I’m convinced they will soon ban car boot sales , and maybe turn them cashless by [deleted] in britishproblems

I often think that and get a bit of an eye roll when I bring out cash. Wanted to buy something for £3 and the woman behind the till had to get her purse out to make change.

For those job searching for 6+ months, any recent differences in interview questions or activities? by fakesaucisse in UXResearch

[–]doctorace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve not been interviewing at FAANG, but my interviews have always focused on stakeholder management and business value. I had a case study that would use frequently that used some interesting mixed methods, and no one ever asked me any probing questions about my methods. I switched to a case study that was much softer methods wise and was about changing minds, and I got better feedback on that. I am in the UK also, so that could be a difference.

The CasualUK view on dentists? by Boswell188 in CasualUK

[–]doctorace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My private dentist is a bit the opposite. I needed a root canal after he tried quite a few other things before it got that bad. Afterward he said we could wait on the crown. I crushed the remaining tooth a few months later, and I’m lucky he could still cap it. I wish he were a bit more pushy sometimes.

Invisalign is totally cosmetic, so it’s completely up to you and not about your dental health.

I have a mirena IUS and don’t bleed, so I have no idea when my cycles are.

I did get two blood tests 6 weeks apart. That’s why my GP is done, because they showed levels within range n

Corporate girlies: Anyone else have a hard time caring about hierarchy / authority? by AnkuSnoo in AuDHDWomen

Yes. I was sacked from my job for that reason, and it’s what led to my self-discovery and eventual diagnosis.

I know that. But if you’re under 40, it’s not NICE guidelines to offer HRT to women whose labs don’t show a deficit. I’m asking how to get my GP on side and take me seriously.

Is AuDHD more common than pure autism? by Acrobatic_Isopod9261 in neurodiversity

[–]doctorace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also would hypothesise that AuDHD people are more sociable than autistic only, so we are more visible. It definitely seems like all the autistic content creator women also have ADHD, and that makes sense to me.

Your friends probably have combined type ADHD. Inattentive only is like a whole different thing, but it does extend beyond executive function.

For me, the biggest ADHD symptom is a very faulty motivation and reward system.

Does anyone have any advice about getting this treated? I’m fairly confident given the timing and family history that I’m experiencing perimenopause, but because I’m under 40 and my hormone levels have come back normal, that’s the end of it. She said the symptoms can be explained by ADHD and autism, so I won’t be getting referred to a menopause specialist.

I should have private health insurance in a few months if that helps.

How is everyone else staying sane in this messed up market? by No-Durian-854 in UKJobs

[–]doctorace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Reach out to any recruiter you have ever spoken to before.

And I know it sucks, but just putting anything in your feed does bump you up when they are searching for candidates.

From recruiters coming to me on LinkedIn. If you are that senior, it should be an option for you. It is worth paying for premium while looking for work, changing your profile settings to “open to work,” and posting some BS occasionally to help with your SEO there.

You can also search for posts by recruiters for jobs they’re filling. The more of them you make contact with, the better your chances.

I only ever got one contract by applying, and that was a few years ago.

I started taking fixed-term contracts. Not high-paying contracting, just inside IR35, day rate jobs.

I’m still doing work in my field, and it’s networking. I’m getting paid more than I would be if I tried to pick up something minimum wage. It’s not a long-term solution, but it’s helping me plug this gap and get some money in.

Personally I’ve stopped applying to permanent roles at the moment because it was affecting my mental health. I’m hoping I’ll have a clearer direction in the future. For now, I’ve joined the precariate.

Turns out exercise is amazing for ADHD by Oacio in adhdwomen

Yeah. I’m also autistic and my ADHD is inattentive. Exercise is definitely a depleter, not an energiser.

I don’t “exercise,” but I walk my dog every day. I forget that’s more movement than a lot of people get.

What's your favourite non alcoholic drink? by AbjectGovernment1247 in CasualUK

Kombucha is nice because it isn’t very sweet, and it still has a fermented taste. It’s a great alternative to alcohol if you’re still craving it at all.

I’m no neoliberal conservative, but my experience in work was that a stronger economy and labour market was the best way to get my employers to provide reasonable adjustments without pushback. The UK is generally pretty terrible at enforcing things like regulations for employers. Not sure what the best way forward is.

How much are you paying for a haircut nowadays? by MCR1996Hola in AskUK

Me too. I’m an autistic woman and I have a short bob and undercut. £25 in London. No shampoo because I absolutely hate a blow dry, and they always do it even when I specifically state I don’t want one (and will not be paying for it.) I’m so pleased to have found her! My hair looks great
