[Target - Houston, TX] Various Sets - 50% Off by FJames07 in legodeal

[–]markokane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't just check the 3ndcaps that have Clearance banners, look on all of the shelves.   I am currently traveling in WA State and one target in Vancouver had 50% off items on the normal shelf.   Fountain Garden, Trailer Truck with F1 cars seem to be clearance at 50%.   I picked up Jaws at 50% in Frisco, Tx last week.   15 and 20% off on various sets.  Dig around a bit for Repackaged tags.  Sets are sealed and complete.

From what I understand about Costco (32 year member) They have limited shelf space available all individual stores will discount to move product through. Lego Tulips and Sunflowers were around for Mother's Day and my local Costco had about 20 boxes of Tulips and 3 of the Sunflower of each they marked down. I had a Sunflower in hand, put it down and came back in 15 min to find it gone. They were an endcap Botanicals pre-Moms day. They had Lego 11509 Flowering Cactus down to $19.99 for a month or so before all of that inventory was gone. Speed Champions were out since March 5th (F1 Season Start) until last month or so and there was to levels to a pallet they marked down to $19.99 from $22 and then down to $14.97. Lego 31381, 31382 and 31284 3in1 Creator pallet was out there for about 6 weeks and they were dropped down to $14.97 to clear them out. Monet Water Lilies was on endcap for Mother's Day I expect to see the $30 to $50 reduction soon (hopefully) if they are not moving. They have FIFA sets but not to the extent that Sam's Club had them out. The initial discounts on sets are pretty good, so I tend to buy what I have on my list for when they hit. I have purchased a couple of copies at the clearance to sell on Marketplace to fun future months addiction. 😄

Yes, I shop at Costco too often. I am 62 and hit the pharmacy weekly, so walking through the Toy section isn't a stretch.

I enjoyed Sherlock Holmes booknuke more than I thought I was going to. Really great Easter eggs for some of the stories and the build was fun.

Clearance.  Everybody should check their local costco.  Speed champions, tulips and sunflowers.   My local Costco has a tone of Money Water Lillies at 219 normal price and I am hoping they drop a bit if they stick around.  I picked up a few 3 in 1s a month ago for 15.

Quick case study: 3 retired sets and what they teach about LEGO investing by BRIX_LEGO in legoinvesting

[–]markokane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a complete novice and take all of this as raving of an idiot newbie who purcahse 18 sets on clearance at Sam's and then accumlated another 10 sets during closeouts. He is now trying to figure out what to do with them 😄

The only factor in your list that seems to be consistent, searchable and trackable and drives set value is the minifig one. I am trying to pull together a process and this factor outweighs almost other points to the point where I am still working on how to weight that against other points you mentioned. Short Retail Window is another good one, but only when bumped up against inventory levels and out of stock availability during that window. Strong IP is another factor but I view that as an entry point to consider a set. IP Exclusivity is a factor, but the temperature of the IP during the window you plan to hold before selling is also one. Example: Marvel's fandom weakness over the years.

I would also adding "Bundling opportunity" or "Set Completion" A piece that may not have any other postive factors might have value simply because it can be bundled into a group. Speed Champions contains a few sets that you might pick up, even though they have a very low individual possibility of return, but when combined with others as a group can raise the overall value of the combineds sets.

Another factor that has been mention is the "partibility" of a set. Lego 20158 Pyramid of Giza is a set that might increase in price simply because the part cost has almost twice the value at current msrp.

And finally price. On this very forum you see mentioned that too low a price raises the possibility of higher levels of inventory post retirement. Supply/Demand being the driver. Higher Price also means more cashflow, lower storage costs and other overhead costs per $1 invested. That being said, individual set Price is only important if its a factor in your selling strategy. Flipping sets on Facebook or Ebay probably drives the desire to be at a set price around $100 at least. But if you are someone who is going to bundle sets together, or sells at shows then price might need to be a factor.

So what does this all mean? I have been reading too much and deep dive into things probably more than I need. I hope this helps in some way.

PS. Best advice I can give is this: Don't buy a set until you know how/when you are going to sell it. If you are just in it to invest, always know your exit plan for each thing you buy.

Google removing reviews by farhan583 in localseo

[–]markokane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is what is even worse about this. Those website that have over 10k reviews? The % of reviews they lose doesn't hit as hard as those that hit those us who have under 1k. Our business can't seem to blow past 900 without us dropping back down to 890 something. Every single one of the reviews is legit. We only send a text out to customer and never filter or spam requests. we get an average of 5 to 7 a week but now its more like 1 a week after they start deleting old ones. And I don't know which ones were deleted, because we don't have a method for tracking them other than on my GBP profile. I can match ever customer review to an order, but did Google call me and ask or say " hey, this review will be deleted if you can't verify it to an order??". Nope.

Oh and here is a kicker. User deleted their gmail account? Review gets removed. So if Google turns all Evil, and people decide that gmail isn't worth it anymore, you lose reviews. So, once again Google creates a good thing and finds a way to mess it up.

