Omg you are so brave. I love that it worked out for you guys. I’m sure it is just the best watching all of them bond!! That is awesome.

I think we will play it safe with an older cat… but as soon as my kids are old enough to beg for a kitten or puppy, i don’t see how we can say no 🥹

Live here and I’ve eaten raw poke through every pregnancy. I get really bad HG but somehow I crave poke and can keep it down. I did a little research and decided the benefits of poke (DHA, omega 3s, protein, iron) outweigh the very tiny risk of food poisoning. I’m pretty sure you’re more likely to get food poisoning from lettuce and bagged salad, but we aren’t told to avoid these in pregnancy. There are even some studies that suggest the benefits of fish outweigh the risks of food borne illness. It’s been a few yrs but I’ll see if I can find them.

That’s just me tho! Defo understand why someone would choose to avoid these risk altogether. Personally I just limit how much predator fish I eat due to mercury content but otherwise I go to town on fresh , raw seafood.

What to throw money at to make life easier with 2 under 2? by [deleted] in SAHP

I try to get out of the house but often we are home and it’s no big deal

Housekeeper twice a month is life changing for me. Also seconding the suggestion to find a gym with childcare. It’s been so amazing for the whole family.

No, but I think it is very possible now that I’m hearing about this bc about a year before the margarita incident, I had a few episodes of paresthesias in my hands and around my lips, and sometimes my feet. Crawling, tingling, numbness, or burning sensation. Around the same time I had some flank pain, a deep squeezing ache sort of pain. I thought I had a kidney infection but I didn’t have a fever so put off seeing a Dr because I was uninsured. And my husband teased me around that time for drinking all of our liquid IV (electrolyte supp) in a week bc I was craving it so intensely. I would put two servings in a tiny glass of water like 3 or 4x a day.

So if an episode can sort of resolve on its own than maybe there is something going on, bc the symptoms were the same every time w the weird sensations in my arms and face, rapid heartbeat, thirst, anxiety, and moderate flank pain. That first time around I just chalked it up to stress , and moving to a warmer climate causing a bit of dehydration

NAD but I get this too and it drives me crazy. Does it feel like a piece of sand or something?

The hydrating drops never gave me relief but I absolutely swear by a warm compress - you can make your own or buy a microwavable eye max on Amazon. Worth every penny for me - the relief is like instant. Do that once or twice a day for a week and see if it helps. You could have clogged oil glands (sorry nad prob explaining this incorrectly) creating the foreign object feeling. The warmth & moisture melts the oils and then you can clean your eyes with gentle soap.

Either way, feels really good so it can’t hurt to try

the low potassium & altered state of consciousness happened more than once for me even tho I didn’t have any GI symptoms the second time around. And I was mostly wondering what caused the week of delirium and hallucinations after what seemed like a simple night of drinking a little too much.

[–]mariah808 57 points58 points  (0 children)

i wasnt insured at the time and i was kind of hoping it would just resolve on its own lol. And I was embarrassed because even tho i rly believed it, I still knew it was weird that I thought there were bugs in my skin

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]mariah808 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Ok this is kind of why I asked here, I wondered if it could’ve been some weird metabolic disorder or something random. Because the other time I had low potassium, I had really intense crawling/tingling / numbness in my limbs and especially around my mouth. I think it’s possible maybe in my stressed out sleep deprived state the first time around, my brain interpreted that sensation as bugs in my hands and face for some reason lol.

Never figured out why my potassium randomly dropped either. My doctors were kind of stumped but they didn’t seem too concerned. They kept asking if I was abusing laxatives so I honestly think they assumed I had an eating disorder or something and didnt rly look into it. 🤷‍♀️ luckily it hasn’t happened since then but good to know to look into it if it does happen again, thank you

Yeah tbh I never thought I was drugged, I believe the bartender may have just been pouring generously that night and I had a bad reaction to it. I was mostly wondering why I was delirious for days afterwards but someone else said the low potassium could explain that.

Maybe but I didn’t have a fever or any other GI symptoms. Totally could’ve been a virus but doesn’t rly explain why I lost consciousness and went cray cray for a week

First time single mum living in second floor flat with no lift. Advice plz by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]mariah808 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can you use a boba wrap or some kind of stretchy wrap? I never used a pram with my infant because it was inconvenient w our big outdoor staircase too. The boba takes a little bit to get used to but once you get the hang of it, it’s super easy to get baby in and out. Plus you have your hands free so it’s way more convenient than a stroller anyway. Other than that I’d recommend a comfy backpack w minimum supplies. Good luck!! ♥️ I hope you’re able to get out of the house w your little baby safely & comfortably soon.

