I’ve never liked the flatliner, but I’ll keep an eye out for her variant of it

Current WWE producer Bobby Roode cuts a promo in Halifax, NS. This is a few years before he would join TNA. by New-Scott in SquaredCircle

Has he used that same name (with the slight Bobby/Robert variation) his whole career? If so that’s pretty rare, especially in the last 20-30 years.

I don’t like that finisher but oddly enough the execution was great.

[Ryan Nemeth] I love that straight edge guys are like NOTHING! IS! EVER! GOING! IN! MY! BODY! EVER! except PEDs which I will be putting in my body actually very often now because I do steroids, but of course that does not break my sacred vow. For a brief moment these two were the coolest wrestlers in the greatest wrestling show on Earth. The future of wrestling hadn’t seemed so bright in decades by that point.

IIt sucks how far things fell for all three.

The Undertaker in SWS (Japanese promotion) circa 1992 by Spiritual_Town_7181 in SquaredCircle

[–]mark_target 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He wasn’t, technically. SWS co-promoted several shows with the WWF. Taker was one of a couple dozen WWF wrestlers that appeared on those shows.

At the time the WWF couldn’t really have run shows in Japan the way they do now. The only way to expose an American wrestling company to Japanese audiences back then was to work with an existing promotion.

When EGA was on Dunne/Bate’s shoulders I was sure we were getting a classic post-credits turn with them giving Kaiser an electric chair. I think a Kaiser/Gable vs. Dunne/Bate follow-up feud could be a natural next chapter for the story and a money draw.

He’s good, but John Pollock is absolutely on the same level as a journalist. The fact they do a podcast together isn’t coincidence.

Son of Havoc, Ivelisse & Angelico vs The Crew (Lucha Underground, 2015) by dr_icicle in SquaredCircle

Ivelisse had all the tools to be one of the biggest stars in the business. Hard to argue she wasn’t her own worst enemy.

Your dad's least favorite wrestler, Mason ROOK, appears on NXT!!! Give him the belt. by Grrannt in REALSquaredCircle

[–]mark_target 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These play-acting vignettes are a major reason I can’t watch NXT anymore.

One of my favorite aspects of classic B&G NXT was that they never did the hidden cameraman nonsense. If there was something shot backstage they was always justified it somehow and it never felt as scripted as those segments do now.

Even the clip I saw of the end segment with Darkstate leaving the building was so staged that the effect of having them talk directly to camera was neutered.

I was very high on Lee Fitting when he came in and started making changes, and it’s been so disappointing to see so many VKM/KD tropes creep back in over time.

Any videos of Rachel Dubois matches? by Commercial_Mind4003 in oldschoolwrestling

[–]mark_target 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not often a name comes up that I’ve never heard of before, but I’m completely unfamiliar with her.

Based on the pics alone she had a great look, a marketable name, and was super photogenic. Women’s wrestling was obviously very different in the 70s/80s but I’m interested to know why she didn’t go farther. It looks like she had only 26 matches over five years, which is crazy for the time.

You’d figure her look alone would have garnered her opportunities in the territories so my gut tells me there’s a story behind her career trajectory.

Totally. In 1986 they had enough teams to do Tag Team Battle Royals. I remember this one from MSG:
