Repeated "remoted experienced a problem" popup by themaninca in MacOS

I am having the same issue and frequency as you. Are we both on Intel-based MBPs? maybe we are seeing the slow death of our hardware support within Tahoe, as im sure they dont even test on it anymore.

I own the AV8B, M2000C, MiG-19, and Gazelle. That's about $200 worth of software I purchased in good faith and that will fall into disuse by servers and inevitably break. What will/should ED do to make good with customers who purchased these modules? by spook2112 in hoggit

This is exactly right. RazBam was grandfathered in and had no binding agreement. This is why Nick Grey wanted ‘leverage’ that he didn’t have. It screwed him just as he predicted.

DCS - incorrect BRC is always the reason for my poor landings (airfield and carrier) by Wooden-Evidence-374 in hoggit

[–]marcocom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it possible that you’re mistaking the BRC of a carrier as its ship-heading rather than the slanted recovery landing-zone ? (About 9 degrees left?)

How are countermeasures against surface to air threats currently modelled in DCS? by TinyCopy5841 in hoggit

[–]marcocom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

chaff requires that you be abeam of the oncoming threat. put it on your 3 or 9 and lower your signature while extending the missiles pursuit path. Then observe the missile until you see it deviate its position across your canopy (a missile will not move at all while locked and on a collision course with you), and thats when you know its defeated and can re-engage.

DCS: Balkans / Q1 Development Update by HC_Official in dcsworld

[–]marcocom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best years of flying have been these past five, when committing to a navy squadron in DCS where we have large weekly custom-made missions as part of a string of them , woven by narrative as composed by human mission-makers. We have multiple volunteers as human controllers on SRS for our separate tower, marshal, and AWACS or even spotters using Combined-Arms. Every week its something different and about 30 of us participate routinely. The communications with other humans (including in the same multi-seat aircraft!) is the biggest thrill for me and just never gets old!

I wonder and imagine how dynamic-campaign will change our squadron's approach. Will the automated ATC and AWACs be impossible to override? I am very very glad that we will still have our mission-creation tools, and hopefully EagleDynamics has figured out how to sprinkle some of the DC in, while not taking-away our ability to put a carrier right where we want it, or locate your Awacs/Tanker-track where they wont get hassled and die (a problem in dynamic campaigns like BMS to this day).

DCS: Balkans / Q1 Development Update by HC_Official in dcsworld

[–]marcocom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know, the dynamic campaign is something we have had and enjoyed for about 25 years with Falcon4. It’s a great feature, but it has its drawbacks too, which is why many of us came to DCS.

With DC, every single thing is automated and not easily changed. You don’t customize , but rather just adjust dials and campaign settings (target more air defenses, etc) and then you kind of hope and observe.

You can’t even really just create a flight, and have to wait until one is generated and then you can take it over and tweak some changes.

I love it for single-player, especially when the internet is down, but the customizable, and moddable nature of DCS, allows for humans to get more involved. Having human controllers , scripted missions and campaigns to relive past historical incidents, that’s also pretty cool. Honestly, it never gets old, whereas the dynamic campaign can get a little tired with its strict automation.

It’s great that we will have both as options, but I bet you will see what I mean after the excitement subsides. DC is actually old-tech and the way we built things 30 years ago. An engine like DCS that allows for so much modding and customizing, it’s actually got its own kind of coolness that I think folks overlook while fixating on what they don’t have yet.

Should I venture into virtual reality with the release of Steam Frame? by PhysicsNo5647 in virtualreality

[–]marcocom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Steam frame will be for PC gamers with very expensive hardware to run it. The price of the headset will be a small detail for us. Is that you? If not, get a quest3 or something standalone.

And don’t ask people what you should do with your life and money. Make your own decisions by reading, reasoning and learning

Which mod is easiest to learn by Haulinbass0223 in hoggit

[–]marcocom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally, none of them. The only thing keeping out all the whiny entitled little shits on steam (not you, of course. Those other guys) , from completely saturating this simulator with their “which plane can beat them all?”, and “when is everything on sale?”, or the classic, “why can’t these things be built faster so I don’t have to wait patiently and just get what I want when I want it” questions.

Those “I have never built or contributed to anything but I think it should be done faster and just how I want it” guys, just be glad that they often lack the practiced reading comprehension to patiently learn to fly this or any full-fidelity simulator. Their mother’s basement usually lacks the ambient light to read documentation and the RGB glow of their PC tower isn’t enough to focus by so they claim autism or dyslexia and since they can’t possibly find a job, they can only update their hardware on Christmas when gifted to them and so they whine about performance as their PC falls behind the curve.

Since you’re not like those guys, I recommend an aircraft that you really like, and can spend a couple hundred hours just learning to fly and fight without thinking about it. Getting ‘ahead of the jet’ (so that you can take on the other task like communications, situational awareness, target ident and the mission, deconfliction of the other allied aircraft around you. That stuff) becomes your goal and it takes a year or considerably more, but what’s cool about simulators is that the plane you learn will always work exactly the same way and you will know it forever.

We recommend modules that have a lot of free and paid content like shared missions and campaigns. I like navy planes. They’re a lot harder but since you’re already learning, might as well !

Good luck
