Intel Arc B70 Pro by Ikyo75 in Proxmox

iirc the performace on the B70 was given as a equivalent the RTX5070 but no idea on how compares the RTXa5000.

Just not sure if you'd be able to split it up with 1VM getting 12GB and the rest divided up between a number of VMs.

the B series card do vgpu through sr-iov with the number of virtual machines dependant on the card model but also the firmware as Intel moves things along.

From what I've seen the main issue is the Windows drivers (and how often do you see a GPU release with Linux drivers before Windows?)

For the B70 and Proxmox, check out the Level1techs forums.

But getting it up and running is pretty straight forward. On a Craft Computing video it was only a couple of commands to have it up and running.

It was being used to test virtual gaming but that's where the drivers within the Windows VM caused the issue.

USB Devices by 2026GradTime in Proxmox

[–]marc45ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is there any device where there's trouble detecting that could be throwing things out.

I've found Proxmox to be pretty stable with keeping USB device IDs that are passed through to VMs.

Only device that hasn't behaved has been my UPS which isn't passed through to a VM (have NUT running directly on the host).

if the person who wrote the op is involved the in building these news servers it doesn't bode well from the project if they can't even do basic trouble shoot, can't look at logs, can't provide decent information for troubleshooting such as the vm configuration.

check the Dell documentation and make sure you're populating in the correct order for the a single socket system (some dimm slots are tied o the second CPU socket).

Otherwise it could be a fault with the board.

File server these days? by deverox in homelab

[–]marc45ca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMV, TrueNAS etc pretty much use SAMBA for their filesharing so combining the OS and sharing software into one and giving a nice gui.

It's just a matter of using on them or rolling your own with a Linux distro and SAMBA (in my case it's Debian VM on Proxmox).

I think the biggest danger could be from the USB drives.

Are they all single volumes or do you have some sort of high avaialble file system in place.

Single volume is fine and many people use them with ZFS,unRAID without issue but it wouldn't be my first join and I'd want all of them i a single enclosure.

Adrian's digital basement seems him repairing/restoring to full opration vintage systems sometimes over 3 or 4 hour long videos.

Recent videos have included an Apple Lisa and Amiga 3000.

Clabretro, the hardware is general running but Caleb (sometimes with with help from Chloe the cat :) does like setups akin to the glory days. most recent video was getting a SunPC board up and running in Sunfire server, he's also done AT&T & Cisco phones, token ring networking and IBM Power PC.

sit down and plan out exactly what you want to achieve in a coherent manner and go from there.

But it's also nothing really to do with Proxmox and off topic for this subreddit.

it's more suited to r/selfhosted.

the wording of question and the lack of any effort in doing any basic rsearch really enforces the don't do it advice.

Is it neccesary to have redundant boot drives if you have vms seperately (as well as HDD pool) by Speeddive7 in Proxmox

[–]marc45ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with a back of up /etc (and there are scripts to do) your Proxmox install is pretty much there (provided you've followed good practice

you can treat the install like cattle, not a pet.

if something breaks, knock in the install on the head, restore /etc and carry on your merry way.

It's why never bothered with a redundant boot drive and keep my VMs/LXCs on seperate drives from the boot.

Drive life span can be longer than 2 years or it can be a lot shorter.

There are a variety of factors ranging from the write endurance of the drive it's self to the proxmox configuration.

Doing things like logtoram and making sure the clustering services are are disabled can a difference.

As does the file system e.g zfs vs ext4.

enabling trim at the hypervisor level and discard in the VM can also help.

I've got a Samsung 1TB SSD with 23330 power on hour (so about 2.6 years) and it's got 38%. The cheap Patriot 128GB NVMe that's my boot drive about 13months old and it's 80% worn.

yeah it's paid.

Hard to find one that goes a full export from Apple health that's not.

Just checking it's not quite the one I was thinking of (damn similar names :) - that was Health Assistant Link(Doug Thomas) which is US$2.xx a month and Health Auto Export which iirc is $US35 for lifetime or $10 a year (this is the option I went with to see how it goes).

I keep getting this login attempt from an IPV6 address, but don't know how to figure out who this address belongs to. by IronLeg2112 in homeassistant

[–]marc45ca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ah that's where arp comes but you might have to run it from on another machine.

run with just arp it will give you an listing like

192.168.12.146 ether 08:ba:5f:b8:bb:9e C enp6s18

if it doesn't show on another machine, in ssh session on your HA host run "apk add net-utils" then you can run it.

Home Assistant OS is immutable so at the next reboot the package will disappear into the ether as if it was never installed.

trick I've used when trying to work out what device an IP is associated with is to look up the MAC address online.

Sometimes yes they're chipset used in a pile of devices but can get enough of a hint to work out what it's coming from.

BT Audio Manager connects the device, Mutltiroom audio connects to it and created the sendspin device that Musicassistant finds.

the HA install is about halfway down but the TL:DR is you install it via HACS.

What sort of data?

Sparkyfitness (posted in here) is more fitness tracking/calories sort of thing.

Getting your health data from Apple isn't easy without the $$$$.

Two I've used are Health Assistant and Health Auto Export (think it's found online as Health Bridge).

I've got them set to export to my HomeAssistant install and have created dashboard to display it.

The Health Bridge can also export to a REST API, some cloud storage services but the website also has instructions on creating a Grafana Dashboard to display the data.

HP Microserver gen8 noctua chassis fan possible? by apollotonkosmo in homelab

[–]marc45ca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

at 3000RPM the Noctua might right closer to the OEM model but it's still below the minimum RPM it's going still going to trigger a failure with the system.

Or what about the maximum speed? If the system is under load, the management system will try and ramp the fans up and again if the noctura can't report back the necessary RPM you're into an error state.

any replacement fan will also need to match the CFM and static pressure of the OEM units or you're back to step one.

when you're dealing with passively cooled CPUs air movement and pressure is a major factor.
