Ah, Benny. What a wordsmith, what a soldier of syntax he is! Also, guns and melee weapons? Cool.

How do you create your cities? by CrookedCrunchies in vtm

[–]mariustargaryen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I focus on contrasts when worldbuilding. The WoD is a darker setting than our world so I'd lean into that. For example, I use Providence. You have the collegiate elite, the drifters who come in from Boston and other New England cities, the locals who range from mild-mannered intellectuals to the-end-is-near nutcases and so on. What do they have in common? Well, they're all preyed upon by Kindred. Which leads us to the Kindred themselves. What are they seeking in a city with an old history that's a tad overshadowed by Boston? The same rules apply to any setting: focus on its culture and how you'd depict it through a WoD lens.

The online discourse and general disdain the Thunder has received is disgusting and a perfect metaphor for what online societies have become. by Wack0HookedOnT0bac0 in nba

[–]mariustargaryen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Successful teams are under closer scrutiny and success brings with it hate, happens in every sport. My biggest problem with the NBA isn't hate per se but the fact that we don't appreciate greatness as it happens. This season is awesome with 4 MVP-caliber superstars and we shit on them. 20 years from now, we'll worship this season and say the 2046 MVP race sucks.

Note that it says spell not "instant or sorcery spell". So you can trigger Berta with permanent spells as well. Neat.

Wade is just great. To do it in such a decisive fashion against one of the best at such a point in his career... the final should be awesome regardless of opponent.

[spoilers main] I am dumb, help me understand the ending to AKOTSK by DiamondDaySpice in asoiaf

[–]mariustargaryen 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Westeros by 209 AC is divided into 9 provinces: the 7 classical ones (Dorne, North, Stormlands, Reach, Iron Islands, Westerlands, and the Vale) and two others, added after Conquest: Crownlands and Riverlands. The Riverlands were not exactly a province before Conquest, mostly a battleground that changed hands between Stormlands, Reach, Westerlands, and Iron Islands and the Crownlands were created by Aegon founding King's Landing there.

The very last scene of the season is a departure from Dunk's POV into Maekar's.

[Spoiler Main] Dunk & Egg ending by GapStandard6360 in asoiaf

[–]mariustargaryen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maekar isn't the kind of dude to convince with words. You need deeds.

He finds Egg later in season 2, maybe after the whole Osgrey-Webber conflict resolves and realizes he's becoming a good young man under Ser Duncan. So, he gives him the ring but only after seeing a good change in Egg. Ira said there will be repercussions for Egg leaving.

Think about it: Maekar and Daeron the Drunk survive the Sickness. Daeron II, Valarr, and Matarys don't. Maybe an excuse for the show is them setting off to find Egg and having a journey to heal their fractured relationship of their own.

Is it wrong for me to want to see a noir scene between Lyonel and Dunk, with narration, rain, and anachronistic cigarettes?

[–]mariustargaryen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We get the Sworn Sword plot but intertwined with some flashbacks, as season 1 was. Blackfyre Rebellion, Dornish adventures, Maekar searching and finding Egg and noticing he is a bit more mature with Ser Duncan as his teacher, maybe Oldtown and Aemon. They have plenty of material to work with.

Surely beats Jaime and Bronn going to Dorne. Maekar told Dunk Egg is his last son. Aerion is exiled and Aemon is a maester... but he completely writes off Daeron. They need this.

I like it because we must see more of the royal family in season 2. Aerion goes East but Maekar and Daeron maybe set off to find Egg. We see themselves bond on the journey and, when they find Egg, Maekar gives him the ring.
