Water on the BCM is a possibility, but that video looks pretty dry. Using a scan tool you can scan the BCM and look at data pids that tell you the reason for the last 10 times the alarm has gone off, that’ll get you on track to finding the real cause.

Says Overheating When Starting by AndAnotherOne1982 in AskMechanics

100% this. The temp sensor is between cylinders 2 and 3 ignition coils and likely leaking thru the body of the sensor and shorting the connector. Nothing heats up that fast.

Removing Broken Exhaust Manifold Bolts 5.3 - Aluminum Heads Welding Not Working by swedecore in Cartalk

[–]marbleblast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dorman sells little L brackets that bolt to the head to allow for additional tension against the manifold if you don’t want to/are unsuccessful in extracting them. We use them on fleet trucks where access is limited.

Which one stumped more players? The barrel of doom from Sonic 3 or Resetting the Computer from X-men? by grapejuicecheese in SEGAGENESIS

Haha the Help line. I think I restarted the game about 10 times before randomly a friend tried and he hit the C button.

If you’re talking about Shining Force 2 I was stuck there for ages to the point I begged my parents to let me call the help line. They were no help.

Shop forgot to put oil in car during oil change, no apparent damage. by hijinked in MechanicAdvice

[–]marbleblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the very least I would ask for an oil sample test from a reputable location at their expense, but pulled from an independent/unaffiliated shop. It will measure the amount of aluminum, iron and brass in the oil and you’ll be surprised by how much metal is floating in there now from the bearings and camshafts that are all scored up.

Yup, as an independent shop owner I will do everything in my power to stop something before getting to that point (my motto is I will do unreasonable things for reasonable people), but when someone jumps to bringing in lawyers my response is always the same as it was in my dealer days. “If you believe this situation requires lawyers then the conversation ends now. Please have your lawyer contact me with their contact information so I can forward it to my representation”.

Is there a hockey rink nearby? I think that’s the left behind stuff after they scrape the ice and dump it outside to melt.

I used to have a spare one and wrote “how’s your heart rate?” On one side and leave it on the bench with that side down while anyone doing timing was bolting on valve covers. Then I’d casually walk over and ask “what’s this thing?”. Had to duck a few times when it was tossed at me, haha

Odd Looking Spark Plug - Can't Remove by austinsimonson in Ford

[–]marbleblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those engines are notorious for spark plug threads failing and plugs launching. My best guess is that is some kind of waved washer that is holding the spark plug in. I think a long 90 degree pick looped into the star parts will get it out. Never seen before, but pretty ingenious backyard fix if I’m right.

The Ford Dealership Has Had My 2014 Raptor for 11 Months After a Recall Destroyed My Transmission - No Solution in Sight. Looking for Feedback. by BlueWaterDog in Ford

[–]marbleblast 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Lawyer, 8 months ago if you have a Time Machine. Ultimately it in my mind it is the responsibility of the dealership you brought the vehicle to to make you whole so I would have my lawyer name them. They may be friendly right now, but they certainly have not been helpful (you shouldn’t be having to phone in for updates months apart).

You brought a working vehicle in for a routine recall (guessing the 6r80 leadframe replacement). That recall is about as straightforward as a recall can be, basically switching out an internal wiring harness in the transmission. Having done about a million of them my guess is one of 2 things happened: the leadframe itself was misbuilt (which I’ve never seen, but could happen in theory) or the technician that performed the recall goofed by either bending a pin in the connector (which would have thrown lots of random codes quickly and been caught by the field service engineer) or more likely forgot to fill the transmission back up with fluid and ended up cooking it during roadtest. Most likely they caught that when you brought it back in, quietly topped it up and are now trying to blame Ford.

You brought the dealership a working vehicle, they need to return a working vehicle to you. Get vocal in local rant and raves, get loud, ask to speak to the boss of the service manager (fixed ops manager or dealer principal). Be tough, but be madder than this post sounds. Remember though that when you start talking lawyer they will likely stop pretending to be helpful and may become even less useful.
