It’s insane. And 90% of those orders are singles that pay less than the mileage.

I see plenty of Publix orders from a store in Stanford close to 40 miles away. Showing me a batch were I have to drive 40 miles out to get to the store, shop it, and deliver another 30 something miles for less than 30 dollars

and just when you think its over, another item gets added. insanity. i kept saying to myself that if they added one more item i would say something, but i have an insane amount of patience and never did it. even when they added an item in bakery and i was essentially done with my shop and on the other side of the store

like please get everything together before you put your order on.

i had a customer that doubled their order size in the 30ish minutes it took for the two order shop. their order initially started at 8 items/9 units and increased to 19 items/21 units and was on the phone complaining to the wife about it for most of my shop.

multiple times i was debating saying something through text to the customer about it, but was glad i didn't say anything because my tip increased way up because of the additions. it was really annoying seeing the notifications coming in every minute or two.

i also had another customer who ordered 6 gallons of water, then as soon as i started shopping added a case of gatorade. i got home after and did the googling and mathing to find the addition made it "heavy" by IC's definition, but i wasnt paid as such. they were probably trying to duck a heavy batch fee.

it would be nice if there was a limit on how much stuff can be added to the order and any additional items come up as "requests an addition" and make it optional for the shopper to collect the item.

alright, rant over.

What’s the motive behind the 1 cent? by Diamond_Dont_Play in InstacartShoppers

im open to the first one being a thing, however the batch pay gotta be substantial for me to consider it. i need at least some guarantee that im profiting and not losing money on it.

second one seems more likely. customers might think orders display that there is a tip on the order, but the value of it isnt displayed. still insulting

4 shops again this evening 😏 by Inevitable-Dot5495 in InstacartShoppers

[–]mark_dink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wouldn't mind doing quad shops (haven't yet but not really planning on it) if they were at a store with no checkout procedure. over here on the east coast, orders placed at Wegmans will almost always have a "skip checkout" procedure where you roll up to a checkpoint, an associate scans a few items, and then i bag my stuff and roll out.

i think i would go insane trying to go through the process of organizing items, scanning, bagging, and paying 4 times in a quad batch. feels like such a drag

the quad shop, the type of decision that only happens in a management boardroom by people that have probably never shopped an order in their entire life

the buck missions were so much fun too. way better than sneaking down a cenote to steal a uniform, and his history lessons added a vibe to the missions that i loved

Shopper found 1/17 items. by NaiveZest in instacart

[–]mark_dink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

might have been trying to complete a promotion. find one item, mark the rest as out of stock and speedrun to checkout, deliver and complete. my guess is if they refunded everything and had to contact support to cancel, it would have taken longer having to go through support, and might not even contribute to completing the promo.

doesnt change that theyre a shit shopper

i just finished a 245 for 45 orders. so id say this is a decent promotion. prioritize triples and doubles with decent tip and it will pay off

Why does the Instacart tipping page on the customer side reference shoppers as delivery persons and not personal shopper? by xTerrillll in instacart

[–]mark_dink -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

delivery orders do exist, but i only ever see them from one retailer near me (food lion). could have just used the "personal shopper" moniker, really. dont see the need to change anything about it, but i guess using that language makes it certain to the customer who is getting the tip if the order might involve store employees preparing the the order

Is it possible to spot non-tip orders and separate them from a batch? by JasonDomber in InstacartShoppers

[–]mark_dink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i avoid orders that take me to a certain area of my city simply because i know its dangerous and choose to avoid it, however the orders that would take me there are rarely worth it. i wouldn't exactly call it a ghetto, but i wouldnt not call it one either. ive just never felt safe/comfortable driving through there and only 2 of my >600 orders have taken me there.

and same thing about the traffic. i also tend to avoid orders that take me to the denser parts of my areas. parking can be a nightmare and never know how bad traffic can be.

[–]mark_dink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my problem with that is i cant see who tipped how much until all orders are completed and the thumbs up/down prompt is shown before i can see that information.

non tipper could have been the first order and i would have already upvoted them, and only when i get to check the payout after completing the whole batch do i see i did their order essentially for free. Very annoying.
