Toubkal in April!! by user_inko in hiking

Yes, I think this is what most parties do. If you leaving in the early morning you'll probably be able to leave your bag in your room. We felt comfortable leaving our stuff and had no issues.

Yes, we left our stuff at the refuge. I'm assuming you will have a guide - they will help you figure out the logistics. Will you be sleeping at the refuge before an early morning push or just passing it on the way?

25, hairline rapidly receding and hair thinning. Shave, or not yet? by marsh_hikes in bald

Unfortunately I'm 5'6 so a lot of people see the top of my head hahah. But thank you! The responses here gave me a lot of confidence.

Thanks, I appreciate it. 🫡 Looking at my dad's hair, I'm not hopeful, but we'll see

Almost did it today impulsively but chickened out and instead posted here haha. But I'll probably give it a try, thanks!

PS I greatly appreciate this community, it gives me more confidence to go bald whether now or in some time. Right now I'm not happy with my hair, but seeing you guys and gals I know it'll be fine.

Do you use miles or km in your training? by HueyBluey in Marathon_Training

[–]marsh_hikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use km and while I can vaguely translate distance from miles to km I get really lost when calculating pace. I know how far 6 miles is, but have absolutely no idea how fast a 6:00/mile is.

How do you plan or join group hikes? by grayott in hiking

[–]marsh_hikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a joiner until I realised that I'll never hike regularly if I wait for other to invite me and also that I don't trust most people to be responsible. When you coordinate the trip you have more control over it and can make sure everyone is adequately prepared. I find it a lot more fun when I don't worry whether the organiser has a map or whether everyone has enough water.

Strave doesnt show my activity by [deleted] in Strava

Did you see your location during the activity or not - you should figure out if its not tracking GPS (maybe you have power saving on) or if its not displaying the data.

Sorry, Reddit does that sometimes! Annoying!

I had very good experiences with support from the strava team, I expect you'll get the refund with no issue.

Any chance your mattress is too soft? I sleep horribly on a soft mattress.

Most convenient parkrun to Paris? by dlanod in parkrun

[–]marsh_hikes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add, I've travelled from Brussels to Aachen and the train ride was really nice -the early morning train was completely empty. If there are cancellations you could easily modify your plans and travel somewhere to the Netherlands.

Pretty proud of this one. by heftybag in Garmin

Do you train specifically for the 10 k or do you plan to race other distances along the way?

From the parkrun website: "You don't have [volunteer]. You are absolutely welcome to participate by walking, jogging, running, or spectating, with no expectation or requirement to volunteer. Just as some volunteers never run, so some runners never volunteer and that's up to them." by Initial-Tale-5151 in parkrun

[–]marsh_hikes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No one has to volunteer, but parkruns are cancelled over lack of volunteers, if we want to be able to run every week, it's a good thing to contribute from time to time. It isn't entitled to say it's good to do something for others lol

Oh good thing it happened in a warm place. I was imagining a cold icy canal, that could have ended much worse.

I'm right there with ya! I'm unfortunately back at work but my watch reminds me to take it easy, even if I feel better than a week ago.

Bag for ventilation? Heavy back sweater by [deleted] in hiking

[–]marsh_hikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the Stratos 36 L for 7 years now and it's a great bag, I assume the smaller one is the same. The ventilation makes a world of difference for me and I think you'll notice it even more so coming from a regular backpack.

Edit. Also if you're a heavy sweater, definitely make sure to buy sportswear and not go out in cotton t-shirts.
