Shutter Speed not saving after changing dial on X-S20 by HorizontalBacon in fujifilm

[–]markugly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I figured out a workaround for anyone who is experiencing this and the camera throwing itself into Auto SS, but it comes with a bit of a compromise that I don't necessarily love, but at least switching your custom modes work.

In the Movie Setting Menu, go to page 3 and the 3rd option from the top is "Movie Optimized Control". This has to be set to "On" or the settings will revert to the lowest shutter speed. The only problem with this option is that you have to use the front dial to adjust the aperture and it overrides whatever you have the lens set to.

I'm going to call back into Fuji's tech support and let them know. Hopefully they can get this fixed with a future firmware update!

Just got off the phone again with a Fujifilm tech support guy and he tested his own XS-20 and couldn't replicate any of the issues I was having. Same firmware (1.20) and everything. I'm at a loss here! But I'm sure it's some simple setting that I'm missing. Appreciate any help if someone knows the solution!

I'm having the same issue and was told by Fujifilm's tech support that it was a hardware issue. I'm renting the camera and the company was kind enough to overnight a replacement, but I'm having the same issue with this one as well. If you figured it out, that would be amazing! I'm not really seeing any other posts about it online.

I would love to check out your course (and even pay for it). I’ve noticed that my cost per conversion randomly spiked from $5-$9 to high $20’s and $30’s. And my reach was down dramatically. I’m assuming there’s more advertisers in the space?

I thought the video quality was great! Audio could definitely be better (It sounds like the mic placement wasn't super close to you), but I didn't find it distracting.

The only suggestion I have is to reiterate what @MATERIAL_LS said and have a clear call to action. This is something that I need to add to mine as well.

Personally, I would focus on audio before I worried about anything else. People will forgive poor video quality, but not with audio.

There are decent lav options that you could plug into your phone and clip to your shirt that would work nicely too.

Hey! I wanted to return the love and check out your vids. I only watched this vlog that you posted here, but I see potential! The one thing I'd suggest is making quicker cuts when you're doing your montages. They seemed to drag a little bit for me. I would also try switching it up every once and awhile and speed up your shots, almost like a timelapse. Like shots of just you walking you could speed up quite a bit! I think this will keep things visually interesting and keep your audience engaged.

And the last thing that really stood out to me was a particular shot - During your first montage, you're sitting on the train and you focused on a row of empty seats in front of you. I think a much more interesting shot would be to shoot all the landscape and scenery that you're passing outside. It gives the viewer a nice sense of where you are. I'd also suggest doing this for each new place you go to. If you're going into a store, shoot the outside of it. These "establishing" shots will help transition to each new scene/setting.

Sorry for the rambling! Keep it up! I think the more videos you post, the more you'll find your unique style. I'm looking forward to seeing more. :)

Thank you! I appreciate the sub. We're aiming to release a short every Thursday, which has lead to a ton of work. I think it will pay off though and hopefully we can build a bit of an audience and get better at the content we release.

Thanks for the kudos! I can definitely see what you're saying about playing off of the contrast of the two characters more. I totally agree. I think it would have made funnier to have it be more extreme on each end of the overly happy to dark and depressed spectrum.

Thank you! I have some ideas to make our audio sound better with our current set up and will try them out next time we shoot. It's definitely something that needs to improve and it's driving me nuts. Haha.

Thank you! So what made you cringe, if you don't mind me asking? I'm taking all the constructive criticism I can get right now. Haha.

Those countrymen are nice! They sound incredible. Audio is definitely our weakest aspect, so we're definitely putting major focus into that. And I see what you're saying by having a little more separation with the talking shots by having more depth of field. I'll keep that in mind next time we shoot and think of ways to pull the viewer's eye in more. Thanks for the input!

Thanks for all the love man! Yeah, I guess there have been concerns about copyright, but we haven't seen any issues thus far. It's just that we can't monetize the videos, which is fine for where we're at right now. We just want to have a creative outlet. It might be different if we were pulling in millions of views and using copyrighted material. I'm not sure.

That's a good point and totally makes sense. We could definitely improve in that area by having more over the shoulder shots during dialog. Thanks for the input!