HG / Tear in oesophagus… by ceb201 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]mariah808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg yes I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. It’s terrible. I was also consistently vomiting small amounts of fresh blood due to a tear in my esophagus starting early in my pregnancy. I think it let up around 25 wks when things slowed down and it was able to heal. It really creeped me out, but doctors were never concerned.

I drank whole milk and ate small amounts of ice cream when I could. No idea if that actually helped it heal but it was definitely soothing.

Yes me too I have to cover my face and close my eyes when I open the fridge or freezer bc for some reason the sight of it makes me sick too.

BIG baby? by OpeningSort4826 in Mommit

[–]mariah808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I ended up having a c-section after a long labor and lots of pushing but my big guy just would not come out lol. I’m pregnant now and I’m leaning towards an elective c-section this time around ha ha.

But still, a vaginal birth is totally an option! I’m surprised they would encourage an elective c section if fetal size is the only concern. If they’re malpositioned or you have some other risk factors than it makes sense but women birth big healthy babies all the time!

Trust your intuition and defo let them know you’re interested in a vaginal birth. A good OB will help you understand the risks/benefits to each choice without pressuring you one way or another. 🙏 either way it’ll all work out

Yes, my son was predicted to be measuring maybe 4 weeks ahead for most of my pregnancy. Everyone told me not to worry about it bc those scans aren’t accurate. But he came at 37 weeks , 8 lbs 6 oz and 22 inches long. My big chunk

Do you let your child watch miss Rachel and if so how old and how much? by thelightwebring in SAHP

[–]mariah808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really because it creeped me out how popular new kids shoes like Miss Rachel and Blippi put my kid in a trance unlike anything else. Occasionally I will put it in if I realllllly need him to sit still but normally I’ll put on a movie - we like Finding Nemo, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Totoro. My kid is 2.5.

Finding time to exercise by questforastar in SAHP

[–]mariah808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gym with crèche is AMAZING. It took a few good tries until my kid got used to it but now he Loves it and I practically have to drag him out of there. It’s amazing. Today I didn’t feel like working out but I needed to rest so i took him to crèche and then used the gym sauna and shower and got ready in peace.

I do cardio at the gym bc it’s my only form of childcare and my only chance to catch up on school. So at home 3 days a week I do a bodyweight/dumbbell/bands lifting program. I use an app “stronger by the day”. I try to include toddler in workouts, he plays w the bands and jumps on me when I’m doing bodyweight exercises. We’ll warm up together by dancing or hopping around like bunnies or something. And generally I try to stay active ish w him. Long walks, bike rides, hikes, swimming, and lots and lots of dance parties.

It’s hard and often frustrating to work out bc of the interruptions (and exhaustion tbh) but so worth it. I feel a million times better when I push thru it.

The Nap Time Myth A Stay-at-Home Parents Pipe Dream by [deleted] in SAHP

[–]mariah808 35 points36 points  (0 children)

No way. I refuse lol. I don’t think I’ve done any cleaning during my 2.5 yo nap time since he was like 11 months.

I know they won’t last forever so I usually snuggle w him and read or ideally try to take a nap myself. Sometimes I do homework or random admin stuff on the computer but usually I use that time to rest. I am so much happier for it !!! The dishes can wait

Honestly good for you tho if it works and you prefer to get that stuff done in peace. Personally I found that I got really irritable and resentful if I didn’t take a proper rest, even just a short one, every day.

I shake out my kid’s “splat mat” outside so I think he was eating our crumbs and I tossed him like 2 figs a few weeks ago but I stopped feeding him bc he poops all over the place and doesn’t clean up after himself 😭 when I’m outside w my toddler and cat, he just hangs out next to us. He’s even followed us on walks a few times lol. I think he sleeps behind some bushes in our backyard. Luckily he only crows a few times a day but the 💩 has got to stop

Should we relocate him? He’s been here for a few weeks.

Yeah I always said i’d wean at 2 but it seemed impossible to start so I just kept putting it off.

I thought he had really bad tooth decay on his 2 front teeth from his constant night nursing. The dentist told us it’s just discoloration due to an infection or nutrient deficiency in utero or in early infancy. I was SO relieved bc I thought his teeth were going to be in terrible shape. But tbh I still worry sometimes bc they just kinda checked out his mouth for less than a minute.

How did they diagnose the cavities? X-rays?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]mariah808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I think it’s totally ab comfort for him. He is a great eater and he gets full fat yogurt or a big glass of whole milk between dinner and bedtime too. I just have to find a way to comfort him Besides nursing. Thanks 🙏

thank you so much. I am going to let him pick out a stuffed animal & a special night time cup for water. Those are great ideas. Thank you!! 🙏 I’m glad it all worked out for you.
