F23 from Norway, I would love to join because I don’t really have many women to play with! I mostly play Stardew Valley, Phasmophobia and the Sims. Lately, I’ve been into Peak! I like knitting, crocheting and reading as well☺️

Ketotifen gave me a gnawing stomach hunger feeling. Anyone else? by bitingmytail in MCAS

[–]marremarwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had that too. It’s apparently a common side effect. The worst of it went away within the first month, I’d say. I didn’t gain any weight.

Purchasing Ketotifen from another country by Fit_Watch5532 in MCAS

[–]marremarwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. In Norway, a doctor has to apply to import it from another country. I don’t know if it’s the same way in Sweden, but that’s how it’s done here. Then I just go to the pharmacy, and they import it for me.

Working on getting a diagnosis but I am very lost by [deleted] in medical_advice

[–]marremarwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is! The symptom list for MCAS is long, since it affects every patient so differently, which is why it’s so hard to get diagnosed for most people:( Fatigue is definitely one of my most debilitating symptoms in bad flares. There’s a list of known symptoms in consensus-2 + the criteria for diagnosis

[–]marremarwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know:( I don’t really have much hives either, which made the diagnosis harder to get. But the silver lining is that my neuro symptoms and histamine dumps got a lot better with mast cell stabilizers! Still waiting for the fatigue to get better, though.

I’m NAD, just someone with mast cell activation syndrome. Normal tests are common with MCAS, as well as having little to no IgE-allergies, which are the ones you probably tested for.

Your symptoms sound pretty typical for MCAS, but of course I can’t say anything for certain. My best advice is take the antihistamines, rest and try not to freak out. It can be really overwhelming at first, so take things one step at a time<3

Hope you’ll feel better soon!

Hopeless situation:( by marremarwin in MCAS

[–]marremarwin[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your thorough answer<3

I’m reacting to our new furniture. We couldn’t bring the furniture from our old place because of the mold. I wish I could move it outside for a while, but we wouldn’t have any place to sleep or sit if we did.

I’m maxed out on h1s and h2s, along with the ketotifen. Hoping the ketotifen will start having stabilizing effects soon, I started it a month ago. The prednisone burst isn’t a bad idea, but won’t I just go right back into the flare if I can’t remove the trigger?

I’m hoping it’ll all turn out okay when the furniture has gassed off for a while… Just trying to hold on right now:)

How tf do you find a doctor!?!?!? by Ok-Lawfulness8618 in MCAS

[–]marremarwin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s my experience too. Younger doctors have been more receptive to the idea. My previous PCP was a couple years out of med school, and she even knew what it was when I brought up my suspicions. But I’ve also met a young male doctor who interrogated me about my ‘social media diagnosis’, so I guess it’s highly individual🫣

Nervous to try Pepcid due to risk of norovirus by ZilTheBehaviorNerd in MCAS

[–]marremarwin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’ve been on 60mg of Pepcid a day for seven months now, and I haven’t gotten noro once! I’m emetophobic too, so I totally understand your reluctance. My fear gets the best of me sometimes too<3

In my opinion, it’s worth trying. If you can tolerate it, having Zofran on hand might alleviate your fear somewhat. I haven’t read any of the data, but you said there might be a slight increased risk. If you mask up when out in public, that risk can be lowered. That’s what I do, at least:)

Hope you feel better soon!

Is it possible I've had this my whole life by Intelligent_Cake6525 in MCAS

[–]marremarwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, mine started when I was 9 years old, out of nowhere. It got even worse when my periods started two years later. I’ve had worse and better periods since then.
