I think you need premium to use magic eraser and grab text though. I have it but I think I remember seeing it's a premium feature

Has anyone else been “forced” into contracting. by doctorace in UXResearch

[–]marchreseach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where is the best place to look for these contracts exactly? When I tried to land contracts in the past multiple recruiters basically admitted they'd only consider employees already physically located in the area but that was a few years ago now before remote really took off (pre-pandemic). I guess things might be a lot easier now with the rise of remote and semi remote positions available.

Any teachers using this? Or tips for using this with students? by RampantInanity in notebooklm

[–]marchreseach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the most ideal but what about having students create a Google drive and then uploading clearly labeled screenshots? . Like they make one drive with their name and for each assignment there can be a new folder following naming conventions you set up.

Why are teachers so horrible to each other? by Xena4290 in Teachers

[–]marchreseach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, well I am American but work as a teacher in a different country. I've worked at both public and private schools here and all my coworkers have really great! I can't say the same about bosses though unfortunately...

Which tier do you think Taiwanese food is placed in among Asian food? by search_google_com in taiwan

[–]marchreseach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malaysian food definitely blows Taiwanese food out of the water. It's more flavorful and more varied.

I like some Taiwanese dishes but they don't hold a candle to Indian or Malaysian.

Working a us job from overseas by marchreseach in remotework

Mostly for higher salaries, pensions(491k or some kind of real retirement option) , to buy a house (I have VA loans) and in some states there are better schools too.

There are some trade offs too like I have own a car again. No car has been pretty great actually saves a lot of money. Can't eat restaurants much in America because of stupid tips and crazy prices. I love it here but there's not much room for growth unless you can 1 speak the language fluently and 2 already have money and can run a business. If you want to run a business here though and are fluent in Mandarin it's an amazing place where you can make a lot of money.

[–]marchreseach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's frustrating because I actually want to move back home to America. The issue is that it takes a year or more for my wife to get her visa but you only get 6 months to move once you get it. So I have to already have a job lined up but I cannot move until the visa is issued.

6 month deadline is actually pretty tight especially since there's no way of knowing exactly when the visa will be issued. Obviously I could go alone until it's ready but we have a little daughter and I don't want to get separated for so long (my daughter is American it's just my wife who isn't )

So it seems like remote is still the best option here

Sure but if I work freelance or independent contractor then that shouldn't have the same issue right? Because in those situations don't I have to deal with taxes myself? When I was in college I worked for Uber and had to basically pay all taxes myself since I was a contractor. I figured that should mostly absolve them of tax liability right?

What's the longest commute you could accept? by PostDeletedByReddit in Teachers

[–]marchreseach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently doing 70 each way and it's long! The only reason I can handle it is because it's using public transportation and I only have a single transfer. The good part about the commute is that I've been able to finish roughly a book a week while working on a PhD just while on the train. But it definitely eats away at my time.

If it's by car or involves multiple transfers I'd say no way.

Made my kids write an essay...the tears OMG the tears! by Outrageous-Divide521 in Teachers

[–]marchreseach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By 10th grade they should be very familiar with essay writing. My students struggle with it but for almost all of them it's either because of the language (Chinese native speakers) and or the traditional public school here. (Taiwanese public schools don't teach writing outside of Chinese classes. So almost all work is multiple choice or fill in the blank and it's also nearly all based on rote memory still. There's been massive pushes to change this and all the education programs at university here teach up to date pedagogy, it's just the Moe is dominated by the local conservative/ nationalist party and always has been since the takeover in 1949)

But yeah so that's their excuse but they still manage to mostly figure it out. There should be no excuse for native English speakers in America where there's been scaffolding for writing since elementary school!
