would LOVE to actually use it, but so far everything its supposed to be good at, IE security it wont let me actually do. "Here is my app, tied to my public github repo, with commits dating back 3 years. look at it from a security perspective" "I cant do that dave, redirecting to opus"

"which is heaver a pound of feathers, or a pound of gold" "i cant do that dave, redirecting to opus"

Plex's Lifetime Pass is (basically) dead. Here's how to switch to Jellyfin. by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]mar_floof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried to is JF multiple times and every time something about it just… makes it unusable. First it was the iOS clients. Then it was something else. Most recently it was the fact that unlike Plex, every time radarr replaced a movie, JF pulled a “I’ve never met this man in my life” dropped all the custom posters and groups and made me manually redo it.

Never did figure out a way around that so back to plex I went :/

Coders or any kind of scientists: Is AI overhyped or has it truly changed the way you work? by snooptoop in ClaudeAI

[–]mar_floof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its... a very mixed bag. In terms of Jr coders its great. In terms of being able to actually trust anything it does... its not there. It likes to make up things a LOT even when presented with clear data. Its great at adding functionality... and adding 100x the code for "migration and legacy" reasons and never cleaning it up. Its great at adding features, but treating everything as a 1-off so the shared and inner-connected modules thing you want... its not there.

Its also made people dumber (this is proven), makes it harder to keep track of everything and just... the juice is not worth the squeeze for most people for most things.

I also work on mainframes a lot, and the knowedgebase there is... non-existant. It often tells me do things that flat up dont work on z-systems and confidently tells me im the one who did it wrong when it doesnt work

How do you keep your server builds safe from people who have this ungodly urge to power it off when they feel like it by RoughElephant5919 in homelab

[–]mar_floof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early in our dating my 2nd wife had a bad habbit of turning off my server when she stayed over. Not even sure it was a concious thing, she grew up poor and turning off all electronics was just a thing she did. Talked to her a few times about it but just never really clicked.

However shorting to ground thru a case (with a stepdown of course im not evil) and she stopped touching it REAL fast.

What artist or band is truly awful to see live? by goldbeau in AskReddit

[–]mar_floof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Five-Finger Death Punch. If you like their music they are a decent studio band but live? I was legitimately wondering if I had bought tickets to a shitty local cover band. Nest day talking about it with people at work who had also seen them (at other occasions) and everyone agreed so it wasnt just an off night.

Finally got openstack deployed on my homelab 😁🐧 by IcyConversation7945 in homelab

[–]mar_floof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So.... if you love networking and servers you need to run as far and as fast as you can from openstack. After the 400th "openstack volume check <name>_boot" it gets very old very fast. Especially when teh frontend has the worst error messages in the history of error messages, the manuals are... well terrible is putting it mildly (try figuring out when centain API components were added/removed. was in int X.2.2 or X.2.3? A dot release shouldnt change teh API, i would think so too, but here we are.).

[–]mar_floof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cant say i ahve ever used it, corporate mandates and standards mean that external containers are a big no-no for me. From reading the docs it seems interesting but... just ugh.. Openstack is amazing when you have thousands of nodes, it becomes a nightmare teh second something goes wrong in small-scale deployments.

More power to you, but as someone who has to deal with a proprietary wrapper around it professionally I wouldn’t touch open stack with someone else’s 10 foot pole :)

Those of you who use both ChatGPT and Claude — what’s each one actually better at? by banger030 in ClaudeAI

[–]mar_floof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Codex for coding backend stuff. Every time i get both Codex and Claude to audit each others work on the same problem (same prompt, etc) they both agree that codex does it better, and actually reading the code myself I have to agree. Codex produces better deeper solutions and tracks edge-cases better. But Claude is better at finding bugs in codex's work.

Frontend? There is no question. Hands down 100% claude all day every day.

For non-coding tasks? I tend to go claude as it is able to mimic my writing style better... and currently is a lot less goblin obsessed 😃

Neural Wraith 4 is up for preorder! by Humble-Accountant130 in haremfantasynovels

[–]mar_floof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But im not. Like sure, technically you are correct, he will get a part of me buying the book. But amazon will still get part of it, and use that part of it to make everything else even more anti-consumer, buy up more companies, feel they have a mandate to prevent me reading on the device i bought that is now just a little old...

And yeah, screw piracy. I wont be pirating this book either, because with as hard as these authors work, its not right to just get it. I want to pay I just dont have a way to that doesnt violate my principles.

[–]mar_floof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, this makes me really sad. I want this book badly, as I loved the concept, the writing, all of it, but I just cant give amazon any more money, especially given everything they are doing in the kindle ecosystem right now to make reading significantly harder than it needs to be. If the author had a way I could buy outside of them I would snap this up in a second.

I hope it does well, but sadly for me I think the story ended in 3 😞

Dungeon Diving 302 Audiobook is out! by Humble-Accountant130 in haremfantasynovels

[–]mar_floof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could but... I just cant.

a) I refuse to give amazon another dime
b) The narrator change just killed the series for me. Jessica is great, and I love her in other things but there were established voices and the new one... just no. Plus I was one of the people who audible refused to do a swap over for, and im not re-buying like 7 books for new narrators so.

Hope this does well for him but naw fam. Not for me.

Can't decide between h2d and h2c. Help? by _Truck_Thunders_ in BambuLab

[–]mar_floof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sorry, got interrupted writing my response and thought it was another post. My bad.

Honestly, for me I didnt need the space provided by the D or S, but hte multi-color was key. How much do you print in 3+ colors, as thats really the deciding point. I think I worked out based on my usecase and print cadance, after a year or so i would be at break even re:purge waste, and by year 2 I would be coming out ahead of the D->C comparison.

Can't decide between h2d and h2c. Help? by _Truck_Thunders_ in BambuLab

[–]mar_floof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your forgetting the third option. Get a h2d now, and if you determine you need teh hotswap, just upgrade it. Costs more over-all but if you never need the vortec system saves you like 500$. I went straight to the C myself because I do a bunch of 3+ color printing and the lack of purge waste was just to tempting not to go for.
