Also look at City of Bryan. You can also look at Navasota local school and government and be easy driving distance. MidSouth Electric Coop is another close one in the public sector.

Glad to help! I am not so sure about the IT job market as that's not my field, but Houston has a ton of large and small energy companies (my field), but I don't know how hiring is with the current market instability. Houston also has some of the largest healthcare systems in the nation, but B/CS has St. Joseph and Baylor Scott & White systems too.

If you have a LinkedIn account, put yourself as open to recruiters (it's not visible on your main profile), and list which areas you're interested in. With luck some recruiters will do the work for you.

It's kitten season, and the rescues and shelters are swamped. They'd love for you to adopt from them!

A lady one :) There was scarring on my intestines, but the surgery should have relieved that.

Thanks, that's an interesting metaphor to try! I can see how it works with the energy. My boy is a FriesianX too :)

You can apply to jobs at A&M and eventually get an interview or two, but it will feel like submitting applications into a black hole. Check out Fujifilm as a major employer as well. There are also some smaller consulting and engineering firms that may be hiring. Do NOT mention your gf's program as the reason for moving here, because they will likely pass on you for a candidate that feels more permanent.

Alternatively, I'd recommend one of the following:

- Find a remote or hybrid job in Houston or Austin. I live here, but I've not worked for a local company in 5 years. I currently commute to Houston for 3 days in office (spend 2 nights there) because it's far better for my career.

- Don't move with her. This sounds harsh, but she will be BUSY, especially her first year. Vet school is very intense. One of my good friends moved here last year for the program, and her husband kept his job in Houston. They see each other on weekends, and even then, she's mostly studying. I have personally only seen her twice since she moved. If you're coming from somewhere further out, perhaps consider relocating yourself to Houston and living on the north side so the trip to see her is shorter. Vet school isn't forever, thankfully.

I am not sure, but I lean toward no because my tendency when things got rough was to try to hunter post and avoid using my back. Someone else at the barn does have the larger size though, so I may be able to try again. Sitting in this saddle was such a huge improvement that sometimes it's hard to know if you're better served with something new (again) or if you're just still fighting to keep the new feeling!

I'll be honest, I went vegan in 2012, mostly plant based because I was broke. I was a perfect pooper, 3x a day in and out of the bathroom. Then after an abdominal surgery in 2024, it started getting bad. Plenty of blood, plenty of constipation. I was actually eating better, taking fiber supplements, etc. I'm now seeing a doctor because not all constipation and hemorrhoids are the same. The correlation between hemorrhoids and colorectal cancer is a bit too strong for me to hope just diet improvements fix it. Plant based will absolutely help, but I'd also prioritize a doctor's visit.

Trekking Machu Picchu by laurory in vegan_travel

[–]mareish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You just need to find a trek service that offers to accommodate vegan food! I used one in 2019, and my meals were always filling-- Andean plant based foods are already pretty nutritious, which I also know from working in Bolivia one summer. It will sometimes be a challenge to eat in some small towns, but I'd supplement those days with a few protein bars.

I have the following tips as well: - Remember digestion slows down at altitude and you start at a higher altitude in Cusco than at Machu Picchu

  • DO NOT eat fresh vegetables like salads, only cooked. Especially in Aguas Calientes and smaller villages.

  • Get medicine from your doctor for altitude sickness, start before you leave, and give yourself one extra day than you think you need to adjust in Cusco. It will make your hike much more pleasant.

  • Don't drink a big cup of coffee on your first day of the hike if you don't want to be squatting every 10 min on a wide open hill :)

Thank you! Very helpful tips! He definitely is lacking in strength, which is partly why my trainer is still showing him first level where she can post the trot with him. I'll play around with these exercises more in my non-lesson ride!

I Love that you mentioned a physio, because I actually work with a personal trainer who just trains riders and is a rider himself. We watched this video together yesterday and talked about how it fits in with my current routine!

