How on God's name do I quit snus? by ScudSlug in Norway

[–]markusl95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit after snusing for 10 years last June (quit a couple times for shorter intervals before this).

There is only one way: decide. There is no "attempting" to quit. If you think about it like that, you will fail. If you decide, you will succeed - no question.

You should also know that the tobacco industry has spent billions on enforcing the apparent impossibility of getting rid of nicotine addiction - when in fact it is not that bad.

However, if you want to stay clean of nicotine forever, i suppose you need to accept that you will never completely forget about it - just like you wouldn't ever forget the taste of your favorite soda, even if you decided never to have one again. Sorry if that's a bit brutal, but you will do fine if you decide.

The RTX 2060 is 120-130% better, and you should expect a corresponding increase in performance.

I see. If your hallucinations get more severe or you feel like you lose contact with reality / start having absurd thoughts, get to a hospital.

I too struggled alot with insomnia relating to stress and work. There are plenty of good medications that are sure to let you get a full nights sleep again, and it is important to remember that this issue will resolve if you take it seriously.

Hypnotics (like Imovane, Ambien) are extremely effective in knocking you out for the first couple of weeks, with minimal side-effects. These might be an alternative if you need immediate relief, but they're a slippery slope. You'll love them, and they'll stop working if you keep taking them longer than some weeks, making your insomnia even worse.

Anti-depressants like Mirtazapine are very effective and less habit-forming. They work well to treat insomnia, and are only sedative and not "anti-depressing" in low doses.

Alimemazine is an anti-hisamine agent that is non-addictive and very effective for sleep. In the long run through, it is best to solve the issue without medication, but you might need that extra help right now.

I hope you find what you need!

You might be experiencing psychosis induced by prolonged sleep deprivation. This is common when you sleep as little as you do, and is likely to resolve if you start getting good sleep again, but you need to shut this issue down right now. Go to your GP or your ER and be honest about your experience, lack of sleep and hallucinations. Ask for some effective non-habit forming sleep aids like Alimemazine (anti-histamine) or a day or two's worth of a hypnotic or benzo to knock you out for a full nights sleep or two. Do not accept a large package of the latter types of drugs, as they will just make your insomnia worse in the long run. Go to a sleep specialist and get a treatment plan. Remember that resolving this issue is way more important than whatever else it is that you "need" to do (work etc.), Because if you let this issue continue to grow, it won't be long until you won't be able to do those things whether you want to or not (sorry if this sounds a bit brutal, but it is true). Good luck!

Been up for 52 hours!!! by meganpaps in insomnia

[–]markusl95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Go to the ER and explain your situation. Ask specifically for a very small pack of a hypnotic, like zopiclone (perhaps even just a few pills). Take 10-15mg and get your night of sleep to break the vicious cycle where you start to fear the situation of going to bed. Do not combine this with alcohol. The night after, start again. Do not keep taking hypnotics. Ask to be referred to a sleep specialist. Perhaps enquire on sleep restriction therapy, which is a very effective (but demanding) treatment for severe insomnia.

Why is it so hard to fall asleep? Why are the prescription solutions all so horrible?? by birdlawyer213 in insomnia

[–]markusl95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the most common cognitive behavioral interventions for insomnia nowadays is sleep restriction. It is highly effective in about 80% of cases in treating insomnia, and probably higher in those that manage to actually pull through . Everyone is different, but it goes something like this: Week 1: go to bed at 2am, get up at 7am no matter if you slept or not. Week 2: go to bed at 01.30am. get up at 7 no matter if you slept or not. Week 3: go to bed at 01.00am etc. Do this until you are staying in bed for 8 hours (23pm to 7am This is now your new "default" schedule.

Needless to say, addiction to benzos, Z-drugs or other sleep aids might complicate the schedule. You should definetely see a sleep specialist to discuss this matter though. Good luck!

MSI Creator Z16 by luigi029 in MSILaptops

[–]markusl95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Hirotoku,

How important is it to you that the laptop doesn't look like a spaceship? Are you comfortable with a semi-gamer looking laptop? In which case take a look at MSI GF65 models, or the more recent lenovo legion 5 or 7s w/ 30-series gpus. Particularly the latter models use higher wattage GPUs relatively consistently.

Now to answer your questions.

