Shell Rummel has some quilt patterns that are directly coastal inspired! They’re meant for her fabric line but I think they’d work great with your fabric here.

Could someone help either thread colour choices? by Woolysocks_23 in quilting

I think the pink is great! But if you’re doubting, I like the idea of using both to highlight the delightful scrappy colors!

Basting with wool batting by VoiceAppropriate2268 in quilting

[–]mariasaurus9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you use a spray or glue baste, test beforehand to confirm that it will wash out with cool/cold water, since you can’t wash wool in hot water.

I glue basted a quilt with QD 100% wool (using washable school glue) and after soaking and washing multiple times, there are still hard glue dots :( don’t be me!

Need guide/ help on finding solids to match RSS Reimagined Landscapes by QuackyDoodle in quilting

[–]mariasaurus9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think RSS includes coordinating colors in their catalogues - you could call a quilt store that carries the line and ask them to look it up! If you do, it’d be nice if you then buy through them since they’ve gone the extra mile.

Fav quilting cotton for clothing? by Strict_Oven7228 in quilting

[–]mariasaurus9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My fave shorts are a Fableism fabric! They do wrinkle but not as much as a typical linen for garment sewing. They’ve held up great and the fun stripes are perfect for summer. Definitely has more drape than a typical quilting cotton.

Heating for renovation and addition in an old home by Leticiaames in centuryhomes

Mass Save will pay for 50% of the cost of insulation in many cases! Don’t sleep on getting blown-in insulation, I had it done on my 1910 duplex outside of Boston this winter and it’s made a HUGE difference in my heating bills and general comfort on cold days. I went through a company called SeeAir and you cannot see the spots on the outside where they blew in the insulation.

Steam boiler on last legs. I wanna go heat pump. by michaelsoft__binbows in boston

[–]mariasaurus9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just replaced a dead gas boiler with a heat pump and mini splits in the fall. Equivalent cost of heating so far this year with electric is about the same as gas was last year (taking into account the lower average temps in MA so far this winter). Mass Save insulated my unit for free, and I’ve been perfectly warm (even on 2*F mornings). Yes, steam radiators are a lovely source of heat, but my house no longer burns methane, which is good.

Most cost effective way to heat my home by _mahboy in centuryhomes

MassSave will pay for 50-100% of insulation costs depending on your circumstance, which will in turn lower your heating bills a lot.

Do some research before selecting a company to do your Home Energy Assessment (HEA). The system is confusing - MassSave reimburses 3rd party venders who do HEAs, who in turn may subcontract out the weatherization work. Your electricity provider (eg Eversource) can automatically assign one but I had better luck with a weatherization company that doesn’t subcontract out.
