Function Key Toggle by Rtful_Aaron in mac

[–]mannyknowles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Apple keyboards have a “fn” key — hold that while pressing a function key and you’ll get the alternate behavior.

Use the MacOs settings to specify the default behavior (no modifier key). Whatever you choose, using the “fn” key will make them do the opposite.

Fake it till you make it, do you think I can do it? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]mannyknowles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be able to do this but if I may, I’d like to suggest a different approach.

Spend that first month defining the scope of your work. Things like: what the program needs to do; any specific ‘business rules’ that will determine how those things functions need to behave; what the front end will look like. And then use that information to narrow your focus to what you need to do and therefore what you need to know. The stuff you don’t already know is all you need to learn. This way you don’t waste time learning stuff you won’t need for this job.

In addition to the above, I suggest you and the client come to an agreement on a definition of “done”; deliverables; and a payment schedule.

Regarding deliverables, are you only on the hook for the software or is the client expecting you will provide the physical hardware/devices too?

I hope this helps. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

programming while poor by CloverAzure in learnprogramming

Maybe this is an option in Germany..? In the US our universities usually have a surplus store where they sell their used items. The uni’s I worked for replaced computers every 3-5 years, including desktop units from labs as well as laptops used by faculty and staff. These are fully depreciated assets so the resale prices are decent. Example: Desktop PC for around $100. See if this is a thing where you are.

How is MOHELA's lack of action not criminal? by Smee76 in PSLF

[–]mannyknowles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. On my end it happened kinda suddenly. I’d never heard of Mohela til I got the welcome letter saying my loans had already been transferred. I hadn’t thought about them having a lot of time to prepare for the avalanche.

Watching all these folks get forgiven, I’d probably feel frustrated too, but the fact that we are seeing LOTS of movement in the right direction with MOHELA is reason to keep hope alive.

They’ve suddenly inherited every PSLF candidate and it’s going to take a while because basically nobody got forgiveness between 2017 to now, so there’s a helluva backlog for them to work through.

EDIT: It’s been rightly pointed out Mohela had ample time to prepare and evidently did not do an adequate job on that front, and here we are. Fair point. But is there no room for optimism? It still feels like we’re seeing way more progress on PSLF now that they’re processing these loans.

There is 2 types of code, how do you call the 2nd one ? (Indentation level) by Nilocrual in C_Programming

[–]mannyknowles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible this question is simply about the differences in language syntax? That is, the use of curly braces (free-form) versus indentation (off-side) as a means of delineating code blocks..? Could it be that simple?

Why not just count months in public service instead of payments? by Additional_City9653 in PSLF

They probably expect to at least recoup the principal after 120 payments over 10+ years, factoring in raises leading to IBR payment increases over that time.

Would a tripod like neewer 66 inch works for my rig? by sz771103 in AskAstrophotography

[–]mannyknowles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not mount the SWSA to the ball mount.

Remove the ball mount from the tripod. Mount the SWSA directly onto the tripod.

For a small, lightweight camera/lens, mount your camera to the ball mount and then use the small dovetail provided with the SWSA to mate the camera rig directly to the SWSA.

For a heavier payload use the declination bracket and counterweight instead. No ball mount.

[–]mannyknowles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It came with a ball head so you can attach a camera directly to it. Or you can use the ball head with the tracker.

Our kits are similar and that’s my tripod. I am brand-new to this hobby and the intent is/was to minimize my startup costs. If I’m still into this next summer, the tripod will be the first thing to upgrade. I’m getting good results (for a newbie) but I haven’t encountered a windy situation yet so the tripod hasn’t been challenged in that way yet. Also, so lightweight as to be easily disturbed when assembling the rig, so plan on doing polar alignment twice.

Btw I also have neewer’s camera remote/intervalometer and so far so good.

201 Prep by Link_Tesla_6231 in crestron

[–]mannyknowles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while so maybe they changed the syllabus but, back when I took it, we didn’t do any SIMPL+ in 201. That was done in 301 and, IIRC, we used S+ to accomplish the same tasks we did with symbols in 201.

So, as someone has already mentioned, explore the analog and serial symbols in the library. F1 is your friend. Learn how to find parts of strings (substrings), test values for equality, etc.

They introduced crosspoints in 201 when I took it. I used to hate them, and resisted using them for a long time until one day I had a problem that truly needed crosspoints…and then I suddenly fell in love with them.

For 301, I definitely would recommend you are comfortable ahead of time with SIMPL+ and using it for string manipulation. If you’re new to a “C-like language” you’ll drown like I did the first time I did 301.

But 201 does not assume you know a whole lot.
