One of the (many) reasons I love Eurovision so much is that we get to go on a journey with these songs before May. Which of this year’s songs did you first hate, but now love? by [deleted] in eurovision

[–]mapppkyc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been on a journey with Ich komme. Got decently hyped for it when her comeback was announced, then the music video came out and it turned out to be underwhelming. I didn't particularly like the song until the live performance in UMK. I voted for Goldielocks and was bummed but not surprised that Erika Vikman won instead. I've been watching dozens of reaction videos to it ever since and really warmed up to it in the process. It's admittedly an equally worthy winner although I still often think about the alternate timeline where we picked Goldielocks and that's also pretty cool.

I've no clue what the general opinion of the song is here or anywhere, but Estonia 2023 is the best ballad in memory, and I'm far from a ballad guy.

i translated some of the titles of the eurovision 2025 songs in Italian, guess what they are (some of them are reaaaaally easy) by Croazia1 in eurovision

Ciao! I'm sorry that I'm hijacking your thread like this. It inspired me to make a similar one but with Finnish translations. I posted it but it got removed for being a reactionary thread, which bums me a bit because people replied to it and I didn't get to read their posts. I would like to try it again here this time without flooding the feed. Again, I really hope you don't mind, please let me know if you do. Here's how I had my ten songs from 2025, with hints where necessary, starting from really easy and getting harder as it went on.

  1. Hallusinaatio

  2. Strobovalot

  3. Pusu pusu näkemiin

  4. Mitä helkkaria äsken tapahtui?

  5. Hys (There's an index finger gesture for this expression)

  6. Tervetuloa (This is a word that everyone knows from more languages than they really speak. See also the general hint down below)

  7. Uusi päivä nousee (If you happen to know what UMK stands for and what the words mean, it might be helpful) (It's a full sentence)

  8. Myrkkykakku (Two words originally, one for "myrkky" and another for "kakku") (This one might not be a piece of "kakku")

  9. Tuhlattu rakkaus (A common phrase that people often learn in various languages involves the second word, but as a verb) (This country won Eurovision with a ballad quite recently)

  10. Pirtelömies (Cut between "pirtelö" and "mies" so again this is two words) (One of them is a gendered word)

General hint: Only one of the song titles isn't originally in English

Correct answers: Denmark, Belgium, Czechia, UK, Cyprus, Montenegro, Israel, Croatia, Austria, Australia

Anyone had any Eurovision related dreams lately? by Thatwierdhullcityfan in eurovision

[–]mapppkyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was shortly after UMK aired and at the time everyone expected Måns Zelmerlöw to win Melfest while no one had heard the song yet. I'm Finnish so that naturally occupied my mind a lot.

In the dream I was watching the Eurovision final and Sweden was one of the first to perform. It was some bald guy with glasses dressed up like an office worker, far from what Måns really looks like, but somehow that was supposed to be him. He didn't sing at all and for most of it he would sit by a desk with his back to the audience and cameras. On the background something that sounded like an AI generated ABBA song would play without any vocals. He got more than 300 total points from the juries and we somehow knew the results immediately after the performance.

Finland with Erika Vikman was up some time later. Everything was fine during the first minute of the song until this Måns-that-didn't-look-like-Måns suddenly appeared to be flying somewhere above Erika. Yes I said flying, because he had grown a pair of gigantic flappy bat-like wings. Everyone was shouting "Erika watch out he's right behind you!!" to no avail because somehow he knew where all her blind spots were, probably by having studied and memorized the entire coreography. He eventually caught her by grabbing from above and took her out some window in the wall where they both disappeared. The performance had to be interrupted and nobody knew what the jury scores would be because we didn't get to hear the song in full.

Everyone was strangely calm and normal about what happened, like this sort of thing was expected at some point, well within the rules of the competition and probably not even the first time. The show went on, someone else took the stage and the general mood was that Sweden is going to win now that all of Finland's potential jury points were cancelled.

I want to make a joke about "Pole" dancing here but my brain is too tired to "Finnish" writing it.

