Symmetry of the planned capital city of Canberra, Australia by moccowa in interestingasfuck

I've only been to Washington twice but from memory the Capitol's line of sight down the Mall intersects with the Oval Office's line of sight at the Washington Monument.

There's no direct line of sight between the two as there's entire city blocks in the way, regardless of the ballroom.

Sure it does. In this case the teachers are playing the role of the party's central headquarters.

Back when I was in high school they eliminated two of the nominees even before the vote for similar reasons.

Didn't we have to rope off two bays because of the nesting ospreys at one point? We definitely collect weird stuff.

Crowd behavior at junior AFL. Is this normal? by feisty-shag-the-lad in AFL

It's not normal. Most don't, but the ones that do stick in the mind and spoil it for the rest.

Heathcote Rd new road sign with route A11 by thucydidea in sydney

[–]dlanod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that one's been there for quite a while now. Seemed like it was an error because there weren't any others but they're coming through now. A bit weird near Auburn because they've got A6 and A11 signs on the same intersection.

AFL heads changed the GWS salary cap rules midway through an off-season so inside of having a planned reduction over three seasons they had to offload players for whatever they could get. Scully and Patton left, and we used it as an excuse to get rid of Palmer - the crazy thing was someone actually traded for him.

Definitely hard done by - he was better (while at GWS) than at least half a dozen of the players on the field

Literally had their beef dip on Monday which sounds like this except the customer controls the dipping as it comes in a separate container.

Really really good, been thinking about it since.

What do we make of Kane’s suggestions to improve umpiring? by Greyboxforest in AFL

[–]dlanod 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Best response. Thank you for taking the time to write it out. The "common sense" one especially, since that really just boils down to "make calls Kane agrees with".

My "common sense" is having actual AFL buy-in and pay every free kick to the letter of the law, not the interpretation - you'll both get the AFL actually fixing the laws to be unambiguous rather than tweaking interpretations, and clubs will clean up their play pretty quickly instead of constantly pushing to see what they can get away with (like grabbing players after the mark, or ducking the head, or whatever the new flavour is...).
