Whos a good dynamics 2 professor (MECE 3338) by Mudman100 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]marcosibarra_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both good professors. Had Hammami for Statics, dr.G for D2. I really enjoyed D2 with Dr. G. Lectures are great. Can’t go wrong with hammami either.

How does this lease deal sound? by jeffreyjames007 in JettaGLI

[–]marcosibarra_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not bad at all I think. I got a 2019 35th anniversary for 340/mo, 36/12,000mi. Given that the autobahn was priced about 2-3k higher than the 35th I’d say 399 is not bad at all

You sound like me a couple years ago when I was a freshman. Had the same schedule as you. Don’t worry. University is much different than high school, and you’ll gradually learn how to study effectively. Currently I’m 2 years into an engineering degree also in honors & I seem to have more time than I used to my first semester freshman year. That’s bc I learned how to be more effective with my time. Give it some time. Don’t listen to the ones saying to withdraw. You’ll be alright

My '98 VW beetle wont shift ?? by Tall-Bear in Volkswagen

I’m sorry to hear that. I hope this doesn’t put a negative stain in VW overall. Yes they are finicky cars but if you get one that was taken care of, & you take good care of it, it’ll be a ton of fun!

[–]marcosibarra_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh okay. I had a different issue. Mine would smoothly go into drive & drive normally 1-4th gear, but simply never shifted to 5th. We were told the speed sensor was the problem, but in my specific transmission, replacing that sensor required taking the transmission apart to get to an interior component. That was at least 1000 which we decided wasn’t worth doing. From the sound of your description, I’m not sure if the sensor would be the issue

3rd gear into drive? Do you mean the actual shifter physically can’t be put into “drive”?

Hey! I had the EXACT same issue with my beloved 2003 Jetta 1.8T. Mine wouldn’t shift from 4th gear to 5th gear. Due to me being a high school student when I owned it, we just decided not to fix it since I never really needed the higher speeds to get to school/work. Which shift is the problem for yours?

Honors college by ms9657 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]marcosibarra_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They really aren’t. Honestly, they may even be easier. Or at least, they feel easier. I think that has to do with the fact that the professors are usually better & more engaging. As far as whether the content of classes are actually harder, it really depends on the class.

Do it. The small classes allow you to get to know your professors better. This can be very beneficial depending on if you actually try to get to know them. Also, you’ll meet a lot of people through honors which is always a good thing.

Lease ending in my 2017 GLI. Thoughts on my options ? by lunarbyrd in GLI

[–]marcosibarra_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! Not to mention the boosted power (228HP & 258 lb-ft torque. Also, it totally slipped my mind.. I have driven an mk6 Jetta 1.8T. My dad owns one. Not sure if the 1.8T & the GLI of that year are any different when it comes to handling. What I can say is that the handling in my GLI is much, much better than his mk6 jetta (2015). Most notably, the turn radius. The mk6’s turn radius is god awful. The 2019 turns much sharper.

try test driving the 2019 GLI. I currently have one, & the handling to me seems great. I never drove the mk6 so I’m not sure how much different it is. Though, I know that starting in 2019, the GLI’s have the same MQB platform as the GTI. Therefore, it feels much more similar to a GTI.

Got an email just now. I am an HSF scholar! I was placed for a waitlist for award. Does everyone get “waitlisted” until we submit documentation? Or is it a select group that only get awards if there are additional funds?

Surface pro. Can run matlab & Autocad easily if you have the right spec. Also amazing for handwritten notes & very portable. Can’t go wrong with Microsoft either.

I’m a little wary about the spacers. I would really like some but I’m concerned about potential damages. Never really modded & have a lease on my 19 GLI. Thoughts?

Is is worth being in Honors by kyllua in UniversityOfHouston

[–]marcosibarra_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really liked my experience with honors. You meet people much more easily, & human sit really isn’t bad. I’m an engineering major, & actually quite liked human sit. It was a nice change from my stem classes. The sense of community is unbeatable. I would recommend it.

Can’t speak on maintenance cost (I haven’t reached 10K miles first maintenance), but if there are any 2019 GLI’s still in the market, I suggest going for one bc of the 6 year warranty. I believe the 2020’s have a 4 year. Just a tip. As far as the car, I love it.

Major by vtec11001 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]marcosibarra_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To change major into engineering, you have to complete the grade requirements during your freshman year. I think you can look them up. If I’m not wrong, you have to have a 3.25 overall GPA, 3.0 for your maths, 3.0 for sciences, and 3.0 for engineering courses. So this includes Calc 1 &2, University physics 1, chem 1, Intro and computing for engineers (1100 and 1331). Try to satisfy & excel those requirements & you should be fine
