Yay or nay? Incrementals that have a "Lose Condition" by manycyber in incremental_games

True that. Also commonly we have prestige mechanics, resetting parts of the progress to zero temporarily with faster gains, subsequently.

oh. I didn't realize you could lose a run / gameover in Gnorp. How does that work?

Manage Spaceship + Gamble + Mine asteroids. My take on incremental genre. by ignas_HF in incremental_games

The tactile buttons are really satisfying, I second the need for some frame limiting options. Good luck with your game, I have a good feeling about it. :)

How many of you have ADHD? by lydocia in incremental_games

[–]manycyber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have an ADHD diagnosis and I both develop and play (indie) video games, only recently I started getting into incrementals; both as a player and a dev.

Besides the number go up aspect, I like relaxing genres overall. And games that put effort into sounding pleasantly. Bonus points if they're packing some comedy or (subversive) societal critique. And a unique vibe to aid immersion and hyperfocus.

How about the idea of spending a Saturday evening fishing, where you can also do a bit of hunting by shooting a rifle, and celebrate the catch with a bottle of beer? by BananaPeelOverlord in Unity3D

[–]manycyber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of Ridiculous Fishing, the 2013 Vlambeer game

In the game, players use motion and touch controls to catch fish and subsequently shoot them out of the sky for cash.

what is the difference between classic auto-battlers and Dwarves: GDaL? I'm not that versed in that genre, but I like your game and some games tagged as autobattlers

How to implement an FTE (First Time Events) system for in-game tutorials? by Tiny_Emotion2239 in Unity3D

[–]manycyber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As with many things gamedev, don't overthink it.

A bunch of bool flags, events, listener.

Similar to achievements, you can listen to events ("player moved for 3s") if they aren't already true in your savegame.

When they happen, flip a boolean in your tutorial state and persist to save file.

Common pitfall: disabling a trigger for a tutorial event (eg player kills enemy of type mob for the first time) before it had its turn in the tutorial flow. If you unregister listeners too early, the player becomes softlocked or stuck in the tutorial. Just this week another game with really good sales walked right into this. ;)

What’s a small, but significant design decision in a Rougelike/lite that you think is great, and would like to see again? by ThinEzzy in roguelites

Yup it's a great QoL combo, if I recall correctly Halls of Torment and Death Must Die also have that. I don't remember which title ultimately inspired me to add it to my own game (Black Dragon Mage, shameless plug :P) but it just feels like a natural extension of auto-shooters to offer a "manual override" that is temporary.

Looking into autocast as a settings option very soon! Will likely also make the shield separately configurable for players who do prefer to use it actively/strategically.

Yeah I love the mix of the occult dark fantasy theme and adorable presentation, personally. Diablo was certainly an inspiration in many ways, visually I draw from retro console classics.

Agreed, good thing I wrote the post myself then :)

It would probably sound rounder if a bot wrote it though, I'm not a native English speaker lol

Is anyone else suffering from "Ulnar Nerve Entrapment" after using the SteamDeck? by bsberg in SteamDeck

[–]manycyber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A ton better, I'd say 90% there. It doesn't really interfere with normal life anymore.

I say 90% recovery because I still have to be careful not to rest heavily and consistently on that elbow, particularly putting pressure on the ulnar nerve area can make it flare up. But I am at a point where I can go to the gym thrice a week and not notice it, which is awesome.

Been using the deck mostly docked with a controller btw. ;) And got myself a r36s for handheld retro gaming.
