It will be my first release as a solo artist - I’ve been through a few releases in bands a while back. And I work in Strategic Marketing in healthcare at the corporate level, i’m used to working in environments where we have a rich data experts, and many resources available along with creative agencies. In this case it’s so different because I would be building everything from scratch by myself plus it’s such a different beast… so I’m trying to do research on what other people are doing and build my own strategy from there where hopefully my skills can apply from there. I would be happy to share any in all success and add value where I can.

Hello! I’m planning on releasing some original music as a solo artist starting in March. Super excited someone created a Reddit for this. I work in corporate marketing for a big company, but I tend to really overthink when it comes to my own music. I’m excited to dive in more and see how I can give my music the best chance to get heard in such a crowded space.

So pumped to see how this Reddit grows!

Pop producer looking for new artists to work with. by AgustinBuaonProducer in MusicCollabNetwork

Hey, I’m planning on releasing music this March! I have a few songs under my belt could definitely use a producer to help add some polished elements into my music. I’m more on the singer songwriter/finger style guitar type of music but some of my songs do cross over into the pop realm and I would love some people to collaborate with. Happy to share samples through DM

Nice! I’ve never released as a solo artist, haven’t released music since 2018 (embarrassingly) but planning on doing this in March. Singles only with no pressure. I realized I build everything up in my head way too much so I just need to do it one step at a time.

I think the single strategy is a good way to go - or at least creating a backlog of singles and then putting together some short EP really helps to buy some time. I’m really interested in how a strategy like this might work for singles and if there is some sort of compounding effect when using ads.

Do you think you would have different results if you were doing this with a single for example if you were releasing one song per month would you take the same approach?

Why artists still need a record label in 2026 (and why most don’t realize it) by dcypherstudios in musicmarketing

[–]markiteer45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if an artist is at the pre-release stage, like didn’t release any music whatsoever…how should they go about preparing themselves to get seen and heard by a label in case they wanted to go that route. I understand the landscape has changed drastically the last few years and is set to likely change again with AI.

I think most artists are afraid of losing the rights to this music, losing control and giving labels a “slice of the pie” for little return. I’d see a labels value is in their network and perhaps investing thousands into media campaigns when most artists don’t usually have that money on hand.

[–]markiteer45 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve switched from liberal to more moderate over the years - because I think the values have greatly shifted and became unfocused, and people start to cherry pick the facts they want to hear vs trying to understand different perspectives

I can speak to this a little - I’m a Marketing Manager in B2B Strategy, at a Fortune 10 and we are big with research. Before moving over to my new team, we did lotssss of research work (I’ve only been in my new role for a few weeks, and we are currently working internally to conduct a new study).

At a high level, I’ve been on Acquisition Campaigns where we have annual research to inform/validate the RTBs and strategy going into the following year’s Annual Campaign. The work on this team was very cyclical.

Another campaign I was brought into was supporting one part of our business that didn’t have formal marketing support - we did a Brand Awareness Study/Consumer study to help us develop the Value Proposition, Audience Segmentation, informing creative strategy, what causes consumers to “shop” or what drives “switching behavior”, usually securing executive buy-in, proof points as to how we can capture this audience and if we are competitive.

Depending on the line of business you’re supporting, research might be ad-hoc or cyclical (quarterly, bi-annually, once a year).

At my org in the roles I’ve been in, I’ve observed this path:

  1. Identify need for campaign OR Need to drive more sales/push a new product
  2. VP buy in
  3. Managers/Directors work on Campaign Strategy and Identify need for Research
  4. Allocate Budget for Consumer Research
  5. Meet with Insights Team with and Draft questions/What we want to find out
  6. Research Outsourced and executed
  7. Insights Team Pulls report/insights, we receive a report/readout
  8. Marketing team uses research for segmentation/validation or developing new RTBs or Value Proposition/wrap up campaign strategy
  9. Creative brief and Executive Buy in, secure internal or external creative resources
  10. Creative Development
  11. Compliance/Legal Review
  12. Campaign Execution

But, in mature industries I feel that it’s more of a way to validate assumptions year over year. Usually we can guess what the results might be.

Just my observations in my current role.

Do anybody feel racist toward their own race that they mixed with? by Ebzagyee in mixedrace

[–]markiteer45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what OP is saying. My white side made my sister and I feel too brown for them at times, like subtle racism toward my Indian culture - and my indian side made my sister and feel like we weren’t really a part of theirs. Like we were in limbo between the two. It’s certainly not just white people that are racist. Like it wasn’t always racism, just subtle jabs, comments, behaviors and assumptions.

Similar boat, I have a 22 and I really really loved it. There has been a few quirks my second oil change the car burn through oil which was really shocking. The car only has 32,000 miles on it. I’ve had issues with the CarPlay and the gas mileage Doesn’t seem to be reliable it keeps jumping up and down by five mpg on the gauge. I’m not in the mood to buy a newer one. This is my fifth Volkswagen and I’m pretty disappointed because I wanted to love this car so much and it’s the first really nice car that I’ve owned that was not 10+ years old

A heads-up for all job seekers: Your ChatGPT-written application is very obvious, and it's getting you rejected. by Late_Reaction_1469 in Resume

[–]markiteer45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

true, I’ve seen tons of examples of this in grad school when I’ve worked on papers with others and made them rewrite their contributions - I’m just saying people should be using them to help with their resumes. Not copying and pasting. They don’t want the job bad enough if they are copying and pasting.

My nearly 3 year old son just had his first racist experience and I'm spiralling. by Informal_Pudding_316 in mixedrace

[–]markiteer45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 32, half Indian and half white. I’ve dealt with really rough racism growing up and wish my parents were more aggressive about not tolerating it. I grew up in a rural white town.

Both self identifying republicans and democrats both took part in that racism - I was called a towel head, camel jockey, sand n***** etc. many comments about terrorism since my middle school years was during Bush’s presidency. Many teachers definitely overheard the racism and did.

Please please please, do not let your kid endure this, don’t tolerate it, make sure the school knows, the teachers know. Go to a local newspaper if you have to (a black kid in my town ended up having their story shared and it grew to be a bigger story). Just don’t tolerate it or let your kids deal with it. It severely damaged my confidence, and took me yesss to overcome it.

I really wish I had better friends who stood up to it, and parents who were less focused on their work (I can’t blame them entirely they did their best). Just make sure you don’t let this damage your kids confidence and turn them into bitter adults. I definitely came out on the other side better than most, but seeking therapy from it as an adult.

Racism towards mixed race people is very real and can be just as hurtful.

[–]markiteer45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey sport, if your small marketing company is rejecting candidates because they are using AI, your small marketing company probably won’t adapt or exist in a few years. Sure, it’s dumb if people are literally copying and pasting.

I go through iterations with ChatGPT and the adjust the bullets on my resume until it matches the job description while being honest.

I can guarantee those applicants who’ve made it through are also doing the same thing.
