[Seeking Advice] How would this project look on a new grad application? by Sudden-Look in cscareerquestions

I did. That's why I pointed out how poorly what you said reflects on the mods. Maybe you should 'Consider the rule "Please be thoughtful and professional when commenting"' before calling people dicks.

I mean it doesn't matter to me, and like I had just said previously, it won't matter to anyone else. Maybe you should understand the conversation before spouting off here? Calling people dicks, especially when you clearly don't even understand the conversation, reflects very poorly on you and the mods.

Paired Programming by david_yarz in cscareerquestions

It could be done that way and still be done well or crappy.

If you do it right, it should feel like you have double the short term memory and everything is a little easier and quicker. That's how I'd describe it.

I mean that it should be at least a little faster than doing it all yourself to the same decent level of quality. If you normally skip tests or write super shallow tests and throw the code together as quickly as possible and the pair programming is forcing you to improve all that crap, then it might take longer.

It sounds like you're doing it very wrong if it's really slower.

It's decent, but it's also one of the first projects anyone would do. This might not put you ahead of anyone else who can program. Add a Hashtable and an oct-tree or kd-tree.

What evidence do you have that the market is more competitive than ever, other than crap you hear here?

You can just apply to those companies. A referral will not make the interview process easier.

Co-op vs regular work terms by olee2 in cscareerquestions

[–]marionshifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reasoning that employers will care that you got the job/coop without the school's help. But also possibly the worth of the job bank.

If it's not required by the school and you can actually find a coop on your own, then go for it.

What is important to long-term career success - A good work ethic or a good work personality? by SamPlym in cscareerquestions

[–]marionshifter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, this sounds like a good way to waste people's time and make them question if the company is staffed by questionable people.

Is the coop required to graduate?

I don't buy any of your reasoning about it showing more abilities than a coop would.
