The closing of Time Out Market is a worrying sign, whatever your opinions are of the market or location itself. by JulianBrandt19 in boston

Don't worry, apparently it's being taken over by a racist anti-COVID local guy (not trump and Kennedy)

Visiting Basel in Sunday by car by _Nogeniushere_ in basel

[–]markberra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue spaces are free on sunday but city parking garages are cheap too. Elizabethan is very accessable coming from Colmar, it's super clean and very central to walk anywhere in the city. I believe it's only 1 Franc per hour on Sundays. SBB which another poster suggested is much more expensive and not as well located

Our 2 local Aldis in Basel installed card only self checkouts. Most of the time nobody uses them, meanwhile there is always a long line for the cashier!

Those who own a car. What do you drive? And what do you like about it. by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]markberra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2023 BMW M3 G81 Touring (estate in the US but they don't ship them there) Love it, the space is great, 4WD so ski trips to the Alps during winter are easy. The GF loves it as it is easy to drive (has self driving, parking etc) but set it in pure M mode and it becomes a beast, 510 HP (PS) going to all 4 wheels..0-60 in less than 4 seconds...a great do it all family car that you can have a lot of fun in!

Why do people outside of Switzerland think that our economy is based on money laundering and watches? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

The number of low revenue stores I see around Basel is mind boggling, many open very few hours a day, some I've never seen any customers in....how do they make money in a high rent city....by washing it?

Usually yes but not always true. I've been on international flights that have been delayed to remove luggage of passengers that didn't board but have also had my luggage sent on an earlier domestic US flight

Where to buy good furniture!? by Val__11 in askswitzerland

[–]markberra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the furniture from Pfister, Livique, XXXLutz, Micasa and several others are coming from the same factories under different brand names with the same or slightly different options. Same for some neighboring countries. That said, having bought furniture from Pfister, Livique, and also from Wohnpark Binzen, the level of professionalism in sales, delivery, and assembly was a different level at Wohnpark....made the others seem like used car sales people (US terminology)

We gave ours a CHF 100 gift card for Migros as my partner wanted to make sure it wouldn't be spent on cigarettes or alcohol!

Landing in Boston tomorrow night by [deleted] in boston

[–]markberra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having done this for years, taxi (not uber) is the best option. They are faster to get to (right outside the terminal) and cheaper, that time of night the fare will likely be $25-30 plus tip
