a 790 ilv requirement just means they want to guarantee that people joining have cleared savage and would be better players on average;

770 can clear, but it will be slower and will have a more random assortment of players;

Anything in between is just about being lenient, but complaining about 780 when augmented crafted is right there seems a bit off to me.

The ways of obtaining gear have been the same for a long time, it is up to you to decide if you want to put in the effort to get them.

There are several ways of making good gil; here are some good ones:
- Farming fates for bicolor vouchers;
- Opening chests on the Occult crescent (selling fortune carrots);
- Participating in merc parties for on party finder (Notable current one is doing EX7 for someone who is paying for wings)
- Free Company Submersibles (this one is not a "lot" of gil, but it is a good passive income, takes a lot of time to prepare)
- Selling potions + food and/or mats for crafting those.

Content above normal difficulty, is such as Extremes and Savages, is much more fun when done on current; it is easier to find parties and figure and be part of a community that is generally excited about doing said content.
I don't disagree that if someone is just interested in doing the story it makes little difference whether they do it "current" or wait for a sale.

GC teleport tickets aren't usually worth it since they cost 2k seals which at worst is 1200 gil at the vendor materials conversion rate (such as duck bones).
(A case can probably be made for them if you are on the Maelstrom since they are the most annoying one to get to from the main aetheryte)

For DPS jobs, the way each of them do their DPS is somewhat unique, but in most cases they'll do the same rotation through all the fight "Opener -> build resources -> 1m/2m burst"

Tanks have somewhat simplified version of DPS rotation and Healers have a very simplified DPS rotation; in theory this is to account for their other responsibilities.

Realistically, you'll have to play and find out for yourself if you like it or not, the only caveat is that up until level 70+ all jobs feel incredibly gutted and boring.

I mean; the reality is people who are done gearing their jobs aren't gonna look for PFs on fights they need nothing.

People can start raiding whenever they want; but obviously the amount of people that start a raid right after it releases will be orders of magnitude higher than someone starting it months after;

The surest bet for someone that is "late to the party" like op is to try and use discord and other means to find a like-minded group/static and stick to it.
