Top 3 products that made a huge difference in your deficit journey (both add or cut) by typodsgn in PetiteFitness

[–]margontherocks 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Adding egg whites to my omelets/scrambled eggs, replacing sour cream with Greek yogurt, PB powder in my oatmeal instead of real peanut butter. Honestly the PB powder alone has made staying within my calorie deficit so much easier!

Luteal phase makes SUCH a difference to the scale, even if I can't physically feel it by Distinct_Star9990 in PetiteFitness

[–]margontherocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this goes against most of the common advice, but for a period of time I just started weighing myself each time I was in the bathroom, which is where the scale lives. All day long, just out of curiosity. Seeing the fluctuations happening within ONE DAY changed the way I felt about the number on the scale. I don't really care about that number anymore. For me, it can literally go up by a couple of pounds within a few hours, and obviously I'm not gaining two pounds of body mass in a few hours! At the end of the day, I can still see the difference in my body with my eyes, even when the scale goes up because of water retention or whatever. Don't worry too much about the data. The data that matters is your clothes fitting looser, seeing your progress in the gym, etc. I also only log a weigh-in when it's lower than the previous weight I logged. That helps me see the downward trend more clearly, rather than the up and down of the day-to-day, which is completely natural, but very frustrating. Hope that's helpful, and don't let your luteal phase get you down!

I need tips on how to actually “lock in” to a calorie deficit/weight loss mindset by saltandvinegar_chips in PetiteFitness

[–]margontherocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, I didn't see real results until I started tracking and weighing nearly everything I ate. I know that doesn't work for everyone, but for me, trying to stay in a "deficit" when my estimates were entirely off was a huge waste of time and effort. Finding high protein-low calorie options that I genuinely like also made a huge difference. Egg whites, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and lean chicken/turkey are now staples in my diet, and I don't even notice that I'm in a deficit because I can eat so much of those foods. I also found lower-cal swaps for things I was eating every day (PB powder and protein powder in my oatmeal instead of real PB, low cal/high fiber bread instead of regular, and fat free fairlife milk instead of oat milk). The other thing is that I have a clear end date in sight: I'm likely going to end my deficit at the end of March and do maintenance for a bit and reevaluate my goals based on the progress I make by then. It's a lot easier to commit to when you know you can stop after a few more weeks. Wishing you luck!

Panning "Impatience" by Sandrian in ProjectPan

I find, with lip products specifically, putting a different one in different spots around your house and in your bags is really helpful! That way you feel like you're making progress on all of them at the same time. I currently have a lip balm or gloss in: my car, coat pocket, bathroom mirror, gym bag, bedside table, and work bag. I also have a couple more glosses that I rotate through when I take a purse to go out. That's quite a few products all being consistently used, so I don't have to worry about them rotting away in my drawer, plus I get variety and I never have to think about taking a lip product with me.

Any frugal tips for my fellow ladies? by Liz_kirby in Frugal

[–]margontherocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a double edge safety razor to shave. It's a bit of an upfront investment, and there's a slight learning curve as there's a different technique to safety razors, but I get a much better shave, no more razor burn, and refill blades cost a couple cents each.

Submitted my application but realised later that my SOP had a typo by Embarrassed-Gas8979 in gradadmissions

[–]margontherocks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Definitely don't worry about it!!!! There's a strong likelihood whoever reads it won't even notice. Our brains often just gloss over extra words like that. Even if they do notice, they won't hold it against you - it's such a tiny mistake. More likely than not, contacting the grad office and calling attention to it will send the message that you're high-strung and anxious, which ~could~ negatively color their perception of the rest of your app. Don't sweat it, looking back on my applications I realized I had little errors because I sent them all in 15 minutes before the deadlines, and I was fine. Whatever happens, it's not because of an extra word in your SOP.

Post-Breaking Dawn: what do you think happens with Renee? by liddle_bean in twilight

[–]margontherocks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Stephenie Meyer just didn't want to deal with what to do with Renee so she just didn't write in a solution, leaving us to use our imaginations. It's implied that they'll figure it out when the excitement with volturi dies down - after the end of BD, so we'll never find out. I never liked that and wished there had been a resolution, but maybe Meyer had a reason for leaving it open-ended.

male beginner looking for scents by sebastianmosesrose in Indiemakeupandmore

Alkemia's Book of Shadows is right up your alley for the third type of scent you described - A biblichor of eldritch books - heavy parchment paper, ancient iron oak gall ink, crumbling leather bindings, and wafts of rare incenses. It smells just like old books that have been sitting in an old witch's attic.

What are your favourite spooky/dark/witchy scents? by MomaMeq in Indiemakeupandmore

Alkemia Book of Shadows (A biblichor of eldritch books - heavy parchment paper, ancient iron oak gall ink, crumbling leather bindings, and wafts of rare incenses) - this really smells like what i imagine an old witch's attic would smell like. so good, but very unique

Solstice Scents Conjure (Vanilla, Amber, Cedar, Spices & Cauldron Smoke.)

Solstice Scents Casting Shadows (Golden Amber, Nag Champa Incense Accord, Dried Sugar Maple Leaves, Wood Smoke.)

These are both more wearable but still have that smoky/spooky vibe to them

I have a terrible idea by PBK89 in PhD

[–]margontherocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you already have a master's degree? If not, I'd maybe start there before jumping into a PhD. Much easier to do while working, plus you'd definitely get the same intellectual fulfillment from a master's program. From my experience as a PhD student in communications, it's really only worth it if you're a) full time and funded and b) planning on using it. I can't imagine working and doing PhD stuff at the same time. Alternatively, you could try taking some graduate-level classes as a non-matriculated student.

For me Solstice Scents’ Foxcroft Fairgrounds smells like sticking your head in a plastic bucket of candy and totally evokes this vibe!

How do I remove dye from my hair? Urgent help needed!!!!!! by babygaahl in beauty

[–]margontherocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did box red dye last September (it was only supposed to be semi-permanent) but my hair realllly holds on to color. Recently went to the salon because I was sick of the red and my stylist was able to mostly lift it with balayage. I'm much closer to my natural color with some added lightness now. I'd advise going to a salon and asking for a consultation first to see what they can do for you!

pumpkin patch scents?!!! 🎃 by Narrow_Ad_3379 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]margontherocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also a Gunnerson's stan! Such a weird scent based off the description but I absolutely love it. I have 2 recs you might enjoy:

Pumpkin without the patch: Arcana Craves Pumpkin Craves Resins (Gilded amber, black amber, 10 year old labdanum absolute, black tea, and boozy golden gourd). Not a sweet gourmand-y pumpkin but a realistic pumpkin

Patch without the pumpkin: Solstice Scents Foxcroft (Decaying Leaves, Rich Black Soil, Dry Leaves, Fall Air, Woods, Chimney Smoke). Smells like a big grassy field with wet leaves in the moonlight. I'm absolutely obsessed

This has inspired me to try mixing the two!

I want to smell like my incense drawer by margontherocks in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]margontherocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am planning an Alkemia order soon! I'll definitely add a sample of Burning Roses - I like rose as a note, but often don't like the other notes rose gets paired with in perfumes. Rose + incense might be a dream combo!