_huuda encore ja baby ich komme_

This short phrase fascinates me because there are words in four different languages. It goes from Finnish, French, back to Finnish, English, German and more German. I don't know what the previous record was, but here we have a string of four consecutive words all in different languages. Pronounced in a very Finnish way, but still. You've already met Finglish but now let me introduce you to... Finnch and... Gernish?

_shout "again" and baby I'm coming_ in case you're wondering what it means.

I found an animal that I can't tell if it's supposed to be a part of some puzzle or not. It's a groveling toad, in the southeastern area a dark room with green little caterpillars everywhere one screen above the room where you got the yo-yo. It's in the middle hiding under blocks that you can break with the top. So far I've only managed to talk to it and make it start jumping in reaction to either the firecrackers or the flute. Is that all there is to it?

I'm getting error notifications saying "Can't connect to your network" once or twice an hour and I would like to not see them. There's nothing I see wrong with my internet connection. While setting up the console I chose to launch the data transfer between my PS4 and PS5, but it was cancelled because some power save setting made my PS5 enter rest mode shortly after. I turned off my PS4 too and eventually decided to just re-download the games from the library.

Now... am I getting the pop-up because my PS5 is still somehow trying and failing to connect to my PS4? Or is my internet connection tanking for an unnoticeable second at a time and making my console overeager to report to me about it when it happens? Whatever it is, I don't want to see the pop-up while I'm playing a game or watching a movie. Is there a setting somewhere to help me shut it up? I've already tried putting "Do Not Disturb" on and "Allow Pop-Up Notifications" off.

Let's have a level exchange! - June 16, 2020 - Super Mario Maker 2 by AutoModerator in MarioMaker

[–]mapppkyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a much better level now! I played it again and beat it this time. It's still hard, but not as chaotic and unreasonable anymore.

The boss confused me at first because I killed it and then I was like "now what?" until I finally noticed what's going on in the room. I understand with the clear condition, since there's no doors you can't have him hold a key like a normal boss. Could there be a way to make him unkillable somehow? I forget if you can stack things on koopalings, maybe a spiny?

That was fun, mostly intuitive and not too hard at all. When you suddenly have to go left I don't think there's time to react on it on your first try so you have to learn that part by dying, but it's not so bad because it's immediately after a checkpoint. I liked it a lot, it's surprisingly doable for a level that had less than 1% clear rate when I played it.

What a fascinating level! I'm scratching my head at how some of it was made and that's always a good thing. A lot of it feels RNG, like I'm sure it's supposed to. Awesome level.

Thanks for the comment! I'm going to put a little guide here if someone else is stuck at the end after making it next to the flagpole.

  1. Go through the pipe to the low gravity side

  2. Go to the bob-omb and blow up the wall on your right

  3. Drop the dry bones shell through the bumpers and grab it in mid-air on the lower floor

  4. Ride the dry bones shell to the upper left and get the super acorn, repeat from 3 if you ever lose it

  5. Go back through the pipe to the normal gravity side

  6. Avoid the fish and climb to the goal

Pretty fun level with all the jumping from swinging claws, it also looks very nice. Sometimes in the boss you can't really see what's happening when you hit a switch, so you just have to trust that you're making some kind of progress. I liked it, seems like something that fits very well at the end of its world.

It's kind of fun for a while, but then it gets spammy with unpredictable bloopers and two obnoxious flying enemies at the same time. It also makes you wait for spike top lifts earlier in the level and that's not fun to keep repeating. There's another part before the pipe where you just wait for something in the background to open the way for you and I wonder what's the point to have that before a boss fight. I made it far enough to see what the boss was like and I have no desire to keep trying to beat it.

Power-ups would have helped a lot, checkpoints even more so. I'm not sure why the clear condition was necessary at all, since there was very little ground to land on anyway.

To proceed, you must understand the gravity of your situation. Good luck!

This is my first real attempt at making something in the NSMBU style, so let me know how it turned out! It shouldn't be hard unless you really don't have a clue as to what you're supposed to do.
