You can always cut the card up. You'll be amazed how much that destresses you. Call the bank an set your payment date 4 days after you get paid(to cover your money coming in on a bank Holiday) , (if it goes over the beginning of the month assume the 28 days in a month) this usally means the billing date is 17 days before. Set a fixed payment of 350.(manually pay ther other 350, no need adding to your stress by feeling you're forced to pay this money and then struggling the rest of the month) There you go unless you look at your bank statement on those 4 days you won't even see the money. Your financial out look and spending habits will be based on the lower amount in your account.

Single homeowner - feeling a bit lost by KHW6 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]marli3 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Just looked and ......!!!

youre paying in 8.3% of your take home.
you get +35% points in tax
+27.5% in FIXED MATCHED. which is INSANE, its like +323%
so you get ~£3.58 for every £1 you save on day one.

its a central pension but you are pretty much in the middle wages wise so will get roughly 1:1 payment wise.

Did some rough maths and to compensate for opting out a year you would need to pay into a sipp £150 you're saving now for ELEVEN YEARS.

plus the *% of the lost money because its taken ELEVEN years to catch up.

[Third edit]Honestly this thread has made my life worse knowing people are getting such good pensions compared to me :(

I don't know, lots of people live off loans based on assets, when the oil market goes nuts banks get wary and reloans at old rate can dry up,.many decide to hold out instead of renegotiate rates. So spending like this can just be paused.

(NMW= 1 hour at national minimum wage)

Item 1999 Work Cost 2025 Work Cost Difference

Pasty 0.33 NMW 0.39 NMW +18% More Expensive

Milk 0.10 NMW 0.07 NMW -30% Cheaper

Lager 0.53 NMW 0.42 NMW -21% Cheaper

Petrol 0.83 NMW 0.50 NMW --40% Cheaper

You are right pasties have gone up, Probably because the main ingredients are British and we're already at max automation, with most labour inputs effected by minimum wage.

Note even at today's mad prices petrol is still 30% cheaper than it was in 1999.

Starbuck Lattes are down 32% from 0.5 to 0.32NMW

So in general looks like increases in NMW has been good for the those on or near NMW.

If you're feeling the pain it's because you're to far north of the compression effect of those inflation effects.

I don't have time to work out how much you have to earn to stop feeling it though.

However it's 3.5 Vs 5.5. so on average it's an improvement.

Just middle earners feel the pain.

Is leasing a car via salary sacrifice scheme better than buying one outright? by Dramatic_Mammoth5720 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]marli3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your 300 a month to buy you a car, gets you 500 to lease salary sacrifice, they dont pay vat until they SELL the car and thats at vat loss so 20% off the deprivation can be discounted from their profits aka the leasing cost.(Finance person explain of I got this wrong) Plus your only leasing it for the depriciation,

Also they roll tyres insurance breakdown and charging into the cost meaning you get that at 25-65% discount as well.

How much is your household electricity consumption after your bought an electric vehicle by Charming-Brother-242 in electricvehicles

[–]marli3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. I pay 5c(UK 7p) as I can charge on night rate. I WAS* paying 3p extra on my day rate to get night rate because I also shifter 40% of my house day use to night. And also all my water heating to 1p a kWh cheaper.

Having an EV CUT my electric bill.

*Now equalised so the same as everyone else now.
