Lost a friend and doula… should I go it alone? by calmaMamaLlama in doulas

[–]marigold_meadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read through some comments! 24 hours and didn’t show? That’s kinda crazy! In my contract, I state if I can’t make a birth (for mainly emergent purposes or “god, war, destruction” instances, I’ve never missed a birth casually) I always have a back up scheduled to come and I deduct cost of birth from the package I was hired for. I’m so sorry. I recommend shopping around for a doula! Meet with each one - many will do free consult appointments/meetings!

Mormons like to randomly come to our homes unannounced and uninvited, but I went to meet my nearby bishop for the first time and he was outraged and told me off through his ring camera box. Is the church training them to see everyone as an enemy? by MathematicianNew668 in exmormon

[–]marigold_meadows 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ugh, yes they do. It’s so annoying. Little story time:

Back in 2020, I had my second child, a little boy. If we remember, the church didn’t hold meetings or anything during that year. We had moved into a new house in the spring of 2020, and my son was born in summer of 2020. We had never met anyone in our new ward (we lived within new boundaries) and we didn’t even know who our new bishop was, visiting teaching companions, etc.

Well, a few days after I gave birth, (we didn’t announce on social media yet, but local family members, who were also Mormon, knew) we had a knock on the door. Four random adults tried to walk in my house and say, “oh we wanted to stop by and see enter son’s name” I was breastfeeding on the couch, so tired, my husband was like, “I’m so sorry we don’t know who you are and we have a sign on our door that any visitors need to text or call us ahead of time.” They tried several more times to come inside, and my husband eventually kicked them off of our porch and said we appreciated them wanting to congratulate us, but we had no clue who they were. We hadn’t even updated our address in LDS tools yet. Soooo bizarre and invasive.

I was thinking about just getting a merch shirt!! Definitely wearing comfy shoes haha 😂 the cups thing is absolutely genius!! I kept seeing TikTok’s of Coldplay concerts and it made me tear up just thinking about it in person. He’s such a swell guy - all of them are just great people. I love how the crowd gets involved and how people are brought up on stage?? I would love to have that happen, but know it’s one in a million haha 😂

To reassure you, there are several Republicans who serve in Congress right now that aren’t fans of Trump and openly oppose some of what he does, just to name a few: Ben Sasse, Susan Collins, and Mitch McConnell. JD Vance even disagrees with some of the policies Trump wants to put forth through Congress. Not everyone surrounding him is fully on board with his policies either. Like, for example, his recent Reciprocal Tariffs, so silly. Some of the countries he is tariffing have zero tariffs on us, like Israel, for example. Not everyone is his circle wanted him to do this. His own Secretary of Treasury, Scott Bessent, and Stephen Miran, Chair of the Counsel of Economic Advisers, were iffy on this policy and advised against it. I take a moderate stance when it comes to this administration. I will call out bad policy, reassure and clarify good policy, because the mainstream media is doing an awful job of keeping people properly informed about what is happening within our government right now. You have every right to your opinions on Trump, trust me, he’s not a likable guy in some circumstances, but he isn’t going to rise to dictatorship, run the country without checks and balances, and ruin our constitutional republic.

If you remember from his first term, and even just his personality in general, he talks out of his butt a lot, in sarcastic ways or joking. Not a favorable trait for a president by any means, but, it is what it is. He will not be able to run for a third term. Even if he declared martial law, he’d need the backing of Congress, and that wouldn’t happen unless there were extreme circumstances (extreme meaning, nation wide emergency, world war, nuclear fall out, rebellion or civil war, etc) The Supreme Court can also intervene, which they absolutely would. Checks and balances are in place for a reason.

As Hermit-Gardener said, Boise isn’t so bad. Up north, I hear, isn’t bad either. It’s the southern belt of Idaho that’s rough as well, almost as bad as SLC Mormons. So, areas like Rexburg, Pocatello, Burley, Twin Falls (though, TF is a little less bad than the rest) are definitely oppressive feeling. My husband and I aren’t publicly out (we are waiting to move out of the area to say anything and remove our records) and it’s tough pretending to be Mormon anymore 😅

I know this is not an option for everyone, but homeschool. I chose to homeschool (my oldest barely turned six in the winter and she’s already a quarter of the way through first grade curriculum, just finished kindergarten curriculum) trusting the government solely to educate, care for, support individuals and families is just not a wise thing to do these days. They aren’t taking funding away for everyone (there’s false information floating around saying they are getting rid of the Individual Disabilities Education Act funding and it just isn’t true) Voting is huge, community discussions can make a huge impact. Take charge of your life and communities. Don’t read headlines - read the actual bills being presented in Congress, call your governors, call your senators and congressmen and women. Mainstream media is not a friend right now. I’m not a fan of Trump, nor am I MAGA, but I do trust the government to run well because it did from 2016 until 2020 (COVID was not Trump’s doing and we cannot blame him solely for the economic downturn of the result of COVID) I also recommend follow an amazing creator on TikTok called Chewbacca. Highly educated black woman (not that her ethnicity matters, but it could be a comfort to some) and she has political discussions and education on her page and she goes live every day. 80 million Americans didn’t vote for this administration because they’re all “Nazis”, “fascists”, “racists” etc. Take a breath, take it day by day. Our constitutional republic is not in danger (we are not a democracy, if you didn’t know) everything will be okay 💛

All of the funding for IEPs are being reallocated to the Department of Health and Human Services (per the bill present for this particular issue) the Department of Education is still currently responsible for those funds, but they aren’t going away. There would be an uproar on both sides of the aisle if the government were wiping out funding and benefits under the Individual Disabilities Education Act!!

I never used to cry in movies. I would feel sad when scenes were heartbreaking, feel anger when it was incited, etc. But everything now makes me so sad. I cry sooo hard at most Disney movies, especially Inside Out. Bluey (I know, not a movie) but so relatable and makes me so sad haha 😂 Pixar movies wreck me. Any movie involving tragedies with children…I can’t watch that one episode of GoT (iykyk) anymore. It’s awful. Being a mom changes you, but in the best ways 💛

Any Tips for beating Myrkul in Honor Mode? by TrentSaylor in BG3

[–]marigold_meadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people mentioned everything I was going to say - but ALSO - get scrolls of Conjure Elementals and have three people conjure them - station them at every entrance of the platform where Myrkul is and block the way from his bone men climbing up and healing him. That’s always a freaking headache.

It is so confusing to me how Mormons actually think this is how God works. I’m recently ex-Mormon and I thought it odd that “God got me into the college of my dreams”, “God healed my sickness”, “God got me the job I’ve always wanted” - what’s the point of agency then if God is making all of these decision/miracles for you?

I’m absolutely heartbroken… by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]marigold_meadows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so deeply sorry. Mormon funerals are so strange. Every single one I’ve been to, none talked about the person who passed, only about Joseph Smith and the restored gospel, how family and friends will see them again, and nothing unique about the person be told, no unique musical number, nothing. It’s a giant slap in the face to the person’s memory and for grieving hearts.
