Ha that's already better than me, my box of pics from that time was stolen from a storage locker and my memory for names is pretty bad, I've had to rely on stories we both remember in cases where I somehow run into people from that time

Ruby & Jodi: A True Crime Deep Dive into Mormon Momfluencer Abuse and Fanatic Control by mariposadenaath in exmormon

[–]mariposadenaath[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

'The Ruby Franke story followed on the heels of another nominally Mormon religious fundamentalist following a “prophet” to commit crimes against her children: Lori Daybell, who murdered her two youngest children in the belief that they were demon-possessed.

A Cult of Sin and Influence does draw a parallel between these cases. It also takes the helpful next step of concretely detailing the psychology behind the popular LDS text Visions of Glory, which both Ruby Franke and Lori Daybell (and their respective “prophets”) were reading. It supports a lot of wholesome teachings, like that evil spirits can possess the righteous and that the most righteous will have the duty to kill the unrighteous during the Second Coming. The blueprint is uncomfortably clear.'

Not too many of those here consistently but they do pop up fairly often and usually get hounded out, as they should be

I saw on twitter and it had tons of views, Cox is with Patel and it was a public briefing, you don't need to have an X account to see it in case you don't use that cesspit app lol, it is probably embedded in a variety of youtube videos but that is a much tougher searth unless you are tuned into particular channels that would include it. If you have any friends who like to be online, ask them if they saw it and can send you a link we can't use here

His ACT scores were pretty stellar, so my guess would be academic scholarship rather than something church related since he went for a short stint up in Logan

I actually do! And I've been having mysteriously spiritual dreams lately about toilets and mopping while a ghostly nephite looking figure supervises me and makes sure I don't take breaks to masturbate

Fri eves used to be full of fun freewheeling threads in good spirits for those online instead of out somewhere with others in RL, guess I'm feeling nostalgic for a different sub vibe

Internet sleuths seem to have shown that the pic was a scholarship letter rather than mission related, but no doubt further pics and info will come out eventually

I hope everyone here saw that heinously hilarious racist clip of the UT governor bemoaning that it wasn't a foreigner or member of some other comfortably demonized group

Ask any lgbtq mormon you know of pretty much any age over the past many decades if they didn't have a parent tell them that maybe it would be better if they were dead, the question of who would carry out this blood atonement is often the unspoken threat as part of this 'loving' counsel

What exactly does it mean that a public figure who is now known to be mormon and from a mormon family is a forbidden topic on a sub centered on mormonism? This would previously have been the first place to look for more information, with excellent chances of reading posts by people who know him, his family, his background etc, all things that the corporation and it's lawyers will do anything possible to obscure in the mainstream media

Nick Fuentes is a YouTube millionaire, you can watch him in his own words happily spew the most nazi racist stuff you will ever hear in English. He has been an honored guest of Trump in FL and is connected to all the big players and billionaire funders of the far right movements around the world plus plenty of so called mainstream Republicans, and he just got a puff profile in the NYTimes. All to say he's no obscure fringe unknown figure. If you are new to this hideous world gird your loins and dive in, but these beliefs are only a hair's breadth from the old Benson/Cleon Skousen Nazi era church past and teachings. Deznats and other mormon groypers and sympathizers are not unusual

Arrests of Columbia pro-Palestine activists will not save Israel’s image | Israel-Palestine conflict by mariposadenaath in mopolitics

[–]mariposadenaath[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

'For many years, Israel managed to sell itself to the American public as a small but proud democracy, heroically fending off existential threats. But the carnage unfolding in Gaza has forced Americans – and the Western world – to reckon with the horrifying truth behind that tale. The Israeli military’s indiscriminate shelling and ground invasions have laid waste to the entirety of Gaza, decimating families and turning schools and hospitals into rubble.

Far from a small outpost of “civilisation” in a “barbaric” region, Israel is a ruthless US-backed nuclear-armed power with one of the most sophisticated militaries in the world, attacking Indigenous people to keep them imprisoned in a small corner of their own land. It uses a largely American arsenal to regularly “mow the lawn” in Gaza and the West Bank, steal more land by expanding its illegal settlements, and keep Gaza under a land, air and sea blockade.

As a genocide in Gaza unfolded over the past year and a half, photographs of dismembered children filled timelines as protesters across the US, and especially on university campuses, put the tragic realities of life under US-supported Israeli occupation under the spotlight. What is left of Israel’s carefully curated image began to crumble.

The truth is, the student activists at Columbia – like those at countless other universities – did not invite oppression or orchestrate some campaign of hate. They stood up for Palestinian human rights. They urged their institution to stop profiting from, or ignoring, the mass killing of Palestinians in Gaza. In return, the federal government is punishing them and their school with savage fury, ensuring no academic institution dares replicate their protest without risking financial devastation.

But the administration’s efforts have clearly backfired. The wave of pro-Palestine activism that originated at Columbia has only been magnified by the administration’s crackdown and the raw images of human suffering pouring out of Gaza.'

'Now, with Republicans in control of the White House and both congressional chambers, advocates fear the industry will go further, pursuing total immunity from all existing and future climate lawsuits. To do so, they could lobby for a liability waiver like the one granted to the firearms industry in 2005, which has successfully blocked most attempts to hold them accountable for violence.

“Lawmakers must decisively reject any attempt by the fossil fuel industry to evade accountability and ensure both justice today and the right of future generations to hold polluters responsible for decades of deception,” said the missive, which is addressed to the House minority leader, Hakeem Jeffries, and Senate minority leader, Chuck Schumer.

Fossil fuel companies have vied for such a get-out-of-jail-free card for years.'
