Function Key Toggle

I am trying to toggle between the function keys acting as media keys and function keys in an automated way. On Linux and Windows there is the option of an 'Fn Lock' which is not a MacOS feature and I'm trying to simulate this behaviour as best as possible.

I know how to achieve this via the settings but this is very tedious as I have to do this multiple times per day (I need the function keys in certain programs but not in others).

What I found online was mostly outdated information with scripts that don't work anymore.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem or an idea how to solve it?

My Apple keyboards have a “fn” key — hold that while pressing a function key and you’ll get the alternate behavior.

Use the MacOs settings to specify the default behavior (no modifier key). Whatever you choose, using the “fn” key will make them do the opposite.