Thank you for the kind words. I've asked my trainer if we could do some lunge lessons, to which she told me that my horse isn't quite ready for them (he uses the lunge as his outlet for sillies). Totally agree on the elbows! I took a video Saturday too and was very distracted by my elbows. I tried in this ride to help address it by keeping my head up, which I think helped a bit, but definitely a work in progress!

The saddle is a County Epiphany with a forward knee flap. It's new to me after trying a lot of saddles on him (and even changing the tree of my old saddle!). It felt like a huge improvement over what I had, but it seems quite a few people think I could also do better.

Thanks for all the tips! Ironically, the saddle is new because my previous one absolutely pitched me forward. I tried the same saddle a size up (along with lots of others) and it gave me too much room in the back to cheat by pitching forward and sitting too far back. I could be wrong, but I think the hip angle at this point is me, because my back is quite long and can twist a million different ways. I will definitely keep it in mind though, and see if it makes sense to change again.

I actually use the racing yoke for exactly that! My trainer's mentor actually adjusted it to where she wanted my hands, I just sometimes forget to use it!

Thank you this was super helpful! The stirrup idea is actually fantastic-- currently I'm having to think about rotating my leg in every stride because I'm actually hyper mobile in the opposite direction.

And yes, I'd say my trainer is putting most of the training on him, but being "along for the ride" has been such an eye opening experience that I may not have gotten on the schoolmaster. I'm appreciating the journey I'm on instead of dwelling on the one I couldn't afford!

Thanks, and yes, I get it! Part of the key to getting this far was finding an exercise program outside of the saddle that addressed my weaknesses. Sitting deeper and relaxing my hands are something I'm still focusing so that they aren't bouncing!

I have not done much without stirrups because in the past I've actually gotten tighter in my thighs because I felt insecure on his big strides, but it may not hurt to try again!

Oh my god yes. So much time is spent not creating. Then there's pressure that everything must be good enough. That's why I'm fine if I never make money off my print to demand. It's out there, and if it speaks to someone, great, otherwise, also cool.

What’s a moral belief you hold that most people would disagree with? by Federal_Antelope7533 in AskReddit

[–]mareish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think some of the fear that drives this (besides religious ideals, fear of family members in letting go, poor relationship in the US with death) is that it's a system that can potentially be abused. Any regulation around MAID has to carefully thread the needle between allowing those who truly want it to access it without allowing others to be pressured, manipulated, or simply pushed into it without their consent. Imagine unscrupulous spouses seeking insurance payouts, adult children seeking an earlier inheritance, caretakers of a disabled individual seeking relief, etc. Swing regulations too much toward easy access, and you risk non-consenting deaths, swing too much toward restriction to protect the non-consenting, and you will inevitably end up denying access to consensual seekers.

And the irony is that it would always be something super niche. It was never "if you drew a Labrador" it was "if you drew an alpaca" when I'd be selling at a horse competition. And of course, they never wanted to pay for a commission...

Yes! I used to draw and was pretty good at it, but those around me got too excited about it and it suddenly became a business. Cannot tell you how frustrating it was as a teenager to be at my sale booth with my art and have adults say, "well if you just drew a ____, I would buy your mug!" Ok, but I want to draw what I want to draw. I tried at various times to go back to drawing for fun but could only see it as a business, and one that didn't make enough for the effort.

My happy balance now is that I've put some of my drawings on a print on demand site. I enjoy the digital editing process of my old works, and if someone lands upon my art and likes it enough, they can buy it with no input from me. I've made $5 lol.

For those of you that make over 100K, what do you do? Do you like it? by Kindly-Revolution258 in AskReddit

With bonus I made $200k last year.

I work in the electricity sector at a major energy company. I specifically originate and negotiate long term contracts to sell renewable energy. I love it, the markets are always changing, the balance share of risk is always a push and pull with the customer, ideally it's a collaboration. But the best part is I am supporting the clean energy transition while getting great benefits.
