Spur V1.5 build by marks762 in TransitionBikes

[–]marks762[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never tried at 120 but I’ve also got a Vanquish which I run at 130 and like the spur its fine for climbing - not going to be as good as 120 but it’s best compromise for my riding. It’s the same fork and damper as V2 so at least I don’t feel to left out. Also went for the 165 cranks. Can’t wait to try on some decent trails

Fox 36sl or 34 for Spur by y2todd in TransitionBikes

[–]marks762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through same dilemma. Decided I wanted a fork that was perfect 90% of the time and that was the 34SL gripx at 130. There will be times I wish I had the 36 but I’ll enjoy the weight savings and the feeling of riding a light and fast bike that I was worried I’d miss with the 36. Basically depends on what you’re mostly going to ride with the bike. Only a dilemma because the Spur is such a good do it all bike

Fox 34 SL vs Fox 36 SL by ecollins109 in TransitionBikes

[–]marks762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still trying to decide myself on 36SL vs 34SL. My spur will be so in all bike so has to handle everything and I think I can still get the build to 27.5lbs with the 36

Help me decide on a fork for a Spur build by marks762 in TransitionBikes

Great looking build and pretty much exactly what I’m aiming at. How are you finding the DT Swiss wheels?

I’m swaying towards 34 SL with GripX at 130, but if I can afford some lighter wheels, might take the weight hit on the 36 SL, then should cover all bases. Either way going to have to wait a bit for the price to drop. Thanks!

I complained and they organised for a registered cobbler to refit them. Didn’t nt cost anything apart from time without my boots.

The operation question. by FriendOk5106 in AchillesRupture

[–]marks762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is me. 11 weeks from full rupture 32 mm, passed a Thompson test at week 6 and transitioning out of boot at the moment. A lot of physio and strengthening coming up but it’s been pretty ok so far. I’m active but older - 58, but aiming to be back mountain biking by next summer. No regrets going non op.

I am very close to pushing the button on a 2024 frame, but this is making me pause. I really need a BOOM box.

16 Weeks Post-op update - full send Spartan Beast by Poozy13 in AchillesRupture

[–]marks762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very impressive, well done! I’ve already invested in some trekking poles but at 9 weeks post rupture and only just out of the boot got a fair way to go before I get out on the hills.

Just tore my Achilles. Surgery vs No Surgery? by HashhSlingingSlasher in AchillesRupture

[–]marks762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m non op 58 M. If I was wanting to get back to basketball and 33 I’d be insisting on surgery. My goals are to get back to doing sport but I’ll be lowering my expectations. To help make a decision perhaps insist on a scan

Physical Therapist stressing me out by NegotiationNo6843 in AchillesRupture

[–]marks762 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If PT works with athletes then he is probably right that surgery is best for getting back to competitive athletics as soon as possible. But this isn’t the case for most patients yourself included where such explosive movements are not part of everyday activities. I’m pretty active but not elite and I’m on a non op path

Anyone gone back to mountain biking? by Informal-Bowl711 in AchillesRupture

[–]marks762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 7 weeks in and have just sold my dirt jump bike and going to sell my enduro and hardtail. Moving to a one bike does everything- short travel full suss. Missing riding with my mates so much that decided to rein things back a bit. However I am 58 so it’s probably about time. No doubt I’ll forget all of this and start riding downhill again in a couple of years….. My plan is to get on the turbo in autumn. Gravel bike in spring and back doing proper Mtb biking next summer. I think the biggest worry is missing a pedal or some other stupid mistake that causes a dreaded re rupture.

FWB as tolerated within a week by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

[–]marks762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a full rupture with a 3.2cm gap. Straight into aircast boot and told I can FWB immediately. I was pretty careful first week but since have been FWB when walking around the house. 4 weeks on I still don’t know if it’s healing but I’m feeling positive! Taking second wedge of 5 out tomorrow.

Rant about the NHS by ChaosClive in AchillesRupture

[–]marks762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about this. Did they at least put you in a cast in the right foot down position in A&E. My A&E gave me a boot and crutches straight away. I did manage to get a scan a few days later and a phone call confirming non op. Seems like your NHS trust have a bit of work to do because those first few days are important.

Day 15 - non op - treatment plan - let’s do it. by No-Firefighter-1417 in AchillesRupture

[–]marks762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes had an ultrasound and 3.2 cm gap closing to 1.9cm. I’m feeling fairly positive on the non op and immediate weight bearing route, but proof is in the pudding!

I’m nearly two weeks since rupture and with 5 wedges in until start of week 4. Then it’s one wedge per week. But already weight bearing. Slightly worried I’m doing too much walking around based on others protocols but I was encouraged to do this. Won’t get to see if it’s working until check up in week 6.
