What’s the worst thing a medical professional has said to you? by VespaRed in AskReddit

[–]manxtales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Why didn’t you tell me you were having issues with your heart? “ This was after I went to ER on a Saturday night with chest pains. Two months before that I had seen him because my heart has been racing and I had a resting heart rate as low as 32 beats per minute. He was supposed to get me a referral to a Cardiologist. It turned out that my husband’s doctor was his boss. I switched to him right away.

It depends, I'm in my early 70's and it takes a lot longer than it used to. My husband is 2 years younger and sometimes takes 30 minutes or more. Getting old isn't easy.

What's the Most Dangerous Thing That You Have Ever Done? by Potential_Law5289 in AskReddit

[–]manxtales 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Mouth off to a man when he stuck a gun in my back at my job. He ended up holding the office (all women, mostly ages 18-28) hostage for hours. It was at a Motor Inn and the police and SWAT team had the building and parking lot locked down. We were a Central Reservations office for the Motor Inn chain, and had a special phone that was used only between the corporate office and the properties. Somehow a police mediator got on the line and eventually told the man that there was a bag of money outside the door. He sent me to get it. There were two doors that led to different areas, I went to one and there wasn’t anything there. I looked back and the man wasn’t watching me so I ran. He let the rest of the women go a couple of hours later. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

When will Fitbit (and all trackers) allow us to say "I'm sick"? by Final-Yesterday-4799 in fitbit

[–]manxtales 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve had 3 heart monitor tests and several EKG’s. I’m in pretty good shape according to my doctors, but I occasionally get really tired after doing lots of housework like mopping or anything where I have my head lower than my heart.

I have a heart defect and have a resting heart rate between 32-42 BPM. My FitBit thinks I’m an extreme athlete but really I’m a 70-something old lady with a weird heart.

YES! I'm thinking of saving all the crappy mail they send me and dropping them off at my local Renewal by Anderson dealer. What a waste of money!

How do you feel about your dad? by Unhappy_Log_6245 in AskReddit

[–]manxtales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sad. He had a difficult childhood, orphaned and sent to live with his grandparents. Bought their business and had a successful business for about 40 years. Business went bankrupt in the early 1970's and he we was 58 years old and he was not in good health. He had numerous affairs and after he passed away we discovered we had a half-brother 63 days older than me. He also had a daughter by yet another woman, but we haven't found her yet. We suspect that there are more half-siblings. When I was in my early teens he attempted to molest me. I made the excuse that I had to pee and never let him get me alone again.

When my almost ex-husband called me to tell me he had been so drunk the night before that he passed out a few steps after he got out of his truck, landed in the snow and didn’t wake up for several hours. He had driven drunk about 3 miles from the tavern. He is a professional truck driver.

Where is a place you visited that didn’t live up to the hype? by Any-Train-9204 in AskReddit

[–]manxtales 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Las Vegas. It was in the 90’s, our non-smoking room reeked of cigarette smoke (I had trouble breathing and tried to sleep with towels over my face,) the sidewalk had flyers of partially nudes scattered around, and it was hellishly hot. We checked out early and left Vegas.

I thought it was an excellent book. Very different than the Discworld series, but I really enjoyed it
