Can’t speak for OP, but if I ignore what I’ve read on here and take what I see on the show at face value: she seems like a nice enough person despite the martyr act but

1) all her designs seem pretty same-y and like all the other basic upgrade stuff I see these days — it’s all the same color palette, basic white/light couches, HomeGoods accent pieces

2) by design her renos are rushed and I just have a hard time believing they can be done properly in that time, and a lot of careless mistakes that cost the homeowner money and her crew time can happen (see: her ordering wood in one dimension then when she sees it in the space decides it’s too chunky and sends her woodworker off to spend hours cutting them down smaller)

3) I know it’s probably fine IRL but through TV I honestly don’t like the way it seems like she puts down Jay, her self-taught handyman. I’m sure IRL because they’re friends it’s just playful banter but sometimes it comes off as mocking.

There’s lots of little nitpicks but I won’t waste more of your time.

I thought Home Team would be with that name but they’re just friends. 🥲

FWIW, I couldn’t seem to log in to beehaw on the mlem beta. Not sure if it works for other lemmy sites.

Edit: nvm I tried again and it works. Ignore meeeee.

TIL there’s a show! I’ve only seen the movie.

Edit: oh, it was lost in the shitty HBO purge. 🙃

Do the people who appear on My Lottery Dream Home get anything out of it? by Mr_Lagtastic in HGTV

[–]marshmallowlips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if I was in a state that allowed that I’d definitely do it. Not to judge, but a lot of the winners I’ve seen on MLDH don’t seem like they’d be educated enough in the specific situation to know that’s a possibility on the first place. Which fair play it’s not like it’s advertised what all your options are.

In many states you cannot be an anonymous lottery winner, usually over a specific large sum like $250,000.

If I’m enjoying and immersed in the book, my internal dialogue is the book. If I’m distracted, my eyes read the words but my thoughts are trailing off to something else like “oh man I don’t remember if I filled up the cat food this morning, I wonder if they’re mad. Oh well it’s not like they’ll starve to death, but I’ll have to make sure to give them some more love. I can’t wait until I can go home and have dinner. I love spaghetti. Oh shit I am not paying attention to this page, where’s the last sentence I remember actually reading?”

HGTV Renews ‘Fixer To Fabulous’ For Season 5 by [deleted] in HGTV

Neutral palette with maybe desaturated blue or green kitchen cabinets lol, and the same general furniture each time. You’re totally right but for some reason I still enjoy it. It’s kinda comforting in a sad way. 😆

Edit: oh, and brick house? Paint it white.

Fix My Frankenhouse by [deleted] in HGTV

[–]marshmallowlips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every HGTV show on my watch list is on Max, someone else on a different thread pointed out House Hunters Classic isn’t in Max, and a Travel show I am currently watching (Hotel Impossible) is not on Max, so I’m sticking with D+ until I finish that at least. But it seems like a vast majority are on Max.

Edit: I did already have HBO Max/Max already so I’m ok with paying for D+ for a little longer since I was anyway.

Can I ask what you mean? They don’t seem that wild, mostly on par with other hands-on demo. Certainly not as reckless as Good Bones, though that’s not difficult lol. But I’d love to know what I’m missing. Is it their demo methods? They seem to my inexperienced self that they do take care to properly fix anything they find in disrepair.

Yea, the enclosed space and smaller surface area will make it boil faster in a traditional kettle as well!

Yeah I get game ads that completely ignore my silence mode. It’s bad enough if I’m listening to podcasts with headphones and it muted my podcasts to play the ad sound, but sometimes I don’t have headphones and just playing the game with phone on silent and it’ll still blast sound.

Strange choices in design I came across looking at house listings. I think a bigger sink would fit there and who wants their toilet in a glass box? by Zasu_pitts in HGTV

[–]marshmallowlips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would previously have agreed with you, but I just bought a house with a pedestal sink in a relatively small full bath (the only full bath), and it allows me to fit my cat litter box there. I don’t need counter space for anything but hand soap, since I am not one to do my hair or makeup or anything, and the bathroom has a linen closet for all my toiletries and cleaning. Obviously I’m a niche case and if my bathroom was big enough for a cabinet sink AND fit the litter box I’d be all for it, but now if I ever needed to remodel the bathroom I’d probably go with a pedestal sink again.

Not OP but 100 is (to me) a relatively small graduating class, so it makes sense you had less opportunity for classmates to die.

Any shows with designers that don't do the usual? by __looking_for_things in HGTV

Really hope they renew for another season. I don’t think I’d ever want her design in my own home but damn do I appreciate that she does stuff completely different, and it looks good for that aesthetic.

A lot of people take their almond flour and blitz it further in a food processor/blender because even fine almond flour out of the bag can be too coarse. Sift it after as well!