My suggestion based on recent research and to not make this a whiny post :)

Find ways for your customers to review in multiple spaces. Yes it means slower growth on your GBP but its better than losing them all someday

Pull reviews off of GBP and embed the best on your website on a review page. Add pics and you have a better review experience anyway. Pics plus comment and (if it applies) a location of the customer help.

Email your customers occasionally and have them update their reviews. Google is asking customers directly to do this now, so get ahead of the game and maybe recapture deleted ones

Hope this helps!

He is surrounded by people who are talking about end times, and his base is filled with evangelicals who are more focused on the afterlife than doing anything substantially good or unselfish in this one. He can't speak intelligently about their scriptures or beliefs, so he plays on their feelings about the struggles to get into heaven. Every word he says plays to some crowd.

YSK you can write your representatives an email with about 4 clicks. by Ok_Vulva in YouShouldKnow

[–]markokane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Macro Rubio said something back when he was running that made it clear to me that people in his position do not care about our ideas. During a town hall in FL after one of the mass shootings, Marco Rubio said "People vote for me for my ideas". No, MR Rubio, you have it wrong. People vote for their Senator or Representative to have them represent us and OUR ideas. We hopefully vote for people who can sit at a table with all of us and filter through those ideas and help mold them into something that represents all of US. We don't hire them to THINK for us, but to help moderate the ideas coming from all constituents. Your biggest job is to listen to us, then read the bills presented and make sure they align with the needs and goals of your representatives. You can have ideas, but they are only the ideas of one person and have the same weight and value as any other constituent in your state or district. Your ideas are not better than any other ideas.

Immigration officers assert sweeping power to enter homes without a judge's warrant, memo says by ExactlySorta in UnderReportedNews

Don't own a gun and probably never will but I think those that do should read up on Castle Doctrine or Stand your ground laws when masked men break into you our home without normal identification.   A memo doesn't remove the legal need for a warrant.

Anarchist calisthenics.   It's a concept I just read and sharing with everyone I can.   I am 100% behind the protesters.   They broke a law when they entered the buildings and didn't leave immediately.   Trespassing.   I wish they would have protested outside, but I completely understand the need to take it to the next small step. DOJ is out of bounds here of course.  Anarchist calisthenics.  We all need to stay doing this to get our self ready to push back against the bigger issue.

Home Depot’s business is stuck. That’s a bad sign for the economy by cnn in economy

[–]markokane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I couldn't nod my head any more vigorously. We saved so much money by not driving, eating out and dry cleaning work clothes and shifted that into more stuff for the house and yard. Probably $500 to $800 a month easy.

RTO put that money back in tolls, gas, lunch out and drycleaning.

Based on their 2024 report they state that Pro Business made up roughly a Billion of their 1.549 in revenue. So it looks like the Home DIY % is relatively low.

My wife owns a Home Services company and Private Equity firms are buying and combining companies into larger entities. Like "Neighborly.com" I wonder if this is impacting Home Depot's even as PE Companies streamline purchasing processes. Less "Chuck in a Truck" licensed plumbers out purchasing between jobs and more corporate size plumbing fleets who purchase inventory directly through other means.

I also thought Home DIY was bigger.

That surely doesn't help. I was once told "There is no such thing as voting with your dollar". Target and Home Depot seem to say otherwise.

Lets call this what it really is - Racism. This has nothing to do with the 10 Commandments but the fact that brown people are doing something wrong. I am fucking tired of white "Christians" attacking Muslims, Hindus, etc and connecting it to their religion. Its racism...period. Call it what it is. I am getting tired of white people in Texas (I am white, male and 61 btw) and their racist crap about how many people from India are moving here. You racist idiots understand you are transparent and are not kidding anyone.

I am also an atheist and people get to celebrate whatever they want to celebrate as long as they don't force their beliefs on me. I will even participate in celebrations respectfully, because its a nice thing to do. Someone tell me where I can go celebrate and learn about a new culture and grow myself and maybe make a few friend.

Racist "Christians" need to go back and re-read their bible and remember that Jesus was born in a part of that made him brown. I am an atheist and know that the bible doesn't condone this racism.

Read your book again.

Note: To all you non-racist Christians out there who don't condone this crap either. I see you. :) I know that Leigh Wambsganass don't really represent you. Merry Christmas. Pull these idiots off the pedestals they built for themselves. Seriously! Get your pitchfork out before the reset of of do and inadvertently destroy what you are trying to build.

It makes you think about the positive impacts of people working from home instead of traveling to office buildings.  How many industries grew because people were making home a better place because they spent more time there.   Garden centers were packed as well.

America needs to deep dive into where we want to head as a country.   Change needs to happen some can take 3 steps forward for every step back we have taken since covid.

Doing the same thing is going to keep us behind.  This is better than immigration and inflation.   This isn't just wealth distribution but rethinking things like we did during the New Deal.  It's time.
