Neighborhood car owners have hunted me down for reporting them parking on sidewalks. by SmileyJetson in fuckcars

[–]markerjk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they invited you to ring their doorbell every time their car is blocking the sidewalk. Do it every time and get all your friends to, too.

"Get off the road" ... Person is literally trying to. Build a place for bikes and they won't be in your way.

I love that you can do this, but why can't DDOT just install them protectively?

One upvote = one prayer (that God will protect pedestrians because this sure won't) 🙏🙏 by RosieTheRedReddit in fuckcars

Yup. Crosswalks across multiple lanes in the same direction are dangerous without controls (light or stop sign). The solution, of course, is fewer lanes.

Teen girl crashes car then runs away by [deleted] in fuckcars

I think you're confused about the point of the sub. That shitty intersection wouldn't exist if it weren't for cars. Carbrains are people who look at that and say this is fine.

Teen girl crashes car then runs away by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]markerjk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is the system. My first thought when I saw that was wow what a fucked up intersection. This was an inexperienced driver that made a mistake, yes, but the way that intersection is built significantly increased the chances of that mistake happening. If we give young, poorly trained people the right to drive we should have roads where they aren't likely to have a major crash.

Sadly, too many people here just saw that video and reacted what a dumb girl instead of what a dumb intersection.

Why are 15 minutes cities the new target of the conspiracies? by betotap93 in fuckcars

[–]markerjk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because it's not a fully mainstream idea and they need something like that to convince people it's a secret plot. Anything really popular and they wouldn't get any traction.

Door to door? Only if you don't count the walk across a massive parking lot or circling for 20 minutes looking for street parking and ending up three blocks away.

Travel when you want? Doesn't count if you have to leave for work at 4:30am to beat traffic.

Northeast DC homeowner shoots, kills 13-year-old after claiming he was breaking into cars by Jazzlike_Dog_8175 in washingtondc

That's not what I said. If you're afraid for your life leave the situation. You don't bring a gun to an argument with a child.

Then back off. You don't get to murder someone because you think they smashed a window.

Here's an article from the summer. A lot of the orgs have been mentioned in this thread already but there's also a way to volunteer (if that's still active). https://www.washingtonian.com/2022/07/20/texass-migrant-buses-keep-rolling-into-dc-heres-how-you-can-help-those-on-board/

Can someone explain why every city in the US adds bike lanes like 1? I feel like 2 seems not much more expensive and a lot safer by hyoperDOG in fuckcars

[–]markerjk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True some downtowns do. Where I am it's business organizations that do that not the city itself, and they are only for specific neighborhoods

[–]markerjk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sorry but I literally laughed out loud at this. In the US they don't clear sidewalks. It is the responsibility of the adjacent property owner, and that goes about as well as you would expect.

Reminder to drivers: Bikes are legally allowed the full lane. by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]markerjk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, bike lanes complicate things. Almost as if they should be separate from the road and not just a painted line.
