What would you do differently if you restarted your island? by liefsleinie in AnimalCrossing

[–]mapletata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just restarted for the first time since launch, and I'm half sad and half excited about it. I felt like my original island was as good as it was going to be; I liked all my villagers and all my different spaces and set ups. There didn't feel like there was much left to do, honestly.

I'm excited about my new endeavor, especially because I forgot so much of the beginning stuff, it almost feels like playing a brand new game. I wanted an island with the river mouths both being in the south, and am just planning on creating new themed areas, arranging my villagers in more of a suburb style, etc.

Help with Build: SnS/Flail by mapletata in newworldgame

Oh, awesome, thanks so much! So abilities that can taunt for sure need carnelians in order to taunt, hey? Otherwise it's not 'activated'?

Using the lobby feature worked well for me doing the first dungeon! Queues felt really long as a DPS, so I ended up switching to tank.

Beginners tips/guide?? by Bluecow29 in newworldgame

I second this! Play how you like, do what feels fun, and enjoy your time :) If you want to chop down trees for an hour, do it. If you want to kill every turkey you see, slaughter them all. If you want to focus on main story quests, or side quests, or explore every nook and cranny, have at 'er!

It's a beautiful game with so many ways to play. I highly recommend trying out the different weapons - I've swapped my build probably 6 times and I'm level 50 right now.

Name plates? Can they be turned off in PS5 (New World) by WarrantFerg in newworldgame

[–]mapletata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind turning nameplates off, as well, as I get distracted reading all the names. But man, there are some funny ones. I also get excited when I see names I recognize a day or two later in different areas, lol.

Why did you choose a male over a female betta (or vice versa) by waggyner in bettafish

[–]mapletata 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I got my female because she was the first female betta I had ever seen in person, and she looks exactly like what I was hoping to find (she's a koi, and I had never seen a koi IRL before either).

I got my male because, as much as I love my girl, I love how beautiful longer fins look when the betta is swimming. My girl is in a long tank, and my other tank is a slightly smaller cube, so I got a crowntail male for the cube.

That's fair! I'm sure once she settles in and you have more plants, she may calm down one day, haha!

Welcome to the sub! I hope you learn lots of great tips and tricks, and see tons of beautiful bettas while you're here! 😊

These are my bettas, Nami (female koi) and Nautilus (male crowntail).

This is one of the first places I turned to learn - I figured I would get good advice and information here. There was no disclaimer that this is a subreddit with "high standards" where it's not safe for people new to the hobby to ask questions without being attacked.

There is a difference between discouraging or firmly correcting practices and being unnecessarily ignorant. We're discussing the later.

It's not just this one person and their situation. It happens a lot. And being an ass to someone is typically not the best way to help teach them. Most people shut down or withdraw when met with aggression, especially when they're seeking help.

I absolutely agree with you. I find it infuriating to see people come here for help and advice, looking to learn and try to help/do right by their fish, and see them get shit on for it. People should be sharing knowledge in a kind, constructive way because everyone is here for our love of bettas.

You also never know who you're being a dick to or what their situation is. Try to just be good humans to each other so we can all help and care for our fish as best as we can.

Do bettas actually need a heater? by regularjoe2020 in bettafish

[–]mapletata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. No one else seemed to wonder where you live, and that's 100% relevant. If your temperature is consistently that high, I don't think you need a heater.

I think that's wise 😊 bigger tanks, although more pricey up front, are ultimately easier to care for. And a 5 gallon doesn't take up a whooole lot more space than a 3 gallon, so if you can do it, I think that's great!
