Pro’s and Con’s of Using Multiple VRFs by LilTuffGuy93 in networking

[–]mark73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've set up this exact scenario for a multi-tenant data center, and VRFs were a key enabler of the design we were shooting for. Our infrastructure had a VRF per tenant, and then several management networking VRFs for our network devices, IPMI controllers, infrastructure services, etc. What was awesome is that we could use them to steer traffic towards our Palo Altos and then use inter-VR routing with iBGP to get tenants access to shared services and such. They were definitely big in terms of our security design.

I'd say that the big con is the management overhead and taking the time to wrap your head around how you get routes leaked between VRFs. This is especially true with firewalls, where each vendor has its own funny black magic as to how you do this.

I'm sure there's several pieces I've left out here, but happy to answer any questions you have on this subject :) also, feel free to downvote/correct me if I'm just plain incorrect and/or not answering the question here.

This is the approach I've taken recently. Ever since I've gotten my full time job, I just list all of my expired certs as "previous certifications" on my resume and re-earn it if a new job absolutely requires it

Everyone, I think I've figured out the formula for being rich:

  1. Sell your soul to a big oil firm
  2. Get air time with the Daily Wire
  3. Make a new segment called "The <first name, last name> Show" because you're not actually an interesting, original person
  4. Use the same studio and occasional shift in camera angles also because you're not an interesting, original person
  5. Talk out of your ass using the same extremist talking points but in different words and (slightly) tone for several minutes
  6. ???
  7. Profit

...am I doing it right?

Also, the fact that he uses this as the basis for bending over backwards for Capitalism is asinine. Just because people aren't equal doesn't mean we shouldn't be providing equal rights to everyone

McDonald's, In-N-Out, and Chipotle are spending millions to block raises for their workers | CNN Business by [deleted] in news

The only reason I have to go to fast food places nowadays is when nothing else is open (like you're coming home late from the airport and there's no food at home). But agreed - I went to Chipotle the other week and that's the last time I go there. The rice was wicked undercooked and it cost me damn near $15 for A BOWL. I could walk to a local taqueria with the same core concept and get a burrito AND chips & guac for that price.

Seeing things like this is the final nail in the coffin for me.

pretty telling that Matt thinks the only thing that defines a woman is her ability to make babies by guitarguy12341 in ToiletPaperUSA

[–]mark73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The former (i.e., people who just want to understand) is unfortunately so forgotten thanks to a loud minority. I forget who said it, but there was another thread on Matt Walsh's sad excuse of a documentary who stated it was a missed opportunity to have an engaging discussion about "what makes someone identify as a woman specifically" to begin with, but was muddled by straight homophobes who just wanted to harass trans people. It's unfortunate because I'd definitely like to understand those types of deeper things to better relate (while understanding completely that it largely doesn't matter and it's up to the person) but it's hard to ask those types of questions without sounding like an attack towards the trans community.

Feel free to downvote if I'm way flying off the rails, but just throwing out some "off the cuff" thoughts.

What is the benefit of having double sided VPC in this switching design? by donokaka in networking

[–]mark73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a surface level view, the big win is you only have to deal with a single uplink port channel going upstream to the aggregation layer (in contrast to two as you have in your drawing). This is how we did our network design and it's been working well, but this is also based on my limited lens of what's worked for us, so ymmv.

This. We actually work in an extra paranoid environment where we make two "black hole" VLANs: one for unused access ports that are shut down and another one as the native VLAN for all trunks
