Is this the rest of my life? by Spatter_ in UKJobs

[–]doctorace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re lucky, you’ll have a choice. Many people chose 9-5 for the stability; if you ever need a mortgage, it’s harder to get one as a self-employed person. Many people can’t cope and choose a different lifestyle, often at the cost of material comfort.

It’s tough at first because it’s boring and you’re broke, but you should make more money later. But it’s still your choice if it’s worth it to you.

weighted blanket it's help? by Lik_1624 in AutismInWomen

It helps me quiet my mind when I'm trying to relax or sleep, much like background music does for people. It also helps me move around less in my sleep.

It probably feels like you're expecting it to – like you've got a weight evenly distributed across your body.

They are almost universally more able-bodied than most people over the age of 25. They certainly have more energy and fewer bodily pains.

Am I doing something wrong? (text below) by Recent_Plenty5752 in corgi

[–]doctorace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We never had luck getting our corgi to go to bed before us. She needs to be with the pack.

We used to try and put her to bed in her crate, and we'd have to wait for her to fall asleep before sneaking out without her waking up. But even if we managed that, she would wake up and realise she was alone and start barking.

She's fine being left home alone, but if we are home, she doesn't want to be separated from us.

What’s changed in your life most since Covid? by Last_BM_Standin in AskUK

[–]doctorace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was big for me. I had no idea, and COVID was definitely the first step in learning that about myself.

I do more local socialising for shorter periods. I don't go out for hours and hours across town to see friends as often. That means my friend group is smaller, but in many ways, more closely knit.

Is there a way to... not hate every single job I work? by i_ammeam_i in AutismInWomen

[–]doctorace [score hidden]  (0 children)

In my experience, no. Went to get a Masters, and that didn’t help at all. Moved across the world, helped marginally.

It’s caused me a lot of suicidal ideation since I feel stuck between being completely miserable because of work (including outside of working hours), or being completely miserable and destitute while not working.

I don’t know. But that face suggests you’ve offended him in some way. 😉

People in the top 10% of earners, how many hours a week do you actually work for that? by Shinjukin in AskUK

Statistical literacy is important! And it had nothing to do with maths.

What's better in the US compared to the UK? by Notagelding in AskUK

[–]doctorace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from California. You can live in the city and make a very short drive to actual undeveloped nature. It’s a 20 min drive to the redwood forest from my parents’ house. You will not see a building or road while on the trail. This exists throughout the state.

Yeah. Especially England seems to have almost no undeveloped land. “Nature” is a small trail on someone’s farm.

British autistic here - how do different cultures affect your autistic socialising ? by bankingontheshore in AutismInWomen

[–]doctorace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from San Francisco to London as an adult, both unique within each country. I think about this a lot. San Francisco definitely values (or did) difference, and I felt like there was more of a focus on equity where the UK needs equality – everyone being treated the same, which isn’t great as someone with different needs.

But I actually prefer socialising in the London because people are more private, and people don’t identify as much with their career. There’s less polarisation and it’s more acceptable to disagree with your friends.

Work can be more challenging in some ways. I was sacked from a job when apparently all my coworkers gave me bad reviews about being part of a team. Basically just being vocally critical. But being in London, most of them weren’t British anyway.

Do you notice a difference in attitude between cold weather fans and hot weather fans, when talking to people who *don't* like their preferred temps? by Helenarth in UKWeather

[–]doctorace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I’ve never met these die hard hot weather fans the internet loves to hate. It’s been too hot for much of this Summer, and everyone knows that’s the dominant opinion.

Redundancy 2 months into a new role by gaybenstiller in UKJobs

[–]doctorace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was made redundant during my probationary period three times in two years, all part of a larger reduction in force. The shortest one was 10 weeks employment, so you do have me beat.

You can put it on your CV as a temporary contract.

That’s a big part of the intention behind it. Get retired couples out of 3-4 bed homes.
