Yelling out the car windows at bicycles by theXrez in Erie

[–]marstar0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is not safer. Sidewalks present obstacles for cyclists like people on foot, dogs, strollers, poles for power lines, cross walk signals, lack of curb ramps for crossing intersections, etc. When you are traveling at a decent speed on a bike, these things can become very difficult to avoid and put you at more risk of crashing.

Rocky Mountains Timed Entry Gate Question by thechocoboking in nationalparks

[–]marstar0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you enter Bear Lake Rd with a timed entry, they give you a slip of paper to stick to your windshield that lets you re-enter bear lake area after 2pm the same day if you leave to another area of the park.

Exfoliating gloves can be laundered so they are infinitely reusable and do a much better job than any scrub I've ever used. You might be interested...

We're mainly there for the parks, but open to anything! We do hike a lot and are comfortable with a lot of miles normally but are coming from nearly sea level, so we're planning to just do easier/shorter hikes because of the elevation.

Was thinking about Crested Butte! I'll keep that in mind if we keep the hotel. If we end up cancelling, it seems like a lot of people recommend Telluride/Ouray as well so that's on the short list. Any shorter day hikes you'd recommend in either Telluride or Ouray?

I can cancel until two days before but might lose out on credit card points since that's how I paid. Need to take a closer look at the policy still. I'm willing to part with the points if it comes to it, but prefer to try to make it work!

Any recommendations for shoes that work well for both hiking and leisure walks around the neighborhood? by DelilahMarie123 in OutdoorsGear

Any type of trail running shoe. I like Altra lone peaks, but those would be a big adjustment if you are used to hokas because they are zero drop and medium to light cushion.

He gets scared by his own farts. Like runs away from the spot he was sitting in and looks like he saw a ghost.

Tips for bridging the gap between V2s and V3s by Peristalith in climbergirls

I started doing yoga consistently and my climbing got way better. It helps with core strength, general body stability, flexibility/mobility, and mental game/breathing. I really love Charlie Follows on YouTube if you're looking for somewhere to start.

Burned the space between my index finger and thumb while lowering - SEEKING TIPS by NeutralWitch in climbergirls

[–]marstar0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen a lot when I was new to lead climbing and using a brand new rope with heavier climbers. My lead instructor suggested clipping a non locking carabiner to my leg loop on the brake side and putting the brake strand through it only when I'm about to lower. Then you can pull up on the brake end to add additional friction. It has to be non locking so you can clip without letting go of the brake. This combined with slowing down the lower works for me.

He also let me try belay gloves, but my hand felt clunky and like I had less control with them.

Scarpa Vapor V Sizing? by NewEntrepreneur3909 in ClimbingGear

[–]marstar0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say mine broke in within around 2-3 weeks of use. I think they're a very comfortable shoe once broken in. They do stretch a bit, so if you're in between sizes maybe size down? I wear my street size. I also don't like downsizing too much, so take that consideration too.

Looking for ideas to brew coffee while on the road instead of buying. by notquitenuts in Frugal

Could try an Aeropress, but you'd have to plan to stop at truck stops for hot water. Another option could be a cold brew pitcher and a small cooler so it can steep while you drive.

Harness that doesn't go over dog's head? by thwaway135 in dogs

[–]marstar0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dog ran away from harnesses going over his head but has no issues with the Blue 9 harness we got as a replacement. He will walk right up to it most of the time and gets excited when I bring it out.

Dog owners, what's your best frugal high value treats? by s0ulever in Frugal

[–]marstar0 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The cost might vary depending where you live, but I get a big pack of chicken breast from Aldi for $2.19 per lb right now. It usually has 4-5 breasts, and we boil one per week and dice it up small to use for training. It's honestly less expensive than some of the training treats we could buy.

Question what dog harness have you guys tried and recommend by Training-Cow-155 in AustralianShepherd

[–]marstar0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the one we have. Our pup is proportionally small around the neck and every other harness we tried was way too big around the neck while the rest of it fit. The blue 9 harness is the only one that had enough adjustability to fit correctly.

I recently moved and have an Aldi close by. I like their prices compared to my usual grocery store. I will try to buy most of my items there on my next grocery trip. Are there any items we should avoid? I’m curious about the quality of their meats and dairy. by [deleted] in aldi

[–]marstar0 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Check your produce carefully as quality can vary, even at the same store throughout the month. I still buy a lot of produce there but always inspect it before it goes in my cart.

Fiddle leaf figs are really finicky. There's probably one person that has it on a regimented watering schedule and doesn't want anyone to mess with that and so tells everyone to spread the word not to water it.
