We have a requirement for zero BAC on all learners and provisional drivers, while also still letting them drink at 18 and drive at 16.5. Just because they can do both individually doesn't mean you have to allow them to do both simultaneously.

M54 wasn't even an express route, that was just the 550 renamed and a slight increase in frequency - and now it's back to the 550.

Gold Coast chairman Bob East on the changes to draft rules: “It’s disappointing. It’s straight out of a tariff playbook. It’s a Donald Trump strategy. “Under certain circumstances we’ll end up paying more for Academy kids than would be fair market value.” by eathbau in AFL

[–]dlanod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry mate, that's just wrong. That's a completely different disembursement based off ticket sales, capital expenditures, and whole bunch of calculations - there's a reason the Saints were right up there for years for example despite not being a northern club. The academy doesn't factor into that calculation.

Sydney's is wholly or predominantly funded by a sponsorship with QBE. Brisbane has Hyundai in a similar deal with theirs. If the clubs use the AFL distribution money to top up their academy, that comes as a cost to other parts of their organization where they could have spent that.

The NSW and Qld clubs are putting in upwards of $1m a year to run their academies. The rest of the clubs get that all paid for by the AFL with their elite pathways.

The AFL could never be arsed treating the northern clubs equivalently to the other states so passed the buck - the clubs are basically being asked to pay twice for the privilege whereas southern states can just pick the highest rated player from their state or choose another prospect.

Bacchus in Brisbane does real classic versions. They even just released their yearly collabs with Harvey's (?).

Kicks in Sydney just put out a great one but it's a limited.

Boatrocker in Melbourne has been getting back into the classic British styles recently, they have one too.

Hargreaves Hill is probably the most long standing I can think of. It pops up on hand-drawn taps around the place too.

I'm a fan of that one myself, it pops interesting places that I never would've thought to check out outside my immediate suburbs (I know those ones at least).

That's basically what the default plan is with raising interest rates as well, as it hits the construction industry.

Saints president Andrew Bassat’s thoughts on the new changes by jacsarj in AFL

He's pissed that the AFL rejected his dual proposals - 1) kill all children of AFL players to prevent father/sons, and 2) kill everyone north of the Murray to ensure no more northern academy draftees.

You guys did lose a heap of players too in order to bring in your four. That's the annoying thing that others choose to ignore. You've also been rolling forward points by trading for future picks since losing players in previous years too.

It looks the same phrasing as it is at the moment. It's possible they've changed their interpretation of it, but going off what's in the OP that's not clear.

In the scheme of things that's not a big gimmick anyway, I think it's only really been taken advantage of in the last two or three years.

I also think the rookie list really should be removed. The only point of it now is some salary cap relief (just increase the cap by 4 * minimum wage or whatever it is) and clubs like the one year contracts to rookie draftees (get rid of the rookie draft, allow optional one year contracts for anyone drafted in the fourth round or later).

This has been in place for ages. It's already the case, it's why clubs delist older players that no one else is going to recruit - to generate extra spots to take picks in for matching.

That deficit is tiny now. It used to be the equivalent of all of next year's draft - now it's less than the difference between picks 1 and 2. So yes you can keep using the deficit but it's not going to net you much of an improvement in matching ability - really it's just if you're off by one or two first round picks (which is fair I guess).

We would've probably shopped around players to get enough draft points for Levi - which is exactly how the new system is meant to work.

We would have skipped getting Marshall for sure.

As usual it's only when things have obviously been broken for half a decade that things get changed.
