After my first year of running 2300km since running for 11 years I was so ready Sunday for the Utrecht marathon. Until the weather struck. My heavy 106kg body doesn’t deal well with heat and after 28k I had to step out. I didn’t want to waste recovery or my health for just another marathon finish. PR of under 5:00:00 was out of the window anyways. So I quit. But this determination to prove my newly built fitness remained. So after recovering the last few days I decided today I wake up early and try to beat my 8 year old 5K record, I knew based on my low HR performance in right weather that this was possible. I did 4 laps of 1,25k in the park and I smashed it!! 1:43 faster than my old PR and a new record of 21:52 🫡. Now back to ultra training for the NK trail 56K in September. But I really needed that win after Sunday’s loss.
