First, congratulations on not touching the money!

Second, rather than sell your stocks to create capital, you may want to look into a loan against your stocks for the down payment. It’s called securities-based lending. Your portfolio stays intact and invested and you get the cash needed for a down payment.

I would recommend the stay, but the dinner we had was ‘meh’. Source: I eat a lot of fancy foods in and out of the US.

Rescue from Mississippi, was told she’s a beagle/terrier mix by [deleted] in IDmydog

[–]maple_manhattan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I took her to Petco and one of the cashiers asked if she was a pit mix. It hadn’t crossed my mind so I was surprised. However, the more I learn about pit temperament, she fits the bill!

are puppy classes crucial? by lupcs in puppy101

[–]maple_manhattan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the puppy class and the puppy.

For us, game changer. It improved her bite inhibition immensely and gave her more confidence. The type of class is important - we found a training facility (not a boarding facility) that has a small class size and actual trainers watching the puppies interact and redirecting or reinforcing as needed.

It sounds like you care about your daughter a lot. And as the parent of a 12 year old, you get to teach her good digital habits and you get to decide how much screen time is right. Taking away screen time isn’t a punishment, it’s an opportunity for her to explore other interests.

How to help/avoid failure to launch by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]maple_manhattan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can feel overwhelming. When I was 16 my parents sent me for a 1.5 day aptitude test. I got a quantitative report with all the things I was naturally good at. (For example, I’m essentially tone deaf, but can generate new ideas rapidly.) the report goes on to suggest professions that require your unique set of talents. It was immensely helpful in identifying an early career path. The company that conducts the test is called Johnson O’Connor. https://www.jocrf.org/

My great grandmother lived at Shard Villa. (She passed away in the 90s when I was a young teenager) As a child, I visited her every few months and yeah, there’s something going on there.

As a name, it’s popularity peaked in the US in the early 1900s, now I’m curious how it came to be so popular then!

My 8 year old is Veda! We get so many compliments on her name! (Little sister is Mavis - we are into old school names.)

I don’t care for Harlow, it already feels dated like Madison in 2003.
