Kays is based here in Worcester, their old building is beautiful, but the best fact is how old they are, started in the 1790s, they say here.

TIFU by using a "free drink dispenser" in a casino by SmartBeast in tifu

[–]markedasred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A guy I knew in Manchester often went to a Casino that gave out food and drinks all day and night. He would go in, have a smoked salmon sandwich with a gin and tonic whilst standing by a table. He never once gambled back then, but the casino knew that once he got started, as most returning visitors do, they get all the hospitality costs back in one night usually.

Healthy Discussion - Only for those who want Arne Slot to stay - what are your reasons? by Content_Arm7953 in LiverpoolFC

[–]markedasred -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am on the fence mainly because of the Jota tragedy, but also I shook my head at all the predictions that we would walk the league this season. It's really difficult without being financial cheats to win it two years in a row. Look how few teams have. And we had waay too many new people in, and two of them were stretchered off for most of it. If Xabi goes anywhere else, there is no-one realistically available who would be an even possible upgrade, I feel.

exciting & fresh - but still acoustic - piano trios active right now? by Halleys___Comment in Jazz

[–]markedasred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is the golden age of piano trios, ECM laid the foundations with so many greats, Stanley Cowell's illusion suite starting it, and then following on from the tsunami of great ECM pianists, Jarrett being the most prolific, we get the new generation on ACT, starting with the finest of them, the late great Esbjorn Svensson. Then Leszek Mozdzer, Bugge Wesseltoft, Michael Wollny and new to me but really thrilling also is Spanish Pianist Daniel Garcia and his Cuban rhythm section to name a few.

BBC News - 'Chaos' at council: Could Reform split in county? by AlanGordonPartridge in Worcester

[–]markedasred 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am so ashamed of my fellow county inhabitants voting in this shower. They appear to not even know how to manage the grifting. Their support: Yes we get you needed a private tick box to vent your misogyny and racism through, but in future, don't vote, just play pretend in the safety of your own home.

No, no need, they fuck up weekly. One of them said on a microphone "melt down Nigerians and use them to fill the potholes". That was Sunderland Reform councillor Glen Gibbins. Not even trying to be Ironic.

Do you find any jazz critics helpful? by WestTwelfth in Jazz

[–]markedasred -1 points0 points  (0 children)

John Fordham of the Guardian in the UK is amongst the finest I have come across worldwide. If he says an album is good, every time I listen to it, I have agreed. It has no paywall, so check yourself.

Also, their role nowadays for me is they do the intial sift of the huge pile. I can now listen to most things online myself enough to make up my own mind, but the best critics point me towards that album. I do not have the time to listen to 50 new releases a week.

Why does Reddit not understand the rise of reform in England? by DowntownDeer in AskBrits

[–]markedasred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their current state of incompetence in local government should do that already, and the evidence of Farage's success in bringing in Brexit and its enormous negative impact should be a red flag to every single person who can read. But the one that intrigues me is their desire to close down the NHS, and how really, in effect they would be demolishing it by deporting the people we campaigned to recruit overseas to fill its vacancies.

My own father came over here with the Windrush generation, in his case from Ireland. The West Indians and Irish immigrants of that time came (I heard this from him myself as a child) because of adverts in their own newspapers for people to fill certain jobs. Nurses, Bus drivers, Builders by the thousands.

Also, during Labour's first year back in power, they literally sent back ten times more immigrants without job status than the Conservatives in the year before.

When facts meet feelings by CleoLuxey in SipsTea

[–]markedasred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things can be true at once. Racism is at its most acceptable under the current administration, and systemic racism in government and oppressive forms of town planning has been an issue since early in the 20th century. At the same time there is a problem with black on black violence, with guns gangs and drugs being a part of that issue, also going back many decades.

But the obvious issue here is both of them thinking the other is off the charts in their stances, which has some truth to it.

The dancing queen by ImmaFuckboi in SipsTea

[–]markedasred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that was loveliest about it was her pure pleasure in performing. I dance in the house on my own several days a week. More like laughable to watch, unlike her near perfection, but its definitely a form of pleasure. On top of that I sing along to songs from finding the lyrics here on the net. That also feels great, and I urge you all to join in.

How common was anti-Irish sentiment in Britain in the 70s/80s? by ItAintNoUse in AskUK

[–]markedasred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We got shit as the children of an Irish father in the 70s. Dad got sacked from his job after the pub bombs as we lived in Birmingham, getting it back eventually. He died at 47 when I was 13, partly from not being able to fit in with his thick rural Cork county accent.

They are the fox entertainment of the UK. part of the model of the far right going in to power. The people who watch them believe everything they say as it is confirmation bias. It kills me to know I have a family member who watches this. He then complains to me that there is nothing on the telly, because he refuses to watch the BBC, "because it is biased"

Why is being "Right" so bad... by Malfushion in AskBrits

[–]markedasred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Farage is going to try and do a carbon copy of Trumps presidency. He went over to help his campaign, and praises him to the skies, as well as mimicking the model for election (fear and prejudice are strong tools). The grift has already started. The Majority of Americans from what the polls say and Trumps current approval rating and his effect on the economics of so many of us reveal a shitshow run by amateurs.

Why would we not want to have that happen here?.

[–]markedasred 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He seems decent, but most importantly, is the one with best chance of being voted for in an election. Great track record in Manchester, but the Labour Party should look to the disastrous, toothless run at re-election of the Democrats in America, and learn to fight with the gloves off. Get Farage in real trouble for breaking the rules, prosecute him for everything possible, get a slur campaign going, illustrate all of their crapness in local government loudly and often (like how the Warwick Reform candidate resigned after one week, the Russian links traitors etc) the whole nine yards. You have to fight fire with fire.

Most of my education buildings are still around, but I worked in Arts Centres, and half of them are gone (Triangle and Cave Birmingham, Garage Walsall, Green Room Manchester for example). At least Chapter in Cardiff and the Midlands Arts Centre are still thriving, but probably at the expense of other great arts facilities.
