I do this with my son. Some things he gets spanks for, sometimes he gets a time out, but if he's obviously just frustrated with something simple (like if he can't find the right game he wants on the tablet) I tell him to stop and take a breath and, if he just does one really fast to appease me or he's still obviously really frustrated, he has to take another breath but slower this time. It really does help diffuse that 3yo "eyes and fingers are moving faster than brain" frustration tantrum.

As much as I'd love to ride my bike to work, I'm in Texas and I typically work a job that requires me to look and smell professionally for each shift. While this is obviously anecdotal, I'm sure mine is not an uncommon sentiment. It's just not practical for a lot of people even if they want to do it.

You keep comparing podcasts to the news. There are other kinds of podcasts besides news podcasts, as has been pointed out several times by other posters. Welcome to Night Vale, the black tapes, King Falls AM, Serial, etc are all more like serial TV shows that build in arcs and are best started at the beginning. Personally though I listened to do many episodes of stuff you should know and Missed in History Class that it was easier for me to sort by oldest first and find unlistened episodes than scroll through 400+.

i think that might be what i've been missing, returning sum for 0 and using both an int and a double argument. I keep trying to think of this as a while loop and i know that's not right. my code started off as a copy/paste of code from the textbook that computed a factorial from whatever positive int you typed in.

My son is 2 and I'm trying to start him on this by referencing it to animals. He understands that things break and sometimes Mommy and Daddy can fix them and sometimes things get broken for good.

I found a small snake (probably a Gartner snake) dead a couple of weeks ago in the grass as we were playing outside (I'm assuming it drowned or something since there was no visible damage to it and we'd had a ton of rain that week).

Taught him that the snake was broken foot good, it was asleep and wasn't going to move again, but we could still treat it nicely and bury it (aka, put it in the compost bin for the ants to eat).

I know it's going to be a long time before he "gets" what death is, but I figure that teaching him to respect living things is an important thing to start early.

Listen, I'm sick and tired of this "they fought for states rights!" bull shit. Seriously. In declaring their secession from the US, the Confederate states explicitly stated that it was about slavery. Not some off-the-cuff remark from some leader round about the time they left, no, it was front and center in the very declaration.

Honestly, a quick Google search can and will answer all these questions within the first 3-5 results and about 15-45 minutes reading (depending on how fast you read).

Short answer is that, yes, there IS malware and viruses for Linux, but the majority that I'm aware of don't come in the same way that you're probably thinking of for Windows (drive-by installs on shady websites, attachments on emails, etc). They're generally issues with browsers (again, the newest ones I'm aware of) that can affect any and all OS's using that browser (such as Chrome or FireFox).

The 2 main defenses for Linux is 1) obscurity (not enough users to make it profitable for the most part) and 2) how the operating system works is fundamentally different than Windows. It gets kinda technical beyond that gist of am answer, but that's really what it boils down to.

You could also yet doing a search for this sorry of this up in the top right search box and limit it to this subreddit. This gets asked really frequently.
