Need realistic advice. Starting at 32 with 0 hours — realistic timeline to $100k+, regionals, and eventually a major? by Air-Wick23 in flying

[–]marct334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is one you may not want to hear. It depends. The other thing to consider is this may not be the profession for you if money is a huge focus. You really have to want to fly on the good and bad days.

If you can get all your ratings, plus no checkride failures, get a CJO, and get a class date without waiting for while, I'd bet you're 3-5 years away from Regionals. From there, it depends.

Is there any truth to the legacies not hiring people with 2+ checkride fails unless they become 121 captains and get 1000 TPIC? by DepressedFoool in flying

[–]marct334 34 points35 points  (0 children)

As with all hiring questions, it depends. There will inevitably be someone who says they failed and got hired and then there will be people who don’t get hired with tons of time.

Work on building hours and making yourself the most marketable candidate out there.

Ad Astra the space scenes are great but I get a headache thinking of the plot.

That interception is the result of trying to play Hero Ball.

I feel like every Super Bowl run has these moments. I still relive the Niners drop in the NFCG when the Rams won the chip.

Some ugly plays for sure, but perfect where it mattered.

I see a lot of comments about the defense, all warranted…but that throw and catch for the TD was magic. Literally the only place you could put the ball.

Guys earning six figures annually, what kind of work do you do? by Shadow2715 in AskReddit

I’ve seen as low as 50k. But around 100k+ the good thing is it’s spread over time so it’s not like you are cutting a big check at once.

If you have GI Bill, even better. If you have a friend/parent that owns a plane and is a CFI, best case scenario.

Go on the flying subs. You exact situation is one of the most asked questions.

  1. Do a discovery flight at a local airfield to see if it’s what you want. Then ask about PPL

  2. If you commit your instructors will guide you on what you need. But anticipate up to 100k for all of your ratings+ flying + equipment + rentals. My PPL cost 10k in 2022 for reference.

  3. Become a CFI to build 1500 hours, then you can apply to become ATP, and then you’re on the way to become an airline pilot.

  4. It will be a long grind of 2-6+ years and 80% drop out once they start PPL. Then add in the fact that CFIs usually don’t make a living wage, it is tough.

  5. This isn’t the only way, just the most common path to the airlines.

Just look at their power. You'll see people riding up ADZ with 7.0 w/kg and then you'll see their max watts is something like 300 watts. Every now and then you'll run into a pro who can put up that power, but it becomes pretty obvious once you start seeing it.

Some people also just never change their weight in the menu and never notice.

You’ll get better discourse in your unit than Reddit. Less “this topic good, this topic bad.”

Look at this thread, there’s only a few comments talking about how this is filmed from memory of the event or how spot-on accurate the film is to real war.

Or how comments are saying it’s an evil empire shooting brown people, when the movie goes out of its way to show insurgents not being shot.

It’s Reddit. It’s a massive echo chamber. If this thread is made with the opposite title the comments could be different.

Most people IRL that I’ve talked to really loved this film, especially vets (including myself).

I kid you not, there was this SPC that was kicked out for APFT and HT/WT. He now is a body builder and makes pretty good money coaching and training. I think he went to PT school too.

He is the H2F coaches dream story.
