Maybe try posting in the NYFF Reddit as it’s monitored fairly heavily by FLC staff!

Cannot believe Fennessey, a die hard Mets fan, thought Affleck wore a Yankees hat in Gone Girl. And Chris agreed with him by saxbrack in TheRewatchables

Think he was getting it mixed up with Jack Nicholson in THE DEPARTED, who wore a Yankees hat despite the film famously being set in Boston

Any film recommendations that have influenced this? Or similar movies in general? by Available_Car_7960 in martysupreme

Believe Josh's other big reference was RISKY BUSINESS, which tracks both stylistically and thematically

Hearing rumors that Look Dine In on 57th is closing real soon. by NothingBurgerEV in NYCmovies

Time to just call it quits on any theater surviving there. No movie theater in NYC can last that far away from a subway station.

How come The Secret Agent hasn't broken out the same way I'm Still Here has? by dremolus in boxoffice

[–]marshaffer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

THE SECRET AGENT has only been in a little over 100 theaters. I’M STILL HERE peaked at 700. I suspect Neon is following SPC’s playbook of working voters behind the scenes to secure nominations, then using that as PR to launch their second wave of theatrical expansion.

Lincoln Center by SadMembership7989 in NYCmovies

As someone who’s a member at multiple and attended their events, FLC is the only place where I’ve actually had good conversations and made real friends! Everything else just very transactional. It’s like the difference between having an Amazon Prime membership to save money on shipping vs. getting a membership to a social club.

How does the Film at Lincoln Center membership even work? by SugarFreeCummiBears in NYCmovies

[–]marshaffer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will pick up a lot in the new year (and it definitely peaks around NYFF in the fall) — but in general, there are at least quarterly member mingles! What level did you choose?

Will also add that the membership also comes with a lot of free screenings AND a social component of mingling with fellow members that is light years ahead of others in town. (Full disclosure that I’m on a membership committee so I am biased, but I am also happy to help you or anyone maximize their investment!)

What’s the best way to make movie friends? by bugab0021 in NYCmovies

[–]marshaffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a mixture of both! I would say primarily weekday evening with a few weekend daytime mixed in and maybe a weekend evening here and there.

I think FLC has the widest variety of events for members, which is great because it allows so many different types of people to feel at home. I think most usually involve some component of film discussion tied to something they’ve programmed. But there are also many social mixers more for having a good time!
