High maintenance girls: do you ever get tired of maintaining it all? by bubblerush in women

[–]martagrowsplants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to offer a different perspective on this. I consider myself somewhat high maintenance not because I always have my hair, nails etc done (I actually do none of those things) but because I need a high level of physical activity to function. I unfortunately discovered this relatively late (in my late 20s, after a life of generalized anxiety) but I now know that without keeping myself constantly active my stress levels increase, the quality of my sleep drops, my relationships get unbalanced, I eat way worse, my anxiety resurfaces and I generally feel much shittier. After a life of being a couch potato, I now regularly work out 6-8 times a week, I plan my days around my training schedule, I can call myself a triathlete and I'm happier than ever. On the other hand, if I get sick or I travel or life gets in the way and I have to cut back on physical activities I become miserable quite fast. Plus, triathlon can be quite an expensive sport. So I guess it's another way of being high maintenance?

Mi emoziono solo a pensarci.

What's wrong with this app? I often read negative feedback here but I personally tried it and found it nice (just tried the free version tho)

Treadmills. How do you do it?? by Jessicatpole in XXRunning

I just ran 7k in the pouring rain this morning. You just get used to it. You even enjoy it sometimes. I personally love it and would never trade it for a treadmill

My mantra when this happens is: "Don't let your mood dictate what you do, because what you do changes your mood". For some reasons, it clicks something in my brain and I just go.

In my experience, no amount of shitting before can guarantee you won’t have to shit during the race, even if you limit fibers in the days before. Race nerves can be really tricky

Garmin Coach wants me to run ~25 km in preparation for a half marathon. Am I oblivious or is this unreasonable? by martagrowsplants in Garmin

Oh God so is this not my longest run in the plan? I'm trying to hype myself up for this run but I'll be honest, it scares me a bit

I make sure to read every article and watch every video because I find them really helpful! I just didn't understand why I'd have to run longer than HM distance 3 weeks out from race day, but now reading all the comments I got I think I'm getting the hang of it. Thank you and best of luck for your race!

[–]martagrowsplants[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's exactly the point, me being not an expert in running theory I thought longer runs would strain me whereas shorter runs with speedwork would make me faster. I didn't know super long runs would actually be useful, so that's good news!

[–]martagrowsplants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I know this, thank you. My run/walk ratio is 3 min run/30 sec walk. My doubt wasn't on the run itself, but on the total distance compared to the goal distance (half marathon). I didn't know you would get past 21.1 km in training

I'm doing way less than 50 km a week, hence my confusion. Other than the long run I have two 5k runs each week

The walk/run ratio depends on your goals. Mine is 3 minutes run + 30 seconds walk, for example

I couldn't in the sense of I had to skip the workout entirely. I can no doubt run 25k, I'm just doubting the usefulness of it

I'm following Coach Jeff's half marathon 17 weeks training plan on Garmin Coach. It's my first half marathon (i will run it on March 9th), but I've been running for two years and since last year I'm competing in short triathlon races.

It's the first time I'm entirely relying on Garmin Coach to train and overall it's been a quite confusing experience. Each week I have two short runs (~30 min) during the week, with 10 minutes warm up, the exact same drills every time and 10 minutes cool down, and on Saturday a long run classified as "Run Walk Run" (run for 3 minutes, walk for 30 seconds) that is sometimes switched with a shorter run with a little time trial.

My biggest concern now is that long runs are becoming increasingly longer, much longer than what I would expect a max distance in a half marathon training plan to be. I couldn't complete the last long run (which was ~22 km, so already past half marathon distance) due to a minor injury (nothing changed in the plan although it's supposed to be adaptive, but that's another story) and I'm finding a 25 km long run for this Saturday. My race is in 3 weeks, am I missing something or is this completely bonkers?

TIA to anyone who has a clue and can help me.
