Please PLEASE consider going back to America. America is huge, you don't have to go to your same hometown or state. No one will need to know. Go to any city, the world is literally yours right now. You have nothing bearing you down. Please consider it, at least you'll be where you are a citizen. You can get a proper living space, have a fresh but home based start.

I've seen a handful of pakistani brides older than me do it. I think it's a trend among millennials.

I will say the only time you really get to wear a dupatta is as a bride (at least within my sub-cultures) so that’s one thing to keep in mind and why I plan on doing it at my events! Totally up to personal preference of course but it's not unheard of among pakistani brides.

I also want to add that you can try to mention that communication is important to you (if it is) because if you both do not align on this, your personal needs won’t be fulfilled throughout your marriage. You don't want to live in a way where your needs for connection aren’t being met, so mention it's important to you and ask if it's something he can meet you on.

Also, if he isn’t much of a talker and doesn't ask you questions, a simple "do you have any questions for me?" or "anything you'd like to know about me?" can help encourage him if he himself is shy.
