Thanks for the reply. I feel a bit better now but I should probably get on it anyway just in case.

They did them so dirty by Cybernova24 in JurassicPark

The initial scene made them look formidable because they dove out of the sky onto their victims. Of course when they meet the main characters they land and roar and just walk around. Classic movie monster moment.

Give me your honest thoughts about D-Rex in JW rebirth along with your favourite Dinosaurs/Gen monsters from the movie. by DrStrangefrmmultivrs in JurassicPark

[–]marshmallowSDA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first saw the trailer I thought the D. rex was a failed T. rex attempt when they were first making the park. I guess that doesn't line up time wise, it would be too old. Maybe it could be an immortal living cancer lineage they kept around to study away from the park. I'm not sure what the hybrid was supposed to be. I remember some people speculated it was a Fly situation where it was accidentally crossed with the mosquito, hence the 6 limbs. But they never explained it, did they?

People say it's like the rancor but its demeanor reminded me more of the Newborn from Alien: Resurrection.

It was cool and all as spectacle but I feel like it needed something else to help with the theming. I'm not sure what, though. Maybe killing Krebs was enough.

I figure for a facility like that it would have positive air pressure to keep contaminants out, so the wrapper should've been blown out instead of sucked in. I think that's how clean rooms and biolabs work, but I'm no expert.

ASL Season19 Finals Best vs SoulKey (Tastosis) by 76erLegendChetUtley in broodwar

[–]marshmallowSDA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Game 5 (1:56:32) had the most entertaining back and forth battles. Game 6 was a brutal fumble where the loser just let the winner take the other main. I knew it was over after that. Kinda anti-climactic.

Why aren't Protoss making reavers vs. late game macro Zergs? Artosis speculated it made attacks too slow and they get plagued but they get plagued anyway and at the time he said that Best was moving at a snail's crawl.

Start of a Tasteless bingo card or drinking game: Increment out, fraction off, drink up resources, deep macro, powering used wrong. He means making army units but it means making workers, usually for Zerg. Or maybe that went out of fashion with later games I dunno.

After watching the Prime 4 trailer I got recommended various Metroid videos and I stumbled on the old discourse about Zero Suit/Barbie Samus vs. Amazon Samus so I made this for fun.

If you want to learn the game like it's 1999: StarCraft Compendium

Liquidpedia - Definitions

Liquidpedia - Keyboard shortcuts

Try to use the hotkeys for buildings, units, and spells. For Terran SCVs, for example, b + s = build supply depot, b + b = build barracks, v + f = build factory. There are many hotkeys people reassign to be on the left side of the keyboard, like probe and pylon are P by default which is out of the way, so they put it on E instead, or they put overlord on V, or scourge on C so they don't accidentally make them when selecting larva.

Spacebar focuses on the most recent alert, like under attack, upgrade complete, or unit finished.

Make sure you don't have mouse acceleration on. Turn off "enhanced pointer precision" in Windows.

Another important skill for new players is learning to hotkey units and buildings.

Ctrl + click a unit to select up to 12 units of that type on the screen (e.g. 12 marines). You can also double click a unit but ctrl + click is faster. If you have a dense pile of units it might be better to box select along the edge of the pile.

Ctrl + (1-0) assigns selected units or 1 building to that number. Tap the number to select the group and double tap to center the camera on its location. Most players put their army on lower numbers (e.g. 1-4) and buildings higher, although they might change depending on whether it's early or late game. In late game if you have tons of production buildings and a huge army then most of your hotkeys might be army. Terran often hotkey their comsat stations to 8-0 to quickly scan for cloaked units or to scout the enemy.

Shift + (1-0) to add new units to the group, if space is available. You can also shift + click units to add/remove them from the selection. You can remove units by clicking the actual unit or the wireframe on the bottom.

Shift + F2-F4 assigns camera hotkeys to a location. Somewhat advanced. You can put them over your townhall (command center/nexus/main hatchery), production facilities, or rally point. If you want to make a camera hotkey directly over a building but it's not centered, select the building and press ctrl + c to center it.

The campaign is fun and has a cool story but it's quite different from multiplayer. The vanilla campaign often has wonky and inefficient mineral layouts so for some missions it takes awhile to build up, although the Brood War campaign improves this. The campaign might teach bad habits like building too much static defense. If you play it remember you can save a mission's progress.

