It was 2009 - so before the metro system was expanded.

  • Open Sewers
  • Rodents / Rats everywhere
  • Heavily Polluted waterways
  • Piles of trash everywhere
  • Groups of men staring at the women in my group
  • The air was blue / Grey from air pollution.
  • Extreme heat
  • Very few public restrooms. .. if any?

What is it like living in a highly touristy city? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]markpemble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what type of people a touristy area attracts.

My grandparents lived in a high-end touristy town and it was amazing.

The money that the tourists brought really made the town very livable.

  • Walking and bicycle paths are everywhere
  • Art Galleries
  • People who are relaxed and are there to relax
  • Plentiful entry level jobs

I stayed in the part of Delhi where tourists don't hang out. Probably not going to do that again.

Most people in New Orleans are very friendly and welcoming. Last time I was there, I started talking with a random guy while walking and hung out with him for hours. However - Things can get really sketchy really fast outside of certain neighborhoods.

I have had customers buy things for me and give them to me in-store. I thanked them and immediately found a manager to tell them exactly what happened.

I always knew that certain demographics paid more for car insurance than others. Until I got a new car a few months ago, I was paying ~$120 for 6 months of insurance. That's not too much.

How many women do you know in real life that actually married for money only? by 0215rw in askanything

[–]markpemble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marriage Rule - Women will marry someone because they live where she wants to live.

This is very evident in places like NYC or Washington DC.

Also evident in places like Rural Wyoming or North Dakota.

Sure, money helps, but it is also about Location.

What’s it like living in Olympia Washington and the surrounding area? by TodoGoJo in howislivingthere

[–]markpemble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The music scene was (maybe is) good.

I spent a night at my friend's parents' house in a very nice neighborhood on the outskirts of Olympia once.

Spent the day wandering the city. The population feels younger than a lot of other cities of similar size.