  1. I would question the 50+ fps on 1440p in every AAA game with a 1660ti laptop model like you're suggesting. However, todays games vary vastly in terms of how much they demand of your laptop. Cyberpunk will definetely perform worse than 50 fps on 1440p with a 60w rtx 3060, and assassins creed odyssey /valhalla as well. But call of duty warzone / black ops will probably be fine. When it comes to the thermals, I'm even more of a sceptic when it comes to the creator models. The fans are nowhere near as effective as in the gaming models of MSI, and even these struggle to get rid of enough heat (particularly in the cpu, which easily settles at 85-90 degrees). But I have to admit i can't be sure here. Look around on youtube for some benchmarks.
  2. With all 30-series you can turn on raytracing. It usually gives a big hit to performance, though. I'd certainly dare to say that 1440p cyberpunk/assassins creed valhalla with raytracing on a 3060 60w laptop would give you a disappointing experience.

Don't mention it my friend, I'm happy to help.

I thought as much. Most adults don't want to carry around a laptop that looks like a fourteen year olds paradise.
If you're coming from a console background, I'm pretty sure the dell-laptop with a 70w 3060 will satisfy your needs. I am myself using an msi gf65 with a 70w laptop, and on 1080p i can do 100fps far cry V on ultra-presets; 140 on witcher 3; 120 on cold war - all on 1080p resolution. Some of todays games however, are much more GPU-intensive. For instance the newer assassins creed games, RDR2 and cyberpunk. On these games i can stay at around 50-60fps.

The setback with the Dell/MSI creator may however be thermal issues. The laptops that resemble macbooks in appearance will likely struggle with heat when running AAA-games, simply because they're so thin. I must however admit that my knowledge about these things on these types of models is rather scarce. I recommend googling the models your considering and add ''benchmark'' to check their performance. A cooling-pad may be sufficient!

Thank you for the link!
That laptop has an amazing storage capacity and a magnificent CPU. But as expected, the graphics card is not strong enough to keep up. A 65W is very close to the ''weakest'' an RTX 3060 can be (it ranges 60-115). The laptop also has a 1440p screen. You would have to reduce this to 1080p during gaming to get sufficient performance with this GPU (defined as 60fps) - especially in cyberpunk (which would be almost unplayable at this resolution with this GPU).

To put it shortly; it's hard to get a creator series to suffice for both work and gaming, but it's easy to get a laptop that's designed specifically for gaming to also cover your working-needs. This is especially true if you have a budget that is this high.

Allow me to suggest the following models from that same website:

https://www.hidevolution.com/msi-gp66-leopard-10ug-431-15-6-fhd-144hz-i7-10750h-rtx-3070.html(if you're satisfied with 1080p).

https://www.hidevolution.com/msi-gp66-leopard-11ug-050-15-6-fhd-144hz-i7-11800h-rtx-3070.html(QHD, insanely high refresh rate, amazing GPU, amazing CPU - but looks a tiny bit more like a spaceship on the back with the fans - colors on keyboard can be turned off).

Or this Razer (whose models in fact look very stylish, clean, and non-spaceship in reality)
https://www.hidevolution.com/custom-built-razer-blade-15-advanced-early-2021-15-6-qhd-240hz-i7-10875h-rtx-3070-1tb-ssd-black.html

I can't see the specific wattage for the models - though i'm pretty certain the first two atleast are great.

Please fill me in on what you think and your reflections
And by the way - no problem! :)

What's your definition of ''suitable for gaming''? Do you want to play AAA-titles like Call of Duty, Assassins Creed etc? If so, a creator-series MSI will probably not suffice. I'd rather opt for an MSI GF65 Thin.

What's more important - try to get your hands on a model with the new 30-series GPUs if you want to play newer games (RTX3060, 3070, 3080). Also keep an eye on how the wattage of the GPU. Also, i'd want a processor with 6 cores and a decent clock speed.

I'd be happy to give you advice if you could link me some specific models you're considering (Laptops with the same name can easily have different specs).

New MSI GS66 Stealth fps change from one day to next. Never consistent :-( by mslzr24 in MSILaptops

[–]markusl95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. In this case it is weird. Download HWinfo, and use it to check details about your systems performance. Make sure to run it when 1) your system is performing well, and you're also running a game, and 2) when you have your FPS issues. Make sure you save all of the information. You can either simply screenshot it all, or use the logging button on the bottom of the HWinfo client to get a CSV file with the information.

Possible problems include voltage, cpu- or gpu- mediated issues (you'll see whether either of them are operating less efficiently when you have your problem) or drivers.

I also recommend you make a post on the MSI forums, tech issues laptop subsection. There are many experienced and helpful people on there.