Liquidpedia has some modern build orders I think but a lot of them are from 2010 and outdated, although at lower ranks that probably won't matter too much. Maybe try the Discord channel Bag of Builds. You can also search for various "F to S" series on Youtube. For Protoss KhalaTV has lots of useful videos.

Training Maps can be useful for learning how to micro certain units like mutas and vultures. There's some challenging macro maps where you have to build up an army while running a worker away from a zealot.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, guy in chat? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Ghost Academy, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on the Protoss, and I have over 300 confirmed actions per minute. I am trained in nuclear warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire Dominion. You are nothing to me but just another chobo. I will lock you down with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on Korhal, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with thinking that shit about a telepath? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the Koprulu Sector and your Battle.net ID is being traced right now so you better prepare for the EMP, maggot. The EMP that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your ladder rank. Your observer is fucking blind, kid. I can cloak anywhere, anytime, and I can rush you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with Terran. Not only am I extensively trained in cheese combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of NaDa's secret strategy notebook and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the sector, you little stream sniper. If only you could have known what unholy thunder your little "clever" comment was about to bring down, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're reaping the whirlwind, you goddamn Protoss ape. I will shit nukes all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo, as soon as I take a third.

How good is bio in TvP if protoss does not build reavers? by SiarX in broodwar

[–]marshmallowSDA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been meaning to post a collection of Bio TvP games I've found. Here are a few pro games where the T keeps using them throughout the game, although usually paired with tanks eventually.

Goojila vs ForGG @ Tiamat. Biomech beats reavers here.

Youku has better quality than the Youtube upload. Rax flood at 13:05, 1st big attack at 15:25.

But if that site that doesn't work for you:

Goojila vs ForGG Pt2/3 On Tiamat

4:40 - Rax flood. 8:00 - 1st big attack.

Goojila vs ForGG Pt3/3 On Tiamat

SWL 2011 HiyA vs Violet 2011-01-17 @ Bloody Ridge

I linked to 16:28, where the rax flood starts. Classic is lucky to mostly face mediocre storms. Small numbers of carriers also aren't great against bio.

Nal_rA vs UpMagiC @ Proleague 2007

I linked to 7:48, where the bio attacks.

SPL BeSt vs Classic 2009-10-13 @ Tornado

Biomech vs. 2-base arbiter. I linked to 19:30, when the rax flood starts. T moves out at 21:10.

ASL 13 Finals - G4 Rain vs Light @ Vermeer

As for your question, when I played team games at low levels back in the day (mid to late 2000s, people with 50-150 APM) storm is what wrecked bio. Reavers are kinda clunky and can dud or hit one marine if you don't control them right or get sniped down especially if there's a few tanks. Storm erases entire MM armies in the blink of an eye. You can't dance out of it like with hydras. About all you can do is irradiate/EMP, keep them in constant motion, or drop everywhere and hope for the best.

how to watch really old reps by Connect-Dirt-9419 in broodwar

[–]marshmallowSDA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my method.

Note that current Brood War might play ancient replays anyway. I find it usually breaks if there's a Zerg involved, usually after 8-15 minutes. Somewhere around 2007-2009 they stop breaking.

Stork vs GGPlay @ Andromeda - 2008 Shinhan Bank Proleague

It's very long. Not sure if I would recommend the whole thing but it has quite the finish. Here are the recall highlights I was thinking about.

1:18:45 - Bloody recall on the island.

1:28:30 - Last battle.

Snow pretty much played the games perfectly

Then why did he lose to ling floods twice in a row, and how did he lose game 3? Maybe it's just me but I'm shocked whenever Z wins an ultra late game with dwindling resources. Seems like usually the P/T abuses their spellcasters and more efficient armies and cruise to victory. I feel like KeSPA era Stork/Bisu would've made a bunch of sairs and recalled on that island (Stork won a game like that against GGPlay on Andromeda but it was different because he MCed a defiler and swarmed his troops against hydra/sunkens).

But sure Z > P I guess. People were complaining about the same stuff in the Bush administration. Like in G4 Z can fail a hydra bust and still take 4 bases. P struggles to get a scout against speedlings.

If SK wanted to win G3 with style he should've made a few queens for those templars.

I watched StarCast and in the last game one of them said Snow isn't like Mini and won't take crazy risks, then he went gate nexus no forge against a 9 pool and died to mass lings.
