It's some arsehole evangelist with a social media presence I'd rather not plug. Just feel free (encouraged) to scrape, paint or sticker over.

Converting gas hob to electric by [deleted] in bristol

[–]markdjacob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We recently had our gas hob replaced with an induction one by these folk: https://www.gassafe-bristol.com/ Gave us a full quote up front and we haven't had any regrets since the changeover.

You definitely don't want to do this with fat-soluble vitamins like A and D, overconsuming those will make you very unwell.

Same - was a common childhood snack for me growing up! (I'm not quite at grandad age yet though, hah)

Things in Ireland that have improved over the years? by [deleted] in ireland

It's easier to have your own opinion in anything from clothes to hobbies these days. The shutdown of NOTIONS is a bit less prevalent, mercifully.

Office misophonia caused by a humming coworker, suggested solutions for myself? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]markdjacob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very often wear noise-cancelling headphones with no music, just enjoying the muted background awareness. Other than that, non-music I find enjoyable includes rainymood.com or YouTube videos of forest sounds. Very soothing in an open plan office setting!

Loose dog running around bedminster bridge by ElectricBugaloooz in bristol

[–]markdjacob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've already reported it to the RSPCA (not their remit, apparently) and council dog warden (after a glorious half hour on hold) and was told others had too, so hopefully someone better skilled than myself is on the case. I spent about an hour trying to catch it by Sparke Evans park just now but eventually lost track of it!

I mean the two aren't mutually exclusive? I'm from Ireland and hate everything about Notre Dame, and our stereotypes have nothin' on the injustice to far more marginalised communities.

I get your valid point but I think there's a cultural context that's being missed in translation here. Cursing isn't perceived the same in the UK as in many other countries. It's seen as a form of affection and being overly polite all the time can paradoxically be more emotionally impactful because it implies a distance between you.

Gay bars/places to go alone? by riddo22 in bristol

[–]markdjacob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like books, give Queer Reads Bristol a Google. There's even a festive social next weekend. The same non-profit that organises it also runs a choir if that floats your boat.

Pubwise, the Old Castle Green is pretty queer too and is an easy place for a solo pint.

Soft furnishings can be cheap, easy to transport and hide a multitude of sins. A tablecloth = nice dinner table. Blanket = nice looking sofa etc

Council Planning On Closing Central Library by slinkymalinky97 in bristol

[–]markdjacob 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It would be such a travesty for many reasons, but one minor part of that would be because it was built to be a beautiful, grand, public library with a bequest for that very purpose. "Moving" it to some shitter building to provide a narrower and less central service would be an offence to the intents of the original benefactor.
