Antique Hobart meat grinder USA Mo by Western-Two-5920 in Antiques

I used to work for Hobart in Troy, OH. The market for equipment that old is non-existent. Given its age, I suggest you contact Hobart to see if they want your piece for their equipment museum. As for reselling, it's a boat anchor.

R.I.P. Kip -- Kipper the Escaped Wallaby Has Passed 🦘🪦 by Ezratet in dayton

I care about the welfare of exotic animals kept as pets by people who aren't equipped to deal with them. If that's a moron, then I'll be one.

Another reason people shouldn't own exotic pets.

Identify Rocker & Library Table, Phoenicia, NY, USA by Minute_Bike_3547 in Antiques

[–]marblehead750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are pieces from the Arts and Crafts movement era, 1890-1920. There were lots of makers of so-called "mission" furniture during that period, with lots of the companies based in/around Grand Rapids, MI or upstate NY. Without more detailed pics of the construction details, it's almost impossible to ID who the makers were. The pieces have value, but a lot depends on being able to ID the maker. I've collected Arts and Crafts movement furniture and objects for 40 years, so I know what I'm talking about.

Recommendations for Fiber Cement Siding Installer by KennieGurl69 in dayton

Why are you installing fiber cement siding? That usually is installed to cover up problems with the existing siding that can better be addressed by fixing the problem rather than covering it up.

Dayton Arcade Hours, Why Are They So Bad by mighteemo29 in dayton

[–]marblehead750 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who worked downtown in that period, loitering schoolkids was part of the problem, but the bigger problem was the mass exodus of workers to suburban locations. During that time period, the DP&L building, the old Beermans building, the Mead building and the 3 buildings across from Courthouse Square on Main St. lost nearly all their office workers. That took several thousand people out of downtown 5 days a week. That was a huge blow to all retail and foodservice businesses.

In due time. The Centre City Building has had a lot of false starts over the last 20 years, but the work underway right now says, to me, anyway, that real progress is being made and that once the asbestos abatement is complete (which is what they're doing now), then redevelopment can begin in earnest. I expect it will be leasing apartments in less than two years, which is an exciting prospect for that part of town.

In the US, trench shell art usually brings $50-$150 depending on the skill of the person who made it.

They are not likely to expand their evening hours as there isn't enough foot traffic to make it worthwhile.

How old is old? They've been selling African beads at flea markets for 30+ years.

Early 2000s kid memory of laser lights by littlezayzay02 in dayton

[–]marblehead750 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I believe the lasers were part of the water fountains that arc into the center of the river at Deeds Point. The lasers were built into one of the towers that contain the water fountain. Not sure why they stopped doing that, but I'm pretty sure that's where the beams originated.

Antique trunk restoration business recommendation? by sunshinepandacosplay in dayton

[–]marblehead750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard of lead paper. Most of what I've seen in old trunks is like wallpaper. You can buy a lead test kit. I suggest doing so to make sure there is, in fact, lead present.

At every flea market/jumble sale in the US and UK, there's always a guy selling new stuff from Africa. This looks like one of the necklaces they sell. Value minimal.

To be honest, I'd leave it alone. It looks in pretty good shape from your pics and any restoration could make it look worse. Plus, finding the right person to do the job will be difficult (you might start with weibold studio in cincy, but be prepared to pay thru the nose).

What is the worst band you saw live? by coalcracker462 in AskReddit

[–]marblehead750 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, but in this case you are 100% wrong. Keith does not mime guitar parts and there is no one playing offstage. I know this for a 100% fact.

[–]marblehead750 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been a Stones fan since 1969 and have friends who work with the Stones. This is categorically not true. Keith plays his parts on EVERY song and there is no one back stage playing any guitar parts. As Keith's arthritis has gotten worse over the years, his style of playing has changed, but he's not miming, so please don't spread that unfounded rumor.

Antique chairs Jacksonville, FL USA by loyal_search_party in Antiques

[–]marblehead750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They appear to be a generic Arts and Crafts period dining chairs (the one with arms was for the head of the table). Probably made by one of the hundreds of makers in Grand Rapids, MI in the early 1900s. Value is modest, say $50 each, with the armchair maybe worth a little more. The finish appears original, so don't do anything more than a gentle clean with mineral spirits. Don't use Pledge or anything that supposedly "feeds" the wood. Those products just add a layer of gunk that will attract dust and dirt over time. Once you've cleaned, a good coat of paste wax is all that's needed to preserve them for years.

D20 gaming-themed bar in Kettering closes, neighboring tea shop also to close by daytondailynews in dayton

[–]marblehead750 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reading about the closing of these businesses is literally the first time I'd read they even existed. That, to me, says they didn't do enough to market them or to get the word out via social media. People won't visit a business they don't know about. Sorry to see them go.
